His birth and upbringing:

Sheikh Abu Abdullah was born in the city of Unayzah, one of the cities of Al-Qassim, in the year 1347 AH, on the twenty-seventh of the blessed month of Ramadan, in a family known for its religion and uprightness. He studied under some members of his family, such as his maternal grandfather Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Al-Damgh, may Allah have mercy on him; he read the Quran to him and memorized it. He then turned to seeking knowledge, learning script, arithmetic, and some arts of literature.

وَكَانَAnd he hadالشَّيْخُthe sheikhقَدْhadرُزِقَblessed him withذَكاءًintelligenceوَزَكَاءًand purityوَعَزْمًاand high ambition,وَحِرْصًاand diligenceعَلَىtoالاِحْتِسَابِacquisitionالعِلْمِيِّof knowledge.فِيInمُزَاحَمَتِهِhis competitionالرُّكْبِwith the caravanلِمَجَالِسِto the sessionsالعُلَمَاءِ،of the scholars,وَفِيand inمُقَدَّمَتِهِمْtheir forefront,الشَّيْخُthe sheikh,الْعَلَّامَةُthe well-known scholarالْمُفَسِّرُthe interpreterالْفُقَهَاءُthe juristعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَانِAbdul Rahmanبِنَson ofنَاصِرٍNasirالسَّعْدِيِّAl-Sa'di.وَكَانَAnd Abdul Rahmanعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَانِhad set upقَدْtwoأَقَامَstudentsمِنْofطَلَابَهُhis studentsلِتَعْلِيمِto teach

And he had been blessed with intelligence and purity and high ambition, and a diligence for the acquisition of knowledge, in competing with the caravan for the sessions of scholars, and at the forefront of them was the well-known scholar, the interpreter, and jurist Abdul Rahman bin Nasir Al-Sa'di. And Abdul Rahman had set up two of his students to teach.
