كَمَاasلَعَنَهُمْHe cursed them.
As He cursed them.
وَذَكَرَAnd mentionedابْنَIbnأَبِيof Abuالدُّنْيَاthe world(۱)عَنْfromإِبْرَاهِيمَIbrahimابْنِthe son ofعَمْرٍوAmrالصَّنْعَانِيِّthe San'aniقَالَhe said:أَوْحَىrevealedاللَّهُAllahإِلَىtoيُوشَعَYoshuaابْنِthe son ofنُونٍNun:إنِّيIndeed Iمُهْلِكٌwill destroyمِنْofقَوْمِكَyour peopleأرْبَعِينَfortyأَلْفاًthousandsمِنْofخِيَارِهِمtheir bestوَسِتِّينَand sixtyأَلْفاًthousandsمِنْofشَرَارِهِمtheir worst.
And Ibn Abi Dunya mentioned, from Ibrahim ibn Amr al-San'ani, he said: Allah revealed to Yoshua ibn Nun: 'Indeed I will destroy forty thousand of your people, of their best, and sixty thousand of their worst.'
قَالَHe said:يَاOرَبِّ،Lord,هَـٰؤُلَاءِtheseالأَشْرَارِ،wicked ones,فَمَاso what aboutبِالْجَيِّدِ؟the good ones?
He said: 'O Lord, what about these wicked ones, what of the good ones?'
قَالَHe said:إنَّهُمْIndeed theyلَمْdid notيَغْضَبُواget angryبِالْغَضَبِ،at the anger,وَكَانُواand they wereيُؤَاكِلُونَهُمْeating with themوَيُشَارِبُونَهُمْand drinking with them.
He said: 'Indeed they did not get angry at the anger, and they were eating and drinking with them.'
وَذَكَرَAnd mentionedأَبُوAbuعُمَرَUmarابْنَthe son ofعَبْدِ الْبَرِّAbd al-BarعَنْfromأَبِيAbuهَزَّانَHazan(۲)قَالَ:he said:بَعَثَAllah sentاللَّهُAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Exaltedمَلَكَينِtwo angelsإِلَىtoقَرْيَةٍa villageأَنْthatتَمُرَّهَاdestroy itبِمَنْwith thoseفِيهَا.in it.
And Abu Umar Ibn Abd al-Bar mentioned from Abu Hazan: he said: 'Allah the Exalted sent two angels to a village to destroy it with those in it.'
فَوَجَدَاSo they foundفِيهَاin itرَجُلاًa manقَائِمًاstandingيُصَلِّيprayingفِيinمَسْجِدٍa mosque(۳)،فَقَالَاso they said:يَاOرَبِّ،Lord,إنَّIndeedفِيهَاin itعَبْدَكَYour servantفُلَانًاsuch and suchيُصَلِّي.is praying.
So they found in it a man standing praying in a mosque, so they said: 'O Lord, indeed in it is Your servant so-and-so praying.'
فَقَالَSo Allah said:اللَّهُAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Exaltedدَمِّرْهَا،destroy it,وَادْمِرْهُand destroy him tooمَعَهَاwith it(٤), forفَإنَّهُindeed, heمَاdoes notتَمَعَّرَturn darkوَجْهُهُhis faceفِيinقَطٍّ.any time.
So Allah the Exalted said: 'Destroy it, and destroy him too, for indeed he did not turn his face dark at any time.'
وَذَكَرَAnd mentionedالْحُمَيْدِيَّal-HumaidiعَنْfromسُفْيَانَSufyanابْنِthe son ofعُيَيْنَةَUyaynaقَالَ:he said:حَدَّثَنِيSufyan narrated to me,سُفْيَانٌSufyanابْنُthe son ofسَعِيدٍ،Said,عَنْfromمَسْعَرٍMas'arأَنْthatمَلَكًan angelأُمِرَwas commandedأَنْtoيَخْسِفَsinkقَرْيَةً،a village,فَقَالَ:so he said:يَاOرَبِّ،Lord,إِنَّIndeedفِيهَاin itفُلَانًاis so-and-soالْعَابِدَthe worshipper.
And al-Humaidi mentioned from Sufyan ibn Uyayna: he said: 'Sufyan narrated to me from Sufyan ibn Said, from Mas'ar that an angel was commanded to sink a village, so he said: 'O Lord, Indeed in it is the worshipper so-and-so.'
فَأَوْحَىSo Allah revealedاللَّهُAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Exaltedإِلَيْهِ:to him:أَنْthatبِهِwith himفَابْدَأْbeginفَإنَّهُfor indeed itلَمْdid notيَتَمَعَّرturn darkوَجْهُهُhis faceفِيinسَاعَةٍan hourقَط.at all.(٥)
So Allah the Exalted revealed to him: 'Begin with him, for indeed he did not turn his face dark at all.'
(۱)فِيinالْعُقُوبَاتِpunishments(۱۳)وَفِيand inالأَمْرِthe commandبِالْمَعْرُوفِof goodوَالنَّهْيِand the prohibitionعَنْofالْمُنْكَرِevil(۷۱)،وَعَبْدِ الْغَنِيِّand Abdul Ghaniالْمَقْدِسِيِّthe Maqdisiفِيinالأَمْرِthe commandبِالْمَعْرُوفِof goodوَالنَّهْيِand the prohibitionعَنْofالْمُنْكَرِevil(٤٣).وَفِيAnd inسَنَدِهِits narrationضَعْفٌthere is weaknessإِلَىtoإِبْرَاهِيمَIbrahimابْنِthe son ofعَمْرٍوAmrوَالْخَبَرُand the reportمِنْofأَخْبَارِthe newsأَهْلِof the peopleالْكِتَابِ.of the Book.
(1) In the punishments (13) and in the command of good and the prohibition of evil (71), and Abdul Ghani the Maqdisi in the command of good and the prohibition of evil (43). And there is weakness in its narration to Ibrahim ibn Amr, and the report is from the news of the people of the Book.
(۲)أَخْرَجَهُNarrated byابْنَIbnأَبِيof Abuالدُّنْيَاthe worldفِيinالْعُقُوبَاتِthe punishments(١٤)وَفِيand inالأَمْرِthe commandبِالْمَعْرُوفِof goodوَالنَّهْيِand the prohibitionعَنْofالْمُنْكَرِevil(٦٩)،وَابْنَand IbnوَضَّاحٍWadhahفِيinالْبِدَعِthe innovationsوَالنَّهْيِand the prohibitionعَنْofهَامِشٍthem(۲۸٦)،وَالْمَقْدِسِيُّand the Maqdisiفِيinالأَمْرِthe commandبِالْمَعْرُوفِof goodوَالنَّهْيِand the prohibitionعَنْofالْمُنْكَرِevil(٤٢).وَفِيAnd inسَنَدِهِits narrationضَعْفٌthere is weaknessإِلَىtoأَبِيAbuهَزَّانَHazanوَرَوِيَand narratedنَحْوَهُsimilar to itمَرْفُوعًاraised fromمِنْtheحَدِيثِhadithجَابِرٍJabirوَلَاand notيَصِحُّsound.انْظُرْConsiderمَجْمَعَthe collectionالزّوائدِof excess (2:270/7).
(2) Narrated by Ibn Abi Dunya in the punishments (14) and in the command of good and the prohibition of evil (69), and Ibn Wadhah in the innovations and the prohibition of them (286), and the Maqdisi in the command of good and prohibition of evil (42). And there is weakness in its narration to Abu Hazan, and a similar narration has been raised from the hadith of Jabir and is not sound. Consider the collection of excess (2:270/7).
(۳)كَذَاThusفِيinلِLزZوَالْعُقُوبَاتِand the punishmentsوَفِيand inسS:«المَسْجِدِ».'the mosque'.
(3) Thus in L and the punishments, and in S: 'the mosque'.
(٤)مَاWhatعَدَاexceptفFمَعَهُمْ».with them.'وَفِيAnd inالْعُقُوبَاتِthe punishmentsأَيْضًا:also:«مَعَهَا».'with it.'

(5) He reported Ibn Abi Dunya in the punishments (16) and in the command of good and the prohibition of evil.
