There was Clover, Edmund, Muriel, Benjamin, the cows and the sheep, and a mixed flock of geese and chickens, all here, except for the cat that had hidden before the call to the meeting. Only 'Boxer' remained standing, without taking a specific place, moving his long black tail from side to side and occasionally letting out a confused neigh. In the end he said: 'That is out of my league. I never imagined such things would happen on our farm. No doubt we have made some mistakes. The only solution in my opinion lies in more work. Starting today, I will wake up early, an hour before the usual time.' Then he left heavily heading towards the quarry, and once again, he carried two large loads of stone and dragged them towards the mill, before the night comes and he seeks shelter in his stable. The animals gathered around Clover, remaining silent. From the hill where I lay, there is a wide view of the village, and a large part of the farm was visible, the long pasture extending to the road, the field of grasses, the little woods, the water supply, the tilled land where wheat grows abundantly, and the red roofs of the farm buildings rising from them in spiral columns of smoke. It is the transparency of a spring night. The grass and the hedges weighed down with buds shine like gold under the slanting rays of the sun. The farm has never seemed so desirable to the animals as it did today. They were amazed.
