لَاnotيَكُونُbeعَلَىonشَطْرِhalf/shareمُشَارَكَةِpartnershipالْأَصْحَابِthe companions
It should not be on a share of the partners' partnership.
[حَدِيثُ[Hadith ofأَبِيAbuالْقَمَاقِمِ]al-Qamaqim]
[Hadith of Abu al-Qamaqim]
قَالَsaidأَبُوAbuالْقَمَاقِمِ:al-Qamaqim:
Abu al-Qamaqim said:
أَوَّلُthe firstالْإِصْلَاحِof reformأَلَّاthat notيَرُدَّhe refusesمَاwhatصَارَbecameفِيinيَدِيmy handلَكَfor you
The first step of reform is not to reject what has come into my hand for you.
فَإِنْfor ifكَانَwasمَاwhatصَارَbecameفِيinيَدِيmy handلِيfor meفَهُوَthen itلِيfor me
For if what has come into my hand is for me, then it is mine.
وَإِنْand ifلَمْnotيَكُنْbeلِيfor meفَأَنَاthen Iأَحَقُّmore entitledبِهِto itمِمَّنْthan the one whoصَيَّرَهُput itفِيinيَدِيmy hand
And if it is not for me, then I am more entitled to it than the one who put it in my hand.
وَمَنْand whoeverأَخْرَجَtakes outمِنْfromيَدِهِhis handشَيْئًاsomethingإِلَىtoغَيْرِهِanotherمِنْfromغَيْرِwithoutضَرُورَةٍnecessityفَقَدْthen indeedأَبَاحَهُhe made it permissibleلِمَنْfor the one whoصَيَّرَهُmade itإِلَيْهِto him
And whoever takes something out of his hand to another without necessity, then he has made it permissible for the one to whom he transferred it.
وَتَفْرِيقُكَand your distributingإِيَّاهُitمِثْلُlikeإِبَاحَتِهِhis making it permissible
And your distributing it is like making it permissible.
وَقَالَتْand saidلَهُto himاِمْرَأَةٌ:a woman:
And a woman said to him:
وَيْحَكَwoe to youيَاOأَبَاAbuالْقَمَاقِمِal-Qamaqimإِنِّيindeed Iتَزَوَّجْتُmarriedزَوْجًاa husbandنَهَارِيًّاdaytime
Woe to you, O Abu al-Qamaqim, I have married a daytime husband.
وَالسَّاعَةُand nowوَقْتُهُhis timeوَلَيْسَتْand notعَلَيَّupon meهَيْئَةٌappearanceفَاشْتَرِso buyلِيfor meبِهَذَاwith thisالرَّغِيفِloaf of breadآسًاmyrtle
And now is his time, and I do not have an appearance. So buy for me with this loaf of bread some myrtle.
وَبِهَذَاand with thisالْفَلْسِcoinدُهْنًاoilفَإِنَّكَfor youتُؤْجَرُwill be rewarded
And with this coin, oil. For you will be rewarded.
فَعَسَىso perhapsاللهُAllahأَنْthatيُلْقِيَhe castsمَحَبَّتِيmy loveفِيinقَلْبِهِhis heart
So perhaps Allah will cast my love into his heart.
فَيَرْزُقَنِيand he will provide meعَلَىbyيَدِكَyour handشَيْئًاsomethingأَعِيشُI liveبِهِwith it
And he will provide for me by your hand something I can live with.
فَقَدْfor indeedوَاللهِby Allahسَاءَتْbecame badحَالِيmy conditionوَبَلَغَand reachedالْمَجْهُودُexhaustionمِنِّيfrom me
For by Allah, my situation has become bad, and exhaustion has reached me.
فَأَخَذَهُمَاso he took themوَجَعَلَهَاand he made itوَجْهَهُhis face
So he took them and made them his face.
فَرَأَتْهُand she saw himبَعْدَafterأَيَّامٍdaysفَقَالَتْ:and she said:
And she saw him after days, and she said:
سُبْحَانَgloryاللهِto Allahأَمَاdid notرَحِمْتَنِيyou have mercy on meمِمَّاfrom whatصَنَعْتَyou didبِي؟to me?
Glory to Allah! Did you not have mercy on me from what you did to me?
قَالَ:he said:وَيْحَكِwoe to youسَقَطَfellوَاللهِby Allahمِنِّيfrom meالْفَلْسُthe coinفَمِنَso fromالْغَمِّthe griefأَكَلْتُI ateالرَّغِيفَthe loaf
He said: Woe to you! By Allah, the coin fell from me, and out of grief I ate the loaf.
وَتَعَشَّقَand he fell in loveوَاحِدَةًwith a womanفَلَمْand notيَزَلْhe ceasedيَتْبَعُهَاfollowing herوَيَبْكِيand cryingبَيْنَin front ofيَدَيْهَاher handsحَتَّىuntilرَحِمَتْهُshe had mercy on him
And he fell in love with a woman, and he kept following her and crying in front of her until she had mercy on him.
وَكَانَتْand she wasمُكْثِرَةًwealthyوَكَانَand he wasمُقِلًّاpoor
And she was wealthy and he was poor.
فَاسْتَهْدَاهَاso he asked her for a giftهَرِيسَةًharisa (a dish)وَقَالَ:and he said:
So he asked her for harisa as a gift, and he said:
أَنْتُمْyouأَحْذَقُmore skilledبِهَاwith it
You are more skilled at it.
فَلَمَّاand whenكَانَit wasبَعْدَafterأَيَّامٍdaysتَشَهَّىhe cravedعَلَيْهَاon herرُءُوسًاheads (sheep heads)
And when it was after days, he craved heads from her.
فَلَمَّاand whenكَانَit wasبَعْدَafterقَلِيلٍa littleطَلَبَhe askedمِنْهَاfrom herحَيْسَةًhaysa (a sweet dish)
And when it was after a little while, he asked her for haysa.
فَلَمَّاand whenكَانَit wasبَعْدَafterذَلِكَthatتَشَهَّىhe cravedعَلَيْهَاon herطُفَيْشِيلَةًtufayshila (a dish)
And when it was after that, he craved tufayshila from her.
قَالَتِsaidالْمَرْأَةُ:the woman:رَأَيْتُI saw
The woman said: I saw...
