So he rode until he came to the house of Itakh and his sword and his cap and his tunic were taken and he was handed over to his servants and they departed while they did not doubt that he is staying at Itakh's.
ثُمَّThenسُوهِرَhe was kept awakeوَمُنِعَand deniedالنَّوْمَsleepوَسُئِلَand he was questionedعَنْaboutشَيْءٍsomethingيُعَذَّبُhe might be torturedبِهِwith itفَدُلَّso he was guidedعَلَىtoتَنُّورٍan ovenمِنْmade ofخَشَبٍwoodفِيهِin itمَسَامِيرُnailsقِيَامٌ.standing upright.
Then he was kept awake and denied sleep and he was questioned about something he might be tortured with, so he was guided to an oven made of wood in it nails standing upright.
فَحُدِّثْتُSo it was narrated to meعَنْfromأَحْمَدَAhmadبْنِson ofأَبِيAbiدُؤَادَDu'adأَنَّهُthat heقَالَ:said:هُوَHeأَوَّلُis the first whoمَنْwhoأَمَرَorderedبِعَمَلِthe making ofالتَّنُّورِthe ovenفُبْتُلِيَso he was testedبِهِwith itلِصِحَّةِdue to the truth ofالْمَثَلِ:the proverb:كَمَاAsتَدِينُyou judgeتُدَانُ،you will be judged,وَإِنْand ifشِئْتَ:you wish:مَنْWhoeverيُرِcauses harmيَوْماًone dayيُرَharm will be causedبِهِ،to him,وَإِنْand ifشِئْتَ:you wish:مَنْWhoeverحَفَرَdigsحُفْرَةًa pitهَوَىfallsفِيهَا،in it,فَعُذِّبَso he was torturedفِيinالتَّنُّورِ.the oven.
So it was narrated to me from Ahmad ibn Abi Du'ad that he said: He is the first who ordered the making of the oven so he was tested with it due to the truth of the proverb: As you judge you will be judged, and if you wish: Whoever causes harm one day harm will be caused to him, and if you wish: Whoever digs a pit falls in it, so he was tortured in the oven.
فَحَدَّثَAnd narratedالْمُوَكَّلُthe one entrustedبِعَذَابِهِwith his tortureفَقَالَ:and said:كُنْتُI used toأُخْرِجُbring him outوَأُقْفِلُand lockعَلَيْهِupon himالْبَابَthe doorفَيَمُدُّand he would extendيَدَيْهِhis handsإِلَىtoالسَّمَاءِthe skyجَمِيعاًboth togetherحَتَّىuntilيَدُقَّhe would beatمَوْضِعَthe place ofكَتِفَيْهِhis shouldersثُمَّthenيَدْخُلُhe would enterالتَّنُّورَthe ovenوَيَجْلِسُand sitوَفِيand inالتَّنُّورِthe ovenمَسَامِيرُwere nailsحَدِيدٍof ironوَفِيand inوَسَطِهِits middleخَشَبَةٌa piece of woodمُعْتَرِضَةٌtransverseيَجْلِسُthe one being torturedالْمُعَذَّبُwould sitعَلَيْهَاon itإِذَاwhenأَرَادَhe wantedأَنْtoيَسْتَرِيحَ.rest.
And the one entrusted with his torture narrated and said: I used to bring him out and lock upon him the door and he would extend his hands to the sky both together until he would beat the place of his shoulders then he would enter the oven and sit and in the oven were nails of iron and in its middle a transverse piece of wood the one being tortured would sit on it when he wanted to rest.
قَالَSaidالْمُعَذِّبُthe torturerلَهُ:to him:فَخَاتَلْتُهُSo I tricked himيَوْماًone dayوَأَرَيْتُهُand showed himأَنِّيthat Iقَدْhaveأَقْفَلْتُlockedعَلَيْهِupon himثُمَّthenمَكَثَhe remainedقَلِيلاًa littleوَدَفَعْتُand I pushedالْبَابَthe doorفَإِذَاand beholdهُوَheقَاعِدٌ،was sitting,فَقُلْتُ:so I said:أَرَاكَI see youتَعْمَلُdoingهَذَا!this!
The torturer to him said: So I tricked him one day and showed him that I have locked upon him then he remained a little and I pushed the door and behold he was sitting, so I said: I see you doing this!
