وَقَدْAndذُكِرَmentionedالإِمَامُthe ImamأَحْمَدُAhmadعَنْaboutأَبِيAbuالدَّرْدَاءَAl-Darda::اعْبُدُواWorshipاللَّهَAllahكَأَنَّكُمْas if youتَرَوْنَهُ،see Him,
And Imam Ahmad mentioned from Abu Al-Darda: Worship Allah as if you see Him,
وَعُدُّواand countأَنْفُسَكُمْyourselvesفِيamongالْمَوْتَى،the dead,
And count yourselves among the dead,
وَاعْلَمُواand knowأَنَّthatقَلِيلًاa littleيُغْنِيكُمْwill suffice youخَيْرٌbetterمِنْthanكَثِيرٍmuchيُلْهِيكُمْdistracts you.
And know that a little will suffice you better than much that distracts you.
وَاعْلَمُواAnd knowأَنَّthatالْبِرَّrighteousnessلَاdoes notيَبْلَى،wear out,
And know that righteousness does not wear out,
وَأَنَّand thatالإِثْمَsinلَاdoes notيُنْسَىget forgotten.
And that sin does not get forgotten.
وَنَظَرَAnd some lookedبَعْضُsomeالْعِبَادِof the worshippersإِلَىatصَبِيٍّ،a boy,
And some of the worshippers looked at a boy,
فَتَأَمَّلَand observedمَحَاسِنَهُ،his good features,فَأَتَىand cameفِيinمَنَامِهِ،his dream,وَقِيلَand it was saidلَهُto him :لَتَجِدَنَّSurely you will findغِبَّهَاthe consequence of itبَعْدَafterأَرْبَعِينَfortyسَنَةٍyears.
And he observed his good features, and in his dream it was said to him: Surely you will find the consequence of it after forty years.
هَذَا،This,مَعَdespiteأَنَّthatلِلذَّنْبِfor the sinنَقْدًاthere is an immediate penaltyمُعَجَّلًاthat comes quicklyلَاthat does notيَتَأَخَّرُ عَنْهُdelay.
This, despite that for the sin there is an immediate penalty that does not delay.
قَالَSaidسُلَيْمَانُSulaimanالتَّيْمِيُّ :the Taimi:إِنَّIndeedالرَّجُلَa manلَيُصِيبُwill commitالذَّنْبَthe sinفِيinالسِّرِّ،secret,فَيَصْبَحَand he will wake upوَعَلَيْهِupon himمَذَلَّتُهُhis disgrace.
Sulaiman the Taimi said: Indeed, a man will commit a sin in secret, and he will wake up upon him his disgrace.
وَقَالَAnd Yahiya saidابنson ofمُعَاذٍMuadhالرَّازِيُّ :the Razi:عَجَبْتُI was amazedمِنْatذِيone who hasعَقْلٍintellectيَقُولُsayingفِي
And Yahiya bin Muadh the Razi said: I was amazed at one who has intellect saying in
(١)(1)فِيinالزُّهْدِasceticism(٧١٦).(716).وَأَخْرَجَهُand narrated itوَكِيعٌWaki' فِيinالزُّهْدِasceticism(۱۳)(13)وَهِنَادٌWa Handفِيinالزُّهْدِasceticism(٥٠٨)(508)
(1) In asceticism (716). And Waki' mentioned it in asceticism (13) and Hand was mentioned in asceticism (508) and Abu Na’im in Halal (211/1 - 212) and others.
وَرِجَالُهُAnd their narratorsثِقَاتٌ،are trustworthy,لَكِنَّbutفِيinسَندِهِits chainانْقِطَاعٌ.there is a break.
And their narrators are trustworthy, but there is a break in its chain.
وَلَهُAnd there areطُرُقٌroutesعَنْfromأَبِيAbuالدَّرْدَاءَAl-DardaانْظُرْSeeالزُّهْدَthe asceticismلِأَبِيof AbuدَاوُدَDaud(٢٤٠).(240).
And there are routes from Abu Al-Darda, see the asceticism of Abu Daud (240).

(۳)(3)وَهِيَAnd it isحِكَايَةٌa narrationأَبِيof Abuعَبْدِ اللَّهِAbdullahأَحْمَدَAhmadابْنِson ofيَحْيَىYahyaالْجَلَاءِAl-Jala'مِنْofأَكَابِرِthe greatمَشَايِخِscholars ofالشَّامِthe Levant(١٠٦هـ)،(106 AH),وَقَدْand hasذُكِرَتْmentionedفِيinالحِكَايَةِthe narrationأَنَّهُthat heنَسِيَforgot.
(3) And it is a narration of Abu Abdullah Ahmad bin Yahya Al-Jala' from the great scholars of the Levant (106 AH), and it has been mentioned in the narration that he forgot.
الْقُرْآنَthe QuranانْظُرْSeeتَارِيخَthe historyدِمَشْقَof Damascus(٨٤/٦).(84/6).

(٤)(4)أَخْرَجَهُNarrated byابْنُIbnأَبِيAbuالدُّنْيَاthe Worldفِيinالتَّوْبَةِrepentance(۱۹٥)(195)
(4) Narrated by Ibn Abu Al-Dunya in repentance (195) and Abu Na'im in Halal (31/3) and Al-Bayhaqi in the people (6839) and its chain is authentic.
وَسَندُهُAnd its chainصَحِيحٌis authentic.(ز)(Z)
And its chain is authentic.
وَسُلَيْمَانُAnd Sulaimanابْنُson ofطَارِخَانَTarhkanالتَّيْمِيُّthe Taimiتَابِعِيٌّis a followerمِنْfromخِيَارَاتِthe bestأَهْلِof the people ofالْبَصْرَةِBasraوَكَانَand wasمِنْofالْعِبَادِthe worshippersالْمُجْتَهِدِينَ.the devoted.
And Sulaiman bin Tarhkan the Taimi is a follower from the best of the people of Basra and was one of the devoted worshippers.
انْظُرْSeeتَرْجَمَتَهُhis biographyفِيinالسِّيرِthe history(١٩٥/٦).(195/6).

وَقَدْAnd hasنُسِبَتْattributedالمُؤَلِّفُthe authorهَذَاthisالْقَوْلُsayingفِيinرَوْضَةِthe garden ofالْمُحِبِّينَthe lovers(٥٨٦)(586)
And the author has attributed this saying in the garden of the lovers (586).
هَذَا،This,وَقَدْand hasوَرَدَتْcome afterبَعْدَafterهَذِهِthisالْعِبَارَةَphraseفِيinخَبَرٍthe newsزِيَادَةٍof an additionنَصِّهَاits textوَقَالَand saidذُوthe one who hasالنُّونِAl-Nunمِنْwho hasخَانَbetrayedاللَّهَAllahفِيinالسِّرِّsecretهَتَكَhis veilسَتْرَهُremoved his coverفِيinالْعَالَمِيَّةِ.the public.
This, and there has come after this phrase an addition of the news. The one who has said, Al-Nun, who has betrayed Allah in secret and removed his cover in public.
وَلَعَلَّهَاAnd perhaps itكَانَتْwasحَاشِيَةًa marginal noteلِبَعْضِfor someالْقُرَّاءَof the readersأَقْحَمَهَاthat was insertedنَاسِخٌby a copierفِيinالْمَتْنِ.the text.
And perhaps it was a marginal note for some of the readers that was inserted by a copier in the text.
ثُمَّThenهَذَاthisمِنْis fromكَلَامِthe wordsيَحْيَىYahyaابْنِson ofمُعَاذٍMuadhالرَّازِيِّthe Raziفِيinصِفَةِthe description ofالصَّفْوَةِthe elite(٢٥٦/٢).(256/2).
Then this is from the words of Yahya bin Muadh the Razi in the description of the elite (256/2).
وَقَدْAnd hasأَثْبَتَتْaffirmedهَذِهِthisالزِّيَادَةَadditionفِيinطthe hand ofالْمَدَنِيِّthe Medinanوَأَبِيand AbuالسَّمَحِAl-Samahوَمَحْمُودٍand Mahmoudفَائِدَةًbenefitوَغَيْرِهِمَاand othersلَكِنَّbutبَعْدَafterقَوْلِthe statement ofيَحْيَىYahyaالرَّازِيِّthe Razi
And has affirmed this addition in the hand of the Medinan and Abu Al-Samah and Mahmoud and others but after the statement of Yahya the Razi!
