وَكَانَand he wasأَبُوAbuسَعِيدٍSa'idيَنْهَىforbidsخَادِمَهُhis servantأَنْthatتُخْرِجَshe takes outالْكُسَاحَةَthe rubbishمِنَfromالدَّارِthe house
And Abu Sa'id used to forbid his servant to take the rubbish out of the house.
وَأَمَرَهَاand he ordered herأَنْthatتَجْمَعَهَاshe collects itمِنْfromدُونِunderالسُّكَّانِthe inhabitantsوَتُلْقِيَهَاand she throws itعَلَىonكُسَاحَتِهِمْtheir rubbish
And he ordered her to collect it from under the people and throw it on their rubbish heap.
فَإِذَاand whenكَانَit wasفِيinالْحِينِthe timeبَعْدَafterالْحِينِthe timeجَلَسَhe satوَجَاءَتِand cameالْخَادِمُthe servantمَعَهَاwith herزَبِّيلٌa basket
And when from time to time he sat, the servant came with a basket.
فَعَزَلَتْthen she set asideبَيْنَbetweenيَدَيْهِhis handsمِنَfromالْكُسَاحَةِthe rubbishزَبِّيلًاa basketثُمَّthenفَتَّشَتْshe examinedوَاحِدًاoneوَاحِدًاby one
She set aside a basket of rubbish before him, then examined it one by one.
فَإِنْfor ifأَصَابَshe foundقِطَعَpiecesدَرَاهِمَof dirhamsوَصُرَّةًand a purseفِيهَاin itنَفَقَةُexpenseالدِّينَارِof the dinarأَوْorقِطْعَةَpieceحُلِيٍّof jewelry
For if she found pieces of dirhams, a purse containing spending money or a dinar, or a piece of jewelry,
فَسَبِيلُthen the wayذَلِكَof thatمَعْرُوفٌis known
the procedure for that was well known.
وَأَمَّاand as forمَاwhatوَجَدَhe foundفِيهِin itمِنَofالصُّوفِwoolفَكَانَthen it wasوَجْهُهُits purposeأَنْthatيُبَاعَit is soldإِذَاwhenاجْتَمَعَit accumulatesمِنْfromأَصْحَابِthe ownersالْبَرَّاذِof the saddle makers
As for what he found of wool, its purpose was to be sold when it gathered from the makers of saddle pads.
وَكَذَلِكَand likewiseقِطَعُpiecesالْأَكْسِيَةِof cloaksوَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنْofخِرَقِragsالثِّيَابِof clothesفَمِنْthen fromأَصْحَابِthe ownersالصِّينِيَّاتِof porcelainوَالصَّلَاحِيَّاتِand earthenware
Likewise pieces of cloaks and what was rags of clothes, they were for the sellers of porcelain and earthenware.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنْofقُشُورِpeelsالرُّمَّانِof pomegranateفَمِنَthen fromالصَّبَّاغِينَthe dyersوَالدَّبَّاغِينَand tanners
And what was of pomegranate peels, they were for the dyers and tanners.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنَofالْقَوَارِيرِglass bottlesفَمِنْthen fromأَصْحَابِthe ownersالزُّجَاجِof glass
And what was of glass bottles, they were for the glassmakers.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنْofنَوَىstonesالتَّمْرِof datesفَمِنْthen fromأَصْحَابِthe ownersالْخُشُوفِof the fodder
And what was of date stones, they were for the sellers of cattle feed.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنْofنَوَىstonesالْخَوْخِof peachفَمِنْthen fromأَصْحَابِthe ownersالْغَرْسِof planting
And what was of peach stones, they were for the planters.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنَofالْمَسَامِيرِnailsوَقِطَعِand piecesالْحَدِيدِof ironفَلِلْحَدَّادِينَthen for the blacksmiths
And what was of nails and pieces of iron, it was for the blacksmiths.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنَofالْقَرَاطِيسِpaperفَلِلطِّرَازِthen for the embroidery
And what was of paper, it was for the embroidery workshop.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasالصُّحُفُthe parchmentsفَلِرُؤُوسِthen for the headsالْجِرَارِof jars
And what was parchments, they were for the mouths of jars.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنْofقِطَعِpiecesالْخَشَبِof woodفَلِلْأَكَافِينَthen for the saddlers
And what was of pieces of wood, it was for the saddle makers.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنْofقِطَعِpiecesالْعِظَامِof bonesفَلِلْوَقُودِthen for fuel
And what was of pieces of bones, it was for fuel.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنْofقِطَعِpiecesالْخِرَقِof ragsفَلِلتَّنَانِيرِthen for the ovensالْجُدُدِnew
And what was of pieces of rags, it was for the new ovens.
وَمَاand whatكَانَwasمِنْofإِشْكَنْجٍbrick rubbleفَهُوَthen it isمَجْمُوعٌcollectedلِلْبِنَاءِfor constructionثُمَّthenيُحَرَّكُit is stirredوَيثَارُand siftedوَيُخَلَّلُand sifted againحَتَّىuntilيَجْتَمِعَit gathers
And what was of brick rubble, it is collected for construction, then it is stirred and sifted and sifted again until it gathers.
