عِيسَىJesusصَلْباً،crucified,
Jesus being crucified,
مَعَdespiteأَنَّthatالْوَاقِعَthe realityخِلَافُis contrary toذَلِكَ،that,
despite the reality being contrary to that,
وَقَدْand indeedشُبِّهَit was made to appearلَهُمْto themوَالْتَبَسَand it became confusedعَلَيْهِمُfor themالْأَمْرُ،the matter,
and it was made to appear so to them, and the matter was confused for them,
فَظَنُّواso they thoughtرَفْعَthe raising ofعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- upon himالسَّلَامُ -be peace -إِلَىtoالسَّمَاءِthe heavenقَتْلاًas a killingلَهُof himوَصَلْباً،and a crucifixion,
so they thought the raising of Jesus - peace be upon him - to heaven was a killing and crucifixion of him,
وَتَوَارَثُواand they inheritedذَلِكَthatفِيمَاamongبَيْنَهُمْthemselvesجِيلاًgenerationبَعْدَafterجِيلٍgenerationحَتَّىuntilكَشَفَrevealedالْقُرْآنُthe Quranالْكَرِيمُthe Nobleعَنْaboutشُبْهَتِهِمْtheir misconceptionوَأَزَاحَand removedالسِّتَارَthe curtainعَنِfromالْحَقِيقَةِthe truthقَائِلاً:saying:
and they passed that down among themselves generation after generation until the Noble Quran exposed their misconception and lifted the curtain on the truth, saying:
{وَمَا{And whatقَتَلُوهُthey killed himوَمَاand whatصَلَبُوهُthey crucified himوَلَكِنْbutشُبِّهَit was made to appearلَهُمْ}.to them}.
{And neither did they kill him, nor did they crucify him; but it was made to appear so to them}.
وَمَاAnd whatحُكِيَwas narratedفِيinالْإِنْجِيلِthe Gospelعَلَىuponلِسَانِthe tongue ofعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- upon himالسَّلَامُ -be peace -مِمَّاfrom whatيُشِيرُpointsإِلَىtoقَتْلِهِ،his killing,
And whatever was narrated in the Gospel on the tongue of Jesus - peace be upon him - indicating his killing,
فَإِنَّهُthen itلَيْسَis notإِلَّاexceptإِخْبَاراًa statementمِنْهُfrom himبِجَرَاءَةِabout the audacity ofالْيَهُودِthe Jewsوَإِجْرَامِهِمْand their criminalityوَإِقْدَامِهِمْand their boldnessعَلَىinقَتْلِهِ،killing him,
then it is nothing more than a statement from him regarding the audacity of the Jews, their criminality, and their boldness in attempting to kill him,
لَكِنَّbutاللَّهَGodعَصَمَهُprotected himمِنْهُمْfrom themوَخَلَّصَهُand saved himمِنْfromأَيْدِيهِمْ،their hands,
but God protected him from them and saved him from their hands,
وَمَاand whateverجَاءَcameفِيهِin itمِنْofكَلامِwords ofالْحَوَارِيِّينَthe disciplesبِهَذَاregarding thisالصَّدَدِmatterفَإِنَّهُthen itنَاشِئٌstemsعَنِfromالِاشْتِبَاهِconfusionوَالْتِبَاسِand ambiguity ofالْأَمْرِ،the matter,
and whatever words of the disciples came regarding this matter stem from confusion and ambiguity of the matter,
وَلَمْand they did notيَكُنْhaveلَهُمْfor themإِطْلَاعٌawarenessعَلَىofالرَّفْعِthe raisingالَّذِيwhichلَمْnotتَأْلَفْهُdid their minds comprehendعُقُولُهُمْtheir mindsوَلَمْand norتَسْمَعْهُdid it reachمِنْfromآذَانِهِمْ.their ears.
and they had no awareness of the raising which neither their minds were familiar with nor their ears had heard.
ضَلَالُهُمْTheir strayingفِيinحَمْلِinterpreting"فَارْقَلِيط""Paraclete"عَلَىasعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- upon himالسَّلَامُ -"be peace -"
Their straying in interpreting "Paraclete" as Jesus - peace be upon him -
وَمِنْAnd fromضَلَالَاتِهِمْtheir strayingأَيْضاًalsoأَنَّهُمْis that theyيَزْعُمُونَclaimأَنَّthatالْفَارْقَلِيطَthe Paracleteالْمَوْعُودَpromisedبِمَجِيئِهِwith his comingوَالْمُبَشَّرَand glad-tidings givenبِقُدُومِهِof his arrivalفِيinالْإِنْجِيلِ،the Gospel,
And among their deviations also is that they claim that the Paraclete, whose coming was promised and whose arrival was foretold in the Gospel,
هُوَisعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- upon himالسَّلَامُ -be peace -نَفْسُهُhimselfالَّذِيwhoجَاءَcameبَعْدَafterقَتْلِهِhis killing- حَسَبَ- according toزَعْمِهِمْ -their claim -إِلَىtoالْحَوَارِيِّينَ،the disciples,
is Jesus - peace be upon him - himself who came after his killing - according to their claim - to the disciples,
وَأَوْصَاهُمْand he instructed themبِالتَّمَسُّكِto hold fastبِالْإِنْجِيلِ،to the Gospel,
and he instructed them to hold fast to the Gospel,
وَيَزْعُمُونَand they claimأَنَّthatعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- upon himالسَّلَامُ -be peace -أَوْصَاهُمْinstructed themأَيْضاًalsoبِأَنَّthatالْمُدَّعِينَthose claimingلِلنُّبُوَّةِprophethoodسَيَكْثُرُونَ،will become many,
and they claim that Jesus - peace be upon him - also instructed them that those falsely claiming prophethood will become numerous,
فَمَنْso whoeverذَكَرَنِيmentions meوَسَمَّانِيand names meفَاقْبَلُواthen acceptكَلَامَهُ،his word,وَإِلَّاand otherwiseفَرُدُّوهُ.reject him.
so whoever mentions me and names me, accept his word, and otherwise reject him.
وَقَدْAnd indeedبَيَّنَclarifiedالْقُرْآنُthe Quranالْعَظِيمُthe Magnificentأَنَّthatبِشَارَةَthe glad tidings ofعِيسَىJesus- عَلَيْهِ- upon himالسَّلَامُ -be peace -
And the Magnificent Quran has clarified that the glad tidings of Jesus - peace be upon him -
