  • يَاOأَيُّهَاyouالْإِنْسَانُmankind
  • O mankind

  • إِنَّكَindeed, youكَادِحٌare toiling
  • indeed, you are toiling

  • إِلَىtowardsرَبِّكَyour Lordكَدْحًاa [certain] toiling
  • towards your Lord a [certain] toiling

    الْمَعْنَى:The meaning:يَاOبَنِيsons ofآدَمَ،Adam,

    The meaning: O sons of Adam,

    أَفْرَادُindividuals ofاللَّفْظِthe wording

    individuals of the wording

    لِأَنَّهُbecause itاسْمُis a noun ofجِنْسٍ.genus.

    because it is a noun of genus.

  • وَحَمَلَهَاAnd bore itالْإِنْسَانُmankind
  • And bore it mankind

    يَعْنِي:meaning:أَفْرَادَindividuals ofالنَّاسِ.the people.

    meaning: individuals of the people.

  • كَذَّبَتْDeniedقَوْمُthe people ofنُوحٍNoahالْمُرْسَلِينَthe messengers
  • Denied the people of Noah the messengers

    أَيْthat isنُوحاًNoahوَحْدَهُ.alone.

    that is Noah alone.

  • إِنَّاIndeed, Weفَتَحْنَاhave granted youلَكَa victory
  • Indeed, We have granted you

    (أَيْ:(that is:إِنِّيIndeed, Iفَتَحْتُhave grantedلَكَ)for you)

    (that is: Indeed, I have granted for you)

  • إِنَّاIndeed, Weلَقَادِرُونَare able
  • Indeed, We are able

    أَيْ:that is:إِنِّيIndeed, Iلَقَادِرٌ.am able.

    that is: Indeed, I am able.

  • وَلَكِنَّAnd butاللَّهَAllahيُسَلِّطُgives powerرُسُلَهُto His messengers
  • And but Allah gives power to His messengers

    أَيْ:that is:يُسَلِّطُHe gives power toمُحَمَّداًMuhammad- صَلَّى- peaceاللَّهُbe uponعَلَيْهِhimوَسَلَّمَ -.and blessings -

    that is: He gives power to Muhammad - peace and blessings be upon him -.

  • الَّذِينَThoseقَالَsaidلَهُمُto themالنَّاسُthe people
  • Those said to them the people

    أَيْthat isعُرْوَةُUrwahالثَّقَفِىal-Thaqafiوَحْدَهُ.alone.

    that is Urwah al-Thaqafi alone.

  • فَأَذَاقَهَاSo He made it tasteاللَّهُAllahلِبَاسَthe garment ofالْجُوعِhunger
  • So He made it taste Allah the garment of hunger

    أَيْ:that is:طَعْمَthe taste ofالْجُوعِ.hunger.

    that is: the taste of hunger.

    أَبْدَلَHe substitutedالطَّعْمَthe tasteبِاللِّبَاسِwith the garment

    He substituted the taste with the garment

    إِيذَاناًsignifyingبِأَنَّthatالْجُوعَhungerلَهُhasأَثَرٌan effect

    signifying that hunger has an effect

    مِنَofالْقُحُولِemaciationوَالذُّبُولِand withering

    of emaciation and withering

    مَاwhatيَعُمُّcoversالْبَدَنَthe bodyوَيَشْمَلُهُand encompasses itكَاللِّبَاسِ.like the garment.

    what covers the body and encompasses it like the garment.

  • صِبْغَةَThe coloring ofاللَّهِAllah
  • The coloring of Allah

    أَيْ:that is:دِينُreligion ofاللَّهِ.Allah.

    that is: religion of Allah.

    أَبْدَلَHe substitutedبِالصِّبْغَةِwith the coloring

    He substituted with the coloring

    إِيذَاناًsignifyingبِأَنَّهُthat itكَالصِّبْغِis like the dye

    signifying that it is like the dye

    تَتَلَوَّنُtakes colorبِهِwith itالنَّفْسُthe soul

    the soul takes color with it

    أَوْorمُشَاكَلَةٌcorrespondenceبِقَوْلِto the saying ofالنَّصَارَىthe Christiansفِيregardingالْمَعْمُودِيَّةِ.baptism.

    or correspondence to the saying of the Christians regarding baptism.

  • وَطُورِAnd mountسِينِينَSinai
  • And mount Sinai

    أَيْ:that is:طُورِMountسِينَاءَ.Sinai.

    that is: Mount Sinai.

  • سَلَامٌPeaceعَلَىbe uponإِلْIl-يَاسِينَYasin
  • Peace be upon Il-Yasin

    أَيْthat isعَلَىuponإِلْيَاسَ.Elijah.

    that is upon Elijah.
