نَقُولُWe sayفِيin«أَشْهَدُ»"I bear witness"مَا قُلْنَاwhat we saidفِيin«أَشْهَدُ»"I bear witness"الأُولَىٰthe first
We say in "I bear witness" what we said in the first "I bear witness".
وَمُحَمَّدٌAnd Muhammadهُوَisابْنُthe son ofعَبْدِ اللَّهِAbdullahبْنِbinعَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِAbdul Muttalibالْقُرَشِيِّthe Qurashiالْهَاشِمِيِّ،the Hashemiteالَّذِيwhoهُوَisمِنْfromسُلالَةِthe lineage ofإِسْمَاعِيلَIshmaelابْنِson ofإِبْرَاهِيمَ،Abraham,أَشْرَفُthe noblestالنَّاسِof peopleنَسَبًا،in lineage,عَلَيْهِpeace be upon him
And Muhammad is the son of Abdullah bin Abdul Muttalib the Qurashi, the Hashemite, who is from the lineage of Ishmael son of Abraham, the noblest of people in lineage, peace be upon him.
هَذَاThisالنَّبِيُّprophetالْكَرِيمُthe nobleهُوَhe isعَبْدٌa servantاللَّهِof Allahوَرَسُولُهُand His Messengerوَهُوَand he isأَعْبَدُthe most devotedالنَّاسِ،of people,وَأَشَدُّهُمْand the most persistent among themتَحْقِيقًاin fulfillingلِعِبَادَتِهِ.His worship.
This noble prophet is the servant of Allah and His Messenger, and he is the most devoted of people, and the most persistent among them in fulfilling His worship.
كَانَHe used toعَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُpeace be upon himيَقُومُstandفِيatاللَّيْلِnightحَتَّىuntilتَتَوَرَّمَhis feet swellقَدَمَاهُ،from his feet,وَيُقَالُ لَهُand he is toldكَيْفَhowتَصْنَعُdo you doهَذَا؟this?وَقَدْAnd hasغَفَرَforgivenاللَّهُAllahلَكَfor youمَاwhatتَقَدَّمَhas precededمِنْofذَنْبِكَyour sinsوَمَاand whatتَأَخَّرَ؟!has come after?
He used to stand in the night until his feet would swell, and he is told: "How do you do this, while Allah has forgiven you what has preceded and what is to come?"
فَيَقُولُHe saysأَفَلَاShould I notأَكُونَbeعَبْدًاa servantشَكُورًا؟grateful?"
He says: "Should I not be a grateful servant?"
لَأَنَّBecauseاللَّهَAllahتَعَالَىthe Exaltedأَثْنَىpraisedعَلَىonالْعَبْدِthe servantالشكُورِgratefulحِينَمَاwhenقَالَHe saidعَنْaboutنُوحٍ:Noah:إِنَّهُIndeed, heكَانَwasعَبْدًاa servantشَكُورًا)grateful."
Because Allah the Exalted praised the grateful servant when He said about Noah: "Indeed, he was a grateful servant."
فَأَرَادَSo he wantedالنَّبِيُّthe prophetعَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُpeace be upon himأَنْtoيَصِلَreachإِلَىtoهَذِهِthisالْغَايَةَ،goal,وَأَنْand toيَعْبُدَworshipاللَّهَAllahتَعَالَىthe Exaltedحَقَّproperlyعِبَادَتِهِ،His worship,وَلِهَذَاand for thisكَانَhe wasأَتْقَىthe most piousالنَّاسِ،of people,وَأَخْشَىand the most fearfulالنَّاسِof the peopleلِلَّهِ،of Allah,وَأَشَدُّهُمْand the most eagerرَغْبَةًfor seekingفِيَمَاin whatعِندَatاللَّهِAllahتَعَالَى؛the Exalted;فَهُوَSo he isعَبْدٌa servantلِلَّهِ،to Allah,وَمُقَتَضَىand the implicationعِبَادَتِهِof his servitudeأَنَّهُis that heلَاdoes notيَمْلِكُownلِنَفْسِهِfor himselfوَلَاand notلِغَيْرِهِfor othersنَفْعًاbenefitوَلَاand notضَرًّا،harm,وَلَيْسَand notلَهُfor himحَقٌّthe rightفِيinالرُّبُوبِيَّةِlordship,إِطْلَاقًا،at all,بَلْratherهُوَhe isعَبْدٌa servantمُحْتَاجٌin needإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllahمُفْتَقِرٌneedyلَهُto Himيَسْأَلُهُto ask Himوَيَدْعُوهُand to invoke Himوَيَرْجُوهُand to hope for Himوَيَخَافُهُ،and to fear Him,بَلْand indeedإِنَّIndeedاللَّهَAllahأَمَرَهُcommanded himأَنْtoيُعْلِنَdeclareوَأَنْand thatيُبَلِّغَhe conveyبَلَاغًاa messageخَاصًّاspecificبِأَنَّهُthat heلَاdoes notيَمْلِكُownشَيْئًاanythingمِنَofهَذِهِtheseالْأُمُورِ،matters,فَقَالَso he said:قُلْSayلَاI do not,أَمْلِكُI ownلِنَفْسِيfor myselfنَفْعًا،benefit,وَلَاand notضَرًّا،harm,إِلَّاexceptمَاwhatشَاءَwilledاللَّهُAllahوَلَوْand ifكُنتُI wereأَعْلَمُknowledgeableالْغَيْبَthe unseenلَاسْتَكْثَرْتُI would have gatheredمِنَofالْخَيْرِ،goodness,وَمَاand whatمَسَّنِيَhas touched meالسُّوءَevil"﴾"[الأَعْرَافِ:[Al-A'raf:١٨٨]،188],وَأَمَرَهُand commanded himأَنْto(١)(1)الْبُخَارِيِّAl-Bukhari(٤٨٣٧)(4837)،,وَمُسْلِمٍand Muslim(٢٨٢٠)(2820);عَنْfromعَائِشَةَAishaرَضيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا.may Allah be pleased with her.
And He commanded him to declare and convey a specific message that he owns nothing of these matters, so he said: "Say, I own nothing for myself, neither benefit nor harm except what Allah wills, and if I knew the unseen, I would have gathered much good and no evil has touched me." [Al-A'raf: 188], and He commanded him to (1) Al-Bukhari (4837), and Muslim (2820), from Aisha may Allah be pleased with her.
