لَوْifأَنْthatأَحَدًاsomeoneأَشَارَpointedبِأَصَابِعِهِwith his fingerأَوْorشِفَتِهِhis lipأَوْorبِعَيْنِهِwith his eyeأَوْorبِرَأْسِهِwith his headلَأَمْرٌit is a matterمُحَرَّمٌ؛forbidden;فَالْنَّاسُthe peopleالَّذِينَwhoحَوْلَهُمْaround themلَاdo notيَعْلَمُونَknowعَنْهُ،about him,لَكِنَّbutاللَّهَAllahتَعَالَىthe Exaltedيَرَاهُ؛sees him;فَلْيَحْذَرْso let bewareهَذَاthisمِنْfromيُؤْمِنُbelievesبِهِin Himوَلَوْand ifأَنَّنَاthat weنُؤْمِنُbelieveبِمَاin whatتَاقَضِيَrequiresأَسْمَاءِnamesاللَّهِof Allahوَصِفَاتِهِ؛and His attributes;لَوَجَدْتَyou would findالِاسْتِقَامَةَthe righteousnessكَامِلَةًcompleteفِينَا.in us.
If someone pointed with his finger, his lip, his eye, or his head, it would be a forbidden matter; for the people around him do not know about it, but Allah the Exalted sees it; so let this be a warning for whoever believes in Him. And if we believe in what follows from the names and attributes of Allah, you would find complete righteousness in us.
قَوْلُهُHis saying«فَلَا"So do notيَنْفُونَdenyعَنْهُabout Himمَاwhatوَصَفَdescribedبِهِwith itنَفْسَهُ";Himself";وَلَاand do notيُحَرِّفُونَdistortالْكَلِمَthe wordsعَنْfromمَوَاضِعِهِ.its places.
His saying: "So do not deny about Him what He has described Himself with, and do not distort the words from their places."
الْشَّرْحُ:Explanation:قَوْلُهُHis saying«فَلا"So do notيَنْفُونَdenyعَنْهُabout Himمَاwhatوَصَفَdescribedبِهِwith itنَفْسَهُ؛Himself;أَيْthat is:لَاdo notيَنْفِيdeny.
Explanation: His saying: "So do not deny about Him what He has described Himself with;" that is: do not deny.
أَهْلُThe people ofالسُّنَّةِthe Sunnahوَالْجَمَاعَةِand the congregationعَنْregardingاللَّهِAllahمَاwhatوَصَفَHe describedبِهِwith itنَفْسَهُ؛Himself;لَأَنَّهُمْbecause they areمُتَّبِعُونَfollowersلِلنَّصِّto the textنَفْيًاin negationوَإِثْبَاتًا؛and affirmation;فَكُلُّfor allمَاwhatوَصَفَdescribedاللَّـهَAllahبِهِwith it—نَفْسَهُ يُثْبِتُونَهُthey affirm His descriptionعَلَىuponحَقِيقَتِهِ؛its truth;فَلَاso do notيَنْفُونَdenyعَنْ اللَّـهِabout Allahمَاwhatوَصَفَdescribedبِهِwith itنَفْسَهُHimselfسَوَاءًwhetherكَانَit wasمِنَofالصِّفَاتِthe attributesالذَّاتِيَّةِthe inherentأَوْorالْفِعْلِيَّةِthe active(أَوْ(orالْخَبَرِيَّةِ).news).
The people of the Sunnah and the congregation do not deny about Allah what He has described Himself with; because they are followers of the text in negation and affirmation; for all what Allah has described Himself with they affirm upon its truth; so do not deny about Allah what He described Himself with, whether it was of the inherent attributes or the active (or news).
الْصِّفَاتُThe attributesالذَّاتِيَّةُ؛the inherent;كَالحَيَاةِsuch as lifeوَالْقُدْرَةِand powerوَالْعِلْمِand knowledge......وَمَاand whatأَشْبَهَis similarذَٰلِكَ،to that,وَتَنْقَسِمُand is dividedإِلَىintoذَاتِيَّةٍinherentمَعْنَوِيَّةٍspiritualوَذَاتِيَّةٍand inherentخَبَرِيَّةٍ،news,وَهِيَand it isالَّتِيthat whichمَسْمَّاهَاits nameأَبْعَاضٌpartsلَنَاfor usوَأَجْزَاءٌ؛and limbs;كَالْيَدِlike the handوَالْوَجْهِand the faceوَالْعَيْنِ؛and the eye;فَهَذِهِthese areيُسَمُّونَهَاthey are calledالْعُلَمَاءُ:the scholars:ذَاتِيَّةٌinherentخَبَرِيَّةٌ،news;ذَاتِيَّةٌinherentلَأَنَّهَاbecause they areلَاdo notتَنْفَصِلُseparateوَلَمْand have notيَزَلْceaseاللَّهُAllahوَلَاand does notيَزَالُcontinuouslyمُتَّصِفًاdescribed by them.بِهَا.with them.
The inherent attributes; such as life, power, knowledge... and what is similar to that, and is divided into: inherent spiritual and inherent news; and it is that which its name has parts for us and limbs; like the hand, the face, and the eye; these are called by the scholars: inherent news, inherent because they do not separate and Allah has not ceased to be described by them.
خَبَرِيَّةٌnews;كَسُنَيْقٍas Sunqوَالْعِلْمِand knowledgeكَالسِّرِّيَّةِlike the secretوَالحِكْمَةِand wisdom......وَنَعْنِيAnd we meanبِهَاwith them;مَعْنَىmeaningالَّذِيwhichيُرَجَعُreturnsبِهَا.with it.
The news refers to; such as Sunq and knowledge, like the secret and wisdom... and we mean by them the meaning which returns with it.
لِهَذِهِFor theseنَقُولُwe sayفِيinمِثْلِlikeهَذِهِtheseالْصِّفَاتِattributesالْيَدِthe handوَالْوَجْهِand the face;وَمَاand whatأَشْبَهَهَاis similar to them;إِنَّهَاverily they areذَاتِيَّةٌinherentبِخَصْلَتِهَا؛with its characteristics;كَمَاasأَيْضًاalso;لَاnotتَنْفَصِلُseparateوَلَمْand have notيَزَلْceaseاللَّهُAllahوَلَاand does notيَزَالُstillمُتَّصِفًاdescribed by them.
For these, we say in like those attributes: the hand and the face; and whatever is similar to them; verily they are inherent with their characteristics; as they do not separate and have not ceased to be described by Allah, and has not ceased.
