وَأَبْصَارُهُمْ،and their sights,

وَوَقَعُواand they fellفِيintoالتَّجْسِيمِanthropomorphismوَنِسْبَةِand attributingالتَّحَيُّزِspatial limitationإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllah- سُبْحَانَه -.- He is exalted -.
And they fell into anthropomorphism and attributing spatial limitation to Allah - He is exalted -.
مَنْشَأُThe origin ofالتَّحْرِيفِdistortionوَمَظَاهِرُهُ:and its manifestations:
The origin of distortion and its manifestations:
أَمَّاAs forالتَّحْرِيفُthe distortionفَإِنَّthen indeedقِصَّتَهُits storyهِيَis thatأَنَّthatأَوْلَادَsons ofسَيِّدِنَاour masterإِسْمَاعِيلَIshmael- عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ -- upon him be peace -كَانُواwereعَلَىuponشَرِيعَةِthe law ofجَدِّهِمْtheir grandfather- إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ -- Abraham upon him be peace -حَتَّىuntilوُجِدَthere was foundفِيهِمْamong them"عَمْرُو بْنُ لُحَى""Amr ibn Luhayy"- لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ -- may Allah curse him -وَوَضَعَand he placedلَهُمُfor themالْأَصْنَامَthe idolsوَشَرَعَand legislatedلَهُمْfor themعِبَادَتَهَا،their worship,
As for the distortion, its story is that the sons of our master Ishmael - upon him be peace - were upon the law of their grandfather - Abraham upon him be peace - until "Amr ibn Luhayy" - may Allah curse him - appeared among them and placed idols for them, legislated their worship,
وَاخْتِرَاعَand the invention ofطُقُوسِthe rituals ofالْبَحِيرَةِthe Bahiraوَالسَّائِبَةِand the Sa'ibaوَالْحَامِ،and the Hami,
and the invention of the rituals of the Bahira, the Sa'iba, and the Hami,
وَالِاسْتِقْسَامَand seeking decisionبِالْأَزْلَامِby divining arrowsوَأَمْثَالَand the likes ofهَذِهِtheseمِنَofالطُّقُوسِritualsوَالْبِدَعِ،and innovations,
and seeking decision by divining arrows and the likes of these rituals and innovations,
وَقَدْand indeedكَانَthat wasذَلِكَthatقَبْلَbeforeبِعْثَةِthe mission ofالنَّبِيِّthe Prophet- صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ -- peace and blessings of Allah be upon him -بِقَرَابَةِby approximatelyثَلَاثُمِائَةِthree hundredسَنَةٍ.years.
and that was approximately three hundred years before the mission of the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him -.
وَكَانَAnd wereهَؤُلَاءِtheseالْجَهَلَةُignorant peopleيَسْتَدِلُّونَinferringبِآثَارِby the traces ofآبَائِهِمْ،their fathers,
And these ignorant people used to infer things by the traces of their fathers,
وَيَرَوْنَهَاand they saw themعِنْدَهُمْwith themحُجَّةًas an argumentقَاطِعَةً.conclusive.
and considered them to be a conclusive argument with them.
وَأَمَّاAnd as forأَحْوَالُthe states ofالْبَعْثِresurrectionوَالْحَشْرِand gatheringوَالنَّشْرِand disseminationفَإِنَّthen indeedالْأَنْبِيَاءَthe prophetsالسَّابِقِينَpreviousوَإِنْeven ifتَعَرَّضُواthey addressedلِبَيَانِهَاexplaining itفَإِنَّهُمْyet theyلَمْdid notيُبَيَّنُوهَاexplain itأَوْorلَمْdid notتَتَضَمَّنْincludeصُحُفُهُمْtheir scripturesبَيَانَهَاits explanationبِذَلِكَwith thatالتَّفْصِيلِdetailوَالْإِسْهَابِand prolixityالَّذِيwhichنَجِدُهُwe find itفِيinالْقُرْآنِthe Quranالْكَرِيمِ،Noble,
And as for the states of resurrection, gathering, and dissemination, even though previous prophets addressed explaining it, they did not explain it or their scriptures did not include its explanation with that detail and prolixity which we find in the Noble Quran,
وَلِذَلِكَand for that reasonكَانَwereالْمُشْرِكُونَthe polytheistsقَلِيلِيlittleالِاطِّلَاعِin awarenessعَلَىofتَفَاصِيلِهِمَا،their details,
and for that reason the polytheists had little awareness of the details of both,
وَيَسْتَبْعِدُونَand they deemed unlikelyوُقُوعُهُمَا.their occurrence.
and deemed their occurrence unlikely.
وَكَانُواAnd they wereبِالرَّغْمِdespiteمِنْofاعْتِرَافِهِمْtheir acknowledgmentبِنُبُوَّةِof the prophethood ofجَدِّهِمْtheir grandfatherسَيِّدِنَاour masterإِبْرَاهِيمَAbraham- عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ -- upon him be peace -وَنُبُوَّةِand the prophethood ofسَيِّدِنَاour masterإِسْمَاعِيلَIshmael- عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ -- upon him be peace -
And despite their acknowledgment of the prophethood of their grandfather our master Abraham - upon him be peace - and the prophethood of our master Ishmael - upon him be peace -
