وَرَمْلَةُAnd Ramlahكَانَتْwasرَوْجَةًa pleasureلِفَرِيقِكُمْfor your teamوَأُخْتَand sisterفَرِيقٍof a teamوَهِىَand she isمُخْزِيَةِdisgracefulالذِّكْرِ1the mention
And Ramlah was a pleasure for your team and a sister of a team, and she is disgraceful in mention ⟦1⟧.
أَبَاO fatherأَرَبٍof fourكَيْفَhowالْقَرَابَةُthe kinshipبَيْنَكُمْbetween youوَإِخْوَانُكُمْand your brothersمِنْfromلَحْمِfleshأَكْفَالِهَاof her hindquartersعَجِرُ2are swollen
O father of four, how is the kinship between you, and your brothers are swollen from the flesh of her hindquarters ⟦2⟧.
وَقَالَAnd he said
And he said:
عَدِمْتُI have lostنِسَاءًwomenبَعْدَafterرَمْلَةَRamlahفَائِدٌFa'idبَنِيO sonsفَقْعَسٍof Faq'asتَأْتِيكُمْthey come to youبِأَمَانٍwith safety
I have lost women after Ramlah, O sons of Faq'as, they come to you with safety.
وَبَاتَتْAnd she spent the nightعَرُوسًاas a brideثُمَّthenأَصْبَحَbecameلَحْمُهَاher fleshجُلًاclearفِيinقُدُورِكُمْyour potsوَجِفَانٍ3and large bowls
And she spent the night as a bride, then her flesh became clear in your pots and large bowls ⟦3⟧.
وَقَالَAnd saidالْبَرَاءُal-Bara'بْنُibnرِبْعِيٍّRub'iأَخُوbrother ofمُضَرِّسِMudarrisبْنِibnرِبْعِيٍّRub'iيُعَيِّرُtauntingصَلْتًاSaltanوَهُوَwhile he isأَخُوهُhis brotherفَقَالَand he said
And al-Bara' ibn Rub'i, the brother of Mudarris ibn Rub'i, said, taunting Saltan, who was his brother, and he said:
يَاOصَلْتُSaltإِنَّindeedمَحَلَّplaceبَيْتِكَof your houseمُنْتِنٌis foulفَارْحَلْso departفَإِنَّfor indeedالْعَوْدَthe returnغَيْرُnotصَلِيبٍsound
O Salt, indeed the place of your house is foul, so depart, for the return is not sound.
وَإِذَاAnd whenدَعَاكَcalls youإِلَىtoالْمَعَاقِلِ4the fortressesفَائِدٌFa'idفَاذْكُرْthen rememberمَكَانَplaceصِدَارِهَاof her garmentالْمَسْلُوبِthe stolen
And when Fa'id calls you to the fortresses ⟦4⟧, then remember the place of her stolen garment.
وَالْآنَAnd nowفَادْعُso callأَبَاfather ofرِجَالٍRijalإِنَّهَاindeed itشَنْعَاءُis uglyلَاحِقَةٌattachedبِأُمِّto motherحَبِيبٍHabib
And now call Abu Rijal, for it is ugly and attached to Umm Habib.
وَأَبُوAnd AbuرِجَالٍRijalهَذَاthisعَمُّهَاis her uncle
And Abu Rijal this is her uncle.
وَقَالَAnd saidفِيinذَلِكَthatمَعْرُوفٌMa'rufالدُّبَيْرِيُّal-Dubayri
And Ma'ruf al-Dubayri said in that regard:
إِذَاWhenمَاeverضِفْتَyou stay as a guestلَيْلًاat nightفَقْعَسِيًّاa Faq'asiفَلَاthen do notتُطْعِمْهُfeed himأَبَدًاeverطَعَامًاfood
When you stay as a guest at night with a Faq'asi, then never feed him food.
فَإِنَّFor indeedاللَّحْمَthe meatإِنْسَانٌis humanفَدَعْهُso leave itوَخَيْرُand the bestالزَّادِof provisionمَاwhatمَنَعَpreventsالْحَرَامَthe forbidden
For indeed the meat is human, so leave it, and the best provision is what prevents the forbidden.
وَعَيَّرَتْAnd tauntedكَلْبٌKalbوَالْقَيْنُand al-QaynبْنُibnجَسْرٍJasrبِأَكْلِwith eatingالْخُصَىtesticlesوَذَلِكَand thatبِسَبَبِbecause ofالنِّسَاءِwomenوَذَلِكَand thatأَنَّthatوَاحِدًاoneمِنْهُمْof themلَمَّاwhenأُطْعِمَwas fedخَصْيَيْهِhis two testiclesبِسَبَبِbecause ofالْعَبَثِthe playبِامْرَأَةٍwith a womanسَارَtraveledمَعَwithمَنْthose whoرَكِبُواcommittedذَلِكَthatمِنْهُfrom himفِيهِمْamong themمِثْلُlikeهَذِهِthisالسِّيرَةِbehavior
And Kalb and al-Qayn ibn Jasr were taunted for eating testicles. And that was because of women, and that is because one of them, when he was fed his own testicles due to playing with a woman, traveled with those who committed that among them in such a manner.
فَقَالَAnd saidبَعْضُsomeمَنْof those whoرَكِبَcommittedذَلِكَthat
And some of those who did that said:
أَبْلِغْConveyلَدَيْكَwith youبَنِيsons ofكَلْبٍKalbوَإِخْوَتِهِمْand their brothersكَلْبًاKalbفَلَاso do notتَجْتَرُّواyou chewبَعْدِيafter meعَلَىuponأَحَدٍanyone
Convey with you, O sons of Kalb and their brothers, Kalb, so do not chew after me upon anyone.
هَذِيTheseالْخُصَىtesticlesفَكُلُوهَاso eat themمِنْfromنُفُوسِكُمْyourselvesكَمَاasأَكَلْتُمْyou ateخَصَاكُمْyour testiclesفِيinبَنِيsons ofأَسَدٍAsad
These testicles, so eat them from yourselves as you ate your testicles among the sons of Asad.

This is an allusion to the disgrace of mentioning her.
- 2.أَيْ مِنْ لَحْمِ أَكْفَالِهَا عَجِرَتْ بُطُونُهُمْ
That is, from the flesh of her hindquarters, their bellies became swollen.
- 3.أَيْ صَارَ لَحْمُهَا فِي قُدُورِهِمْ وَجِفَانِهِمْ
That is, her flesh became in their pots and their large bowls.

Al-Ma'aqil: fortresses.
