تَعَرَّضَHe was exposedلِأَكْثَرَto moreمِمَّاthan whatأَنْكَرَهُhe denied

He was exposed to more than he denied.

قَالَSaidرَسُولُthe Messengerاللهِof AllahصَلَّىprayاللهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant peace

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

«"الْجَارُThe neighborقَبْلَbeforeالدَّارِthe house،,وَالرَّفِيقُand the companionقَبْلَbeforeالطَّرِيقِthe road»"

"The neighbor before the house, and the companion before the road."

وَزَعَمْتُمْAnd you claimedأَنَّthatتَسَقُّطَfalling dueالْكِرَاءِof the rentأَهْوَنُis easier،,إِذَاwhenكَانَit isشَيْئًاsomethingبَعْدَafterشَيْءٍsomething

And you claimed that the falling due of rent is easier when it is paid little by little.

وَإِنَّAnd indeedالشَّدَائِدَhardshipsإِذَاwhenوَقَعَتْthey fallجُمْلَةًall at once،,جَاءَتْthey comeغَامِرَةًoverwhelmingلِلْقُوَّةِto the strength

And indeed hardships, when they occur all at once, come overwhelming to one's strength.

فَأَمَّاBut as forإِذَاwhenتَقَطَّعَit is cut upوَتَفَرَّقَand scattered،,فَلَيْسَthen notيَكْتَرِثُhe caresلَهَاfor themإِلَّاexceptمَنْwhoeverتَفَقَّدَهَاkeeps track of themوَتَذَكَّرَهَاand remembers them

But when they are spread out and scattered, none cares about them except one who tracks and remembers them.

وَمَالُAnd the moneyالشِّرَاءِof purchaseيَخْرُجُgoes outجُمْلَةًall at once،,وَثُلْمَتُهُ1and its nickفِيinالْمَالِthe wealthوَاسِعَةٌwide،,وَطَعْنَتُهُand its stabنَافِذَةٌpenetrating

And the money for purchase goes out all at once; its notch in the wealth is wide and its wound is deep.

وَلَيْسَAnd notكُلُّeveryخَرْقٍtearيُرْقَعُis patched،,وَلَاnorكُلُّeveryخَارِجٍexitingيَرْجِعُreturns

And not every tear can be patched, nor does every departed thing return.

وَأَنَّهُAnd that heقَدْindeedأُمِنَis safeمِنَfromالْحَرَقِfireوَالْغَرَقِand drowningوَمَيْلِand leaningأُسْطُوَانٍ2of a columnوَانْقِصَافِand breakingسَهْمٍof a beamوَاسْتِرْخَاءِand weakeningأَسَاسٍof a foundationوَسُقُوطِand fallingسُتْرَةٍof a curtainوَسُوءِand badجِوَارٍneighborlinessوَحَسَدِand envyمُشَاكِلٍof a peer

And that one is safe from burning, drowning, leaning of a column, breaking of a beam, weakening of a foundation, falling of a curtain, bad neighborliness, and envy of a peer.

وَأَنَّهُAnd that heأَمَّاeitherلَاnotيَزَالُceasesفِيinبَلَاءٍaffliction،,وَإِمَّاorأَنْthatيَكُونَhe isمُتَوَقِّعًاexpectingلِبَلَاءٍfor affliction

And that he either remains in affliction or is expectant of affliction.

وَقُلْتُمْAnd you said: : إِنْifكَانَhe isتَاجِرًاa merchantفَتَصْرِيفُthen the investingثَمَنِthe priceالدَّارِof the houseفِيinوُجُوهِwaysالتِّجَارَاتِof tradeأَرْبَحُmore profitable،,وَتَحْوِيلُهُand its conversionفِيinأَصْنَافِtypesالْبِيَاعَاتِof salesأَكْيَسُ3wiser

And you said: If he is a merchant, then investing the price of the house in trade is more profitable, and converting it into various types of sales is wiser.

وَإِنْAnd ifلَمْnotيَكُنْhe isتَاجِرًاa merchant،,فَفِيمَاthen in whatوَصَفْنَاهُwe describedلَهُto himنَاهٍa deterrent،,وَفِيمَاand in whatعَدَدْنَاwe enumeratedلَهُfor himزَاجِرٌ4a restrainer

And if he is not a merchant, then in what we described to him there is a deterrent, and in what we enumerated for him there is a restrainer.

فَلَمْThen why did notتَمْنَعْكُمْprevent youحُرْمَةُthe sanctityالْمُسَاكَنَةِof cohabitationوَحَقُّand the rightالْمُجَاوَرَةِof neighborhoodوَالْحَاجَةُand the needإِلَىforالسُّكْنَىdwellingوَمُوَافَقَةُand suitabilityالْمَنْزِلِof the home،,إِنْifأَشَرْتُمْyou advisedعَلَىtoالنَّاسِthe peopleبِتَرْكِto leaveالشِّرَاءِbuying

Then why did not the sanctity of cohabitation, the right of neighborliness, the need for dwelling, and the suitability of the home prevent you, when you advised people to leave buying?

وَفِيAnd inكَسَادِthe stagnationالدُّورِof housesفَسَادٌa corruptionلِأَثْمَانِof pricesالدُّورِof houses،,وَجَرَاءَةٌand boldnessلِلْمُسْتَأْجِرِfor the tenant،,وَاسْتِحْطَاطٌ5and reductionمِنَofالْغَلَّةِthe rent،,وَخُسْرَانٌand lossفِيinأَصْلِthe capitalالْمَالِof wealth

And in the stagnation of houses there is corruption of the prices of houses, boldness of the tenant, reduction of rent, and loss in the capital of wealth.

وَزَعَمْتُمْAnd you claimedأَنَّكُمْthat youقَدْindeedأَحْسَنْتُمْdid wellإِلَيْنَاto usحِينَwhenحَثَثْتُمْyou urgedالنَّاسَthe peopleعَلَىtoالْكِرَاءِrent،,لِمَاbecauseفِيinذَلِكَthatمِنَofالرَّخَاءِcomfortوَالنَّمَاءِand growth

And you claimed that you have done well to us when you urged people to rent, because in that there is comfort and growth.

فَأَنْتُمْFor youلَمْnotتُرِيدُواyou intendedنَفْعَنَاbenefit usبِتَرْغِيبِهِمْby encouraging themفِيinالْكِرَاءِrent،,بَلْbutإِنَّمَاonlyأَرَدْتُمْyou intendedأَنْtoتَضُرُّونَاharm usبِتَزْهِيدِكُمْby your making [us] disinclinedفِيtoالشِّرَاءِbuying

For you did not intend to benefit us by making them desire rent, but rather you intended to harm us by making [us] disinclined to buying.

وَلَيْسَAnd it is notيَنْبَغِيbefittingأَنْthatيُحْكَمَone judgesعَنْon behalf ofكُلِّeveryقَوْمٍpeopleإِلَّاexceptبِسَبِيلِهِمْby their way،,وَبِالَّذِيand by whatيَغْلِبُprevailsعَلَيْهِمْover themمِنْofأَعْمَالِهِمْtheir deeds

And it is not befitting to judge any people except by their way and by what prevails over them of their deeds.

فَهَذِهِSo theseالْخِصَالُthe traitsالْمَذْمُومَةُblameworthyكُلُّهَاall of themفِيكُمْin you،,وَكُلُّهَاand all of themحُجَّةٌan argumentعَلَيْكُمْagainst you،,وَكُلُّهَاand all of them

So these blameworthy traits are all in you, and all of them are an argument against you, and all of them...
