٢٠20-وَمِنَand fromالْمُمْتَحَنَةِAl-Mumtahanah::

20 - And from Al-Mumtahanah:

آيَةُthe verseالْمُبَادَلَةِof exchangeبَيْنَbetweenمُهُورِdowriesالْأَزْوَاجِof spouses::

The verse of exchange between the dowries of spouses:

قَوْلُهُhis saying-تَعَالَىthe Exalted-::

His saying - the Exalted -:

{فَآتُوا{so giveالَّذِينَthose whoذَهَبَتْwentأَزْوَاجُهُمْtheir wivesمِثْلَlikeمَاwhatأَنْفَقُوا}they spent}

{So give those whose wives have departed the like of what they spent}

قِيلَit was said::مَنْسُوخٌabrogatedبِآيَةِby the verseالسَّيْفِof the sword،,وَقِيلَand it was said::بِآيَةِby the verseالْغَنِيمَةِof the spoils..

it was said: abrogated by the verse of the sword, and it was said: by the verse of the spoils.

وَقِيلَand it was said::مُحْكَمٌdecisive..

And it was said: decisive.

قُلْتُI say::الْأَظْهَرُthe most apparentأَنَّهُis that itمُحْكَمٌis decisive،,

I say: The most apparent is that it is decisive,

وَلَكِنَّbutالْحُكْمَthe rulingفِيis inالْهَادِنَةِthe truceوَعِنْدَand at the time ofقُوَّةِstrength ofالْكُفَّارِthe disbelievers..

but the ruling applies during truce and at the time of the disbelievers' strength.

١٢12-وَمِنَand fromالْمُزَّمِّلِAl-Muzzammil::

12 - And from Al-Muzzammil:

آيَةُthe verseالْأَمْرِof the commandبِقِيَامِfor standingاللَّيْلِthe night::

The verse of the command for standing in prayer at night:

قَوْلُهُhis saying-تَعَالَىthe Exalted-::

His saying - the Exalted -:

{قُمِ{standاللَّيْلَthe nightإِلَّاexceptقَلِيلًا}a little}

{Stand [to pray] all night, except for a little}

مَنْسُوخٌabrogatedبِآخِرِby the end ofالسُّورَةِthe surah،,ثُمَّthenنَسَخَabrogatedالْآخِرَthe latterبِالصَّلَوَاتِby the prayersالْخَمْسِthe five..

abrogated by the end of the surah, then the latter was abrogated by the five prayers.

قُلْتُI say::دَعْوَىthe claimالنَّسْخِof abrogationبِالصَّلَوَاتِby the prayersالْخَمْسِthe fiveغَيْرُis notمُتَّجِهَةٍsoundبَلِratherالْحَقُّthe truthأَنَّis thatأَوَّلَthe beginning ofالسُّورَةِthe surahفِيis inتَأْكِيدِemphasizingالنَّدْبِthe recommendationإِلَىtowardsقِيَامِstanding in prayerاللَّيْلِat nightوَآخِرَهَاand its endنَسَخَabrogatedالتَّأْكِيدَthe emphasisإِلَىtoمُجَرَّدِmereالنَّدْبِrecommendation..

I say: The claim of abrogation by the five prayers is unfounded; rather, the truth is that the beginning of the surah emphasizes the recommendation of night prayer, and its end abrogated the emphasis to mere recommendation.

قَالَsaidالسُّيُوطِيُّAl-Suyutiمُوَافِقاًagreeingلِابْنِwith IbnالْعَرَبِيِّAl-Arabi::

Al-Suyuti said, agreeing with Ibn Al-Arabi:

فَهَذِهِso these areإِحْدَىoneوَعِشْرُونَand twentyآيَةًversesمَنْسُوخَةًabrogatedعَلَىuponخِلَافٍdisagreementفِيconcerningبَعْضِهَاsome of them،,وَلَاand it is notيَصِحُّcorrectدَعْوَىthe claimالنَّسْخِof abrogationفِيinغَيْرِهَاothers..

So these are twenty-one abrogated verses, with disagreement regarding some of them, and the claim of abrogation in others is not correct.

وَالْأَصَحُّand the most correctفِيregardingآيَةِthe verseالْاسْتِئْذَانِof seeking permissionوَالْقِسْمَةِand division،,الْإِحْكَامُis decisivenessوَعَدَمُand lack ofالنَّسْخِabrogation،,فَصَارَتْso they becameتِسْعَةًnineوَعِشْرِينَand twenty..

And the most correct regarding the verse of seeking permission and division is decisiveness and lack of abrogation, so they became twenty-nine.

قُلْتُI say::مَاwhatحَرَّرْتُهُI verifiedلَاdoes notيَتَعَيَّنُnecessitateالنَّسْخُabrogationإِلَّاexceptفِيinخَمْسِfiveآيَاتٍverses..

I say: What I have verified does not necessitate abrogation except in five verses.
