مَثَلُهُمْtheir likeness
كَمَثَلِis like the likeness of
الَّذِيthe one who
اسْتَوْقَدَkindled
نَارًاa fire
فَلَمَّاand when
أَضَاءَتْit illuminated
مَاwhat
حَوْلَهُwas around him
ذَهَبَtook away
اللَّهُAllah
بِنُورِهِمْtheir light
Their likeness is as the likeness of the one who kindled a fire, and when it illuminated what was around him, Allah took away their light.
وَأَحْيَانًا
And sometimesيُورِدُونَ
they bringالْمُفْرَدَ
the singularمَكَانَ
in place ofالتَّثْنِيَةِ،
the dual,And sometimes they bring the singular in place of the dual,
وَمِنْ
and amongأَمْثِلَتِهِ:
its examples:قَوْلُهِ
His statement- تَعَالَى -:
- the Exalted -and among its examples is His statement - the Exalted -:
إِلَّاExcept
أَنْthat
أَغْنَاهُمُenriched them
اللَّهُAllah
وَرَسُولُهُand His Messenger
مِنْout of
فَضْلِهِHis bounty
Except that Allah and His Messenger enriched them out of His bounty.
إِنْIf
كُنْتُI am
عَلَىupon
بَيِّنَةٍa clear proof
مِنْfrom
رَبِّيmy Lord
وَآتَانِيand He has given me
رَحْمَةًmercy
مِنْfrom
عِنْدِهِHimself
فَعُمِّيَتْbut it has been obscured
عَلَيْكُمْfrom you
If I am upon a clear proof from my Lord and He has given me mercy from Himself, but it has been obscured from you
وَالْأَصْلُ
And the originalفَعُمِيَتَا،
was fa-umiyata,فَأَفْرَدَهُ
so He made it singularلِأَنَّهُمَا
because they twoكَشَيْءٍ
are like a thingوَاحِدٍ،
single,وَمِثْلُهُ
and similar to it is"اللَّهُ
"Allahوَرَسُولُهُ
and His Messengerأَعْلَمُ".
know best."And the original was fa-umiyata, so He made it singular because they two are like a single thing, and similar to it is "Allah and His Messenger know best."

Replacingالشَّرْطِ
the conditionوَالْجَزَاءِ
and the consequenceوَجَوَابِ
and the answer ofالْقَسَمِ
the oathبِغَيْرِ
with otherذَلِكَ:

- And sometimesتَقْتَضِي
requiresطَبِيعَةُ
the nature ofالْكَلاَمِ
speechأَنْ
thatيُذْكَرَ
be mentionedالْجَزَاءُ
the consequenceفِي
inصُورَةِ
the form ofالْجَزَاءِ
consequenceوَالشَّرْطُ
and the conditionفِي
inصُورَةِ
the form ofالشَّرْطِ،
condition,- And sometimes the nature of speech requires that the consequence be mentioned in the form of a consequence and the condition in the form of a condition,
وَجَوَابُ
and the answer ofالْقَسَمِ
the oathفِي
inصُورَةِ
the form ofجَوَابِ
answer ofالْقَسَمِ
the oathوَلَكِنْ
butيَتَصَرَّفُ

resumedand the answer of the oath in the form of the answer of the oath, but the speech is altered so this part - whether it is a consequence, a condition, or an answer to the oath - is mentioned in the form of an independent, resumed sentence,
وَيَكُونُ
and there isالْمَيْلُ
the inclinationعِنْدَ
atذَلِكَ
thatإِلَى
towardsالْمَعْنَى
the meaningوَتَقُومُ
and there standsهُنَاكَ
thereقَرِينَةٌ
an indicationتَدُلُّ
pointingعَلَى
toذَلِكَ
thatبِوَجْهٍ
in a wayمِنْ
fromالْوُجُوهِ.
the ways.and at that point the inclination is towards the meaning, and an indication stands there pointing to that in one way or another.

- تَعَالَى -:- the Exalted -:
{وَالنَّازِعَاتِ{By those who extract
غَرْقًا}with violence}
{فَالْمُدَبِّرَاتِ{And those who arrange
أَمْراًthe matter

تَرْجُفُwill quake
الرَّاجِفَةُ}the quaking one}
From examples of that is His statement - the Exalted -: {By those who extract with violence} {And those who arrange the matter (5) The Day the quaking one will quake}.
فَالْمَعْنَى:
So the meaning is:أَنَّ
thatالْبَعْثَ
resurrectionوَالْحَشْرَ
and gatheringحَقٌّ،
is true,يَدُلُّ
indicatedعَلَيْهِ
by itقَوْلُهُ
is His statement- تَعَالَى -:
- the Exalted -:{يَوْمَ
{The Dayتَرْجُفُ
will quakeالرَّاجِفَةُ}.
the quaking one.}So the meaning is: that the resurrection and gathering are true, indicated by His statement - the Exalted -: {The Day the quaking one will quake}.
