وَكَثِيرٌAnd manyمِنْofالْجُهَّالِthe ignorantاعْتَمَدُواhave reliedعَلَىonرَحْمَةِthe mercyاللَّهِof Godوَعَفْوِهِand His forgivenessوَكَرَمِهِand His generosityوَضَيَّعُواand wastedأَمْرَهُHis commandوَنَهْيَهُand His prohibitionوَنَسُواand forgotأَنَّهُthat He isشَدِيدٌsevereالْعِقَابِin punishmentوَأَنَّهُand that Heلَاdoes notيَرُدُّturn awayبَأْسَهُHis wrathعَنْfromالْقَوْمِthe peopleالْمُجْرِمِينَ.the criminals.
And many of the ignorant have relied on the mercy, forgiveness, and generosity of God, while they wasted His commands and prohibitions, forgetting that He is severe in punishment, and that He does not turn away His wrath from the criminal people.
وَمَنْAnd whoeverاعْتَمَدَreliesعَلَىonالْعَفْوِthe forgivenessمَعَwithالإِصْرَارِthe insistenceفَهُوَhe isكَالمُعَانِدِ.like the defiant.
And whoever relies on forgiveness while insisting is like the defiant.
وَقَالَAnd saidمَعْرُوفٌMa'roufرَجَاؤُكَYour hopeلِرَحْمَةِfor the mercyمِنْofلَاnotتُطِيعَهُobey youمِنْofالْخَذْلَانِthe abandonmentوَالْحُمُقِ.and folly.
And Ma'rouf said: Your hope for the mercy of one who does not obey you is of abandonment and folly.
وَقَالَAnd saidبَعْضُsomeالْعُلَمَاءِscholarsمِنْofقَطَعَwho cutعَضُوًاa limbمِنْكَfrom youفِيinالدُّنْيَاthe worldبِسَرِقَةِby the theftثَلاثَةِof threeدَرَاهِمَdirhams,لَاdo notتَأْمَنْbe secureأَنْthatتَكُونَhe becomesعُقُوبَتَهُhis punishmentفِيinالْآخِرَةِthe Hereafterعَلَىlikeنَحْوَthis.
And some scholars said: Whoever has a limb cut from you in this world by the theft of three dirhams should not feel secure that his punishment in the Hereafter will be similar to this.
وَقِيلَAnd it was saidلِلْحَسَنِto Al-Hasanنَرَاكَwe see youطَوِيلًاlongالْبُكَاءِof weepingفَقَالَhe said:أَخَافُI fearأَنْthatيُطْرَحَنِيHe throws meفِيintoالنَّارِthe Fire,وَلَاand does notيُبَالِي.care.
And it was said to Al-Hasan: We see you weeping a lot. He said: I fear that He will throw me into the Fire, and He does not care.
وَسَأَلَAnd askedرَجُلٌa manالْحَسَنَAl-Hasanفَقَالَand said:يَاOأَبَاfather ofسَعِيدٍSaeed.كَيْفَHowنَصْنَعُshall we actبِمُجَالَسَةِwith the company ofأَقْوَامٍpeople.
And a man asked Al-Hasan, saying: O father of Saeed, how shall we act with the company of people?
هُوَHe isالْكُرْخِيُّthe famous Karakhiالزَّاهِدُasceticالْمَشْهُورُknownالْمُتَوَفَّىwho diedسَنَةَin the year٢٠٠هـ200 AH.
He is the famous ascetic Karakhi, known for his death in the year 200 AH.
وَرَدَIt was mentionedفِيinطَبَقَاتِthe classificationsالصُّوفِيَّةِof the Sufisلِلسُّلَمِيby Al-Sulamiبِلَفْظِin the wordingوَارْتَجَىAnd he hopedرَحْمَةَfor mercyمِنْfromلَاone who does notيُطَاعُobeyedجَهْلٌis ignoranceوَحُمُقٌ.and folly.
It was reported in the classifications of the Sufis by Al-Sulami in the wording: And he hoped for the mercy of one who is not obeyed; ignorance and folly.
فَSoمِنْكَfrom youعَضُوًا.a limb.
So from you a limb.
نَقَلَIt was narratedالمُؤَلِّفُby the authorنَحْوَهُsimilar to thisمِنْfromكَلَامِthe wordsأَبِيof Abuالْوَفَاءِal-WafaابْنِibnعَقِيلٍAqilفِيمَاregarding whatيَأْتِيwill comeفِيinصpage
It was narrated by the author similarly from the words of Abu al-Wafa ibn Aqil regarding what comes on page.
صِفَةُDescriptionالصَّفْوَةِof the elite.وَزَادَAnd addedبَعْدَهَاafter itفِيinطthe chapterالْمَدَنِيِّAl-Madaniوَالسَّلَفِيَّةِand the Salafi:وَكَانَand he usedيَقُولُto say:إِنَّthatقَوْمًاa peopleأَلْهَتْهُمُwere distractedأَمَانِيُّby hopesالْمَغْفِرَةِof forgivenessحَتَّىuntilخَرَجُواthey leftمِنَfromالدُّنْيَاthe worldبِغَيْرِwithoutتَوْبَةٍ.repentance.يَقُولُOne says:لَأَنِّيBecause I amحَسَنُgoodالظَّنِّthoughtبِرَبِّيof my Lord,وَكَذَبٌand it is false; since if he had good thoughts, he would have done good deeds.وَلَمْAnd did notتُذْكَرْit mentionهَذِهِthisالزِّيَادَةِadditionفِيinشَيْءٍanythingمِنْofالنُّسَخِthe copiesالَّتِيthatبَيْنَbetweenأَيْدِينَا.our hands.
And added after it in Al-Madani and Salafi: And he used to say: That a people were distracted by hopes of forgiveness until they left this world without repentance. One says: 'Because I have good thoughts of my Lord,' and it is false; if he had good thoughts, he would have done good deeds. And this addition was not found in any of the copies that we have.
