The first printing of this book was in India in the year 1307 Hijri.

بِعُنْوَانِtitled«الْجَوَابُThe responseالْكَافِيthe sufficientلِمَنْfor whoeverسَأَلَaskedعَنْaboutالْدَّوَاءِthe medicineالشَّافِي»the healing"

Titled "The Sufficient Response for Whoever Asked About the Healing Medicine."

ثُمَّThenطُبِعَتْwas printedفِيinالْقَاهِرَةِCairoطَبْعَتَيْنِtwo editionsمُخْتَلِفَتَيْنِdifferentبِالْعُنْوَانِwith the same titleنَفْسِهِitself

Then it was printed in Cairo in two different editions with the same title.

فَاشْتَهَرَتْTherefore, it became famousهَذَاthisالْعُنْوَانُtitleوَلَعَلَّand perhapsأَوَّلُthe firstطَبْعَةٍprintingخَالَفَتْهَاthat contradicted itالَّتِيthatأَخْرَجَهَاwas published byالشَّيْخُSheikhمُحَمَّدٌMuhammadالدِّينِthe religionعَبْدُالْحَمِيدِAbdulhamidرَحِمَهُmay he restاللَّهُAllahسَنَةَyear۱۳۷۷هـ1377 Hijri

Therefore, this title became famous, and perhaps the first printing that contradicted it was published by Sheikh Muhammad Al-Din Abdulhamid, may Allah rest him, in the year 1377 Hijri.

فِيInالْقَاهِرَةِCairoبِعُنْوَانِtitled«الْدَّاءُThe diseaseوَالْدَّوَاءُ»and the medicine"

In Cairo, titled "The Disease and the Medicine."

وَلَكِنْButفِيinالْعَامِthe yearنَفْسِهِitselfصُدِرَتْanother edition was issuedفِيinالْقَاهِرَةِCairoأَيْضًاalsoطَبْعَةٌeditionأُخْرَىanotherعُنِيَتْwhich was taken care ofبِهَاwith itالشَّيْخُSheikhمَحْمُودٌMahmoudعَبْدُالْوَهَّابِAbdulwahabفَايِدٌFayedرَحِمَهُmay he restاللَّهُAllahبِالْعُنْوَانِwith the titleالأوَّلِthe first

But in the same year, another edition was issued in Cairo, which was taken care of by Sheikh Mahmoud Abdulwahab Fayed, may Allah rest him, with the first title.

وَقَدْAnd it hasأُلِّفَbeen authored byالنَّاسُpeopleهَذَاthisالْعُنْوَانُtitleوَلَعَلَّهُمand perhaps theyأَعْجَبُواwere pleasedبِهِwith itلِمَاbecause of whatفِيهِis in itمِنْofالسَّجْعِthe rhyming styleالسَّهْلِthe easyفَوُسِمَتْso it was labeledبِهِwith itمُعْظَمُmost of theالطَّبْعَاتِeditionsالَّتِيthatصُدِرَتْwere issuedمِنْfromهَذَاthisالْكِتَابِbook

And it has been authored by people, and perhaps they were pleased with this title because of what is in it of the rhyming style, so it was labeled with it most of the editions that were issued from this book.

فَهَلSo isكِلَاbothالْعُنْوَانَيْنِtitlesصَوَابٌcorrectأَوْorأَحَدُهُمَاone of themأَرْجَحُmore preferableمِنَthanالْآخَرِ؟the other?

So is both titles correct, or is one of them more preferable than the other?

لَمْNotيَسْمُnamedالْمُؤَلِّفُthe authorكِتَابَهُhis bookفِيinمُقَدِّمَتِهِhis introductionبَلْbutلَيْسَthere is noفِيهِin itمُقَدِّمَةٌintroductionأَصْلًاat all

The author did not name his book in his introduction, but there is no introduction in it at all.

إِذْSinceأَخَذَhe tookالْمُؤَلِّفُthe authorفِيinالْإِجَابَةِthe responseعَنْtoالسُّؤَالِthe questionالَّذِيthatوَرَدَcame to himعَلَيْهِto himرَأْسًاdirectlyحَسَبَaccording toطَرِيقَةِthe methodالْمُفَتِينَ؛of the muftis;

Since the author took the response to the question that came to him directly according to the method of the muftis;

وَلَاand notأَشَارَhe referredإِلَيْهِto itفِيinكُتُبِهِhis other booksالْأُخْرَىother

And he did not refer to it in his other books.

وَلَكِنَّButأَقْدَمَthe earliestمَنْwhoذَكَرَهُmentioned itمِنْofمُؤَلَّفَاتِهِhis worksوَهُوَand he isتَلْمِيذُهُhis studentالْحَافِظُthe HafizابْنُIbnرَجَبٍRajabرَحِمَهُmay he restاللَّهُAllahسَمَّاهُcalled it«الدَّاءُ"The Diseaseوَالْدَّوَاءُ»،and the medicine,\

But the earliest who mentioned it from his works – and he is his student, the Hafiz Ibn Rajab, may Allah rest him – called it "The Disease and The Medicine."

وَكَذَاAnd alsoمَنْwhoاعْتَمَدَreliedعَلَيْهِon himكَالْدَّاوُودِيِّlike Al-Dawoodوَابْنِand IbnالْعِمَادِAl-Imadوَغَيْرِهِمَا.and others.

And also those who relied on him like Al-Dawood and Ibn Al-Imad and others.

أَيْضًاAlsoذَكَرَهُmentioned itبِهَذَاwith thisالْعُنْوَانِtitleمَعَwithأَنَّهُthat itلَمْnotيُصْدَرْwas publishedفِي مَاin what seemsيَبْدُوto beعَنْfromذَيْلِthe tailوَالشَّوكَانِيِّand Al-Shawkaniطَبَقَاتِthe classesالْحَنْبَلَةِ.of the Hanbalis.

Also, he mentioned it with this title, even though it does not seem to be published from the tail of Al-Shawkani's classes of the Hanbalis.

وَبَيْنَAnd betweenيَدَيَّmy handsثَلاَثَthreeنُسَخٍcopiesمِنْofالْكِتَابِthe bookكُلُّهَاallنُسِخَتْwere copiedفِيinحَيَاةِthe lifetimeالْحَافِظِof the HafizابْنِIbnرَجَبٍRajab

And between my hands are three copies of the book, all of which were copied during the lifetime of the Hafiz Ibn Rajab.

وَأَقْدَمُهَاAnd the oldest of themنُسْخَةٌcopyالإِسْكُورِيَالِof Escorialالمَكْتُوبَةُwrittenسَنَةَthe yearرَجَبٍRajab

And the oldest of them is the Escorial copy written in the year of Rajab.
