But soon the matter became clear: these are the puppies that Napoleon took from their mothers and took care of far away from sight.

Napoleon climbed the platform that he had used to deliver his old wise speech not long ago, followed by his dogs. He announced that starting today, meetings would not be held on Sunday morning. He said that they are not useful at all; they are simply a waste of time. From now on any question related to the management of the farm will be decided by a committee of pigs that will be under his leadership. The committee will meet in secret sessions. After that the other animals will be informed of the decisions taken, and the greeting of the flag and singing the anthem of the Animals of England will continue, but public debates will be canceled. The animals were affected by the shock caused by the expulsion of “Snowball,” and when they listened to these decisions, they were astonished. Many of them wanted to protest, but they lacked convincing arguments. Even Boxer was grumbling, lowering his ears in his gloomy way, with a tuft of his mane covering his face. He tried hard to collect his thoughts but nothing occurred to his mind.
