Upon him be peace, and he said: "This is the first day the Arabs exacted justice from the non-Arabs, and through me they were granted victory," meaning in his name, blessings and peace be upon him. He said: Chosroes was struck with dismay, became extremely angry about that, and wailing and lamentation broke out in Al-Mada'in. So Chosroes summoned the soldiers, and distributed weapons and wealth among them to resume the war against Bakr bin Wail. Then the patricians of Rome rose against their king Caesar and killed him, so he became occupied with that instead of resuming the war against Bakr bin Wail, and Hani bin Mas'ud Al-Mudhallaf was one of the loyal ones.

And among them is the Tai'i, companion of An-Nu'man bin Al-Mundhir. The story of it is that An-Nu'man bin Al-Mundhir rode out on his day of misery — and he had two days: a day of misery and a day of happiness; no one met him on his day of misery except that he killed him, and on his day of happiness no one met him except that he bestowed gifts and gave to him. A Bedouin from Tai'i met him on his day of misery and said: "May Allah greet the King, indeed I have small children for whom I have not appointed anyone. If the King permits me to go to them, I give him the covenant of Allah that I will return to him once I provide for them, until I place my hand in his hand." An-Nu'man felt soft for him and said: "No, unless a man among those with us guarantees you, for if you do not come we will kill him." And Sharik bin Amr bin Shurahbil, companion of An-Nu'man, was with him. So the Tai'i said: "O Sharik, son of Amr... is there any escape from death? O brother of every afflicted one... O brother of him who has no brother! O brother of An-Nu'man, release today... from an old man his shackles! Indeed Shaiban is a tribe... whose deeds are the best of people." So Sharik said: "He is upon me, may Allah reform the King!" So the Tai'i departed, and An-Nu'man was saying to Sharik: "Indeed the beginning of this day has passed and will not return!" And Sharik was saying: "You have no way against me until we reach evening." When they evening came, a figure approached while An-Nu'man was looking at Sharik, and said: "You have no way against me until the figure draws near." While they were in that state, the Tai'i approached, and An-Nu'man said: "By Allah, I have not seen anyone more noble than you two, and I do not know which of you is more noble! By Allah, I will not be the most base of the three; behold, I have lifted my day of misery!" And he released the way of the Tai'i, so he began to say: "And truly my clan called me to dissent, but I refused when words became clamorous. Indeed I am a man, loyalty is my nature, and the deeds of every refined person are generous." An-Nu'man said: "What drove you to fulfill [the covenant]?" He said: "My religion." He said: "And what is your religion?" He said: "Christianity." He said: "Present it to me!" So he presented it to him, and An-Nu'man became a Christian.
