قَالَHe saidمُجَاهِدٌMujahid١1:: إِذَاIfوَلَّىthe tyrantالظَّالِمُthe oppressorسَعَىstrivesبِالظُّلْمِwith injusticeوَالْفَسَادِand corruptionفَيَحْبِسُthen Allah restrainsاللَّهُAllahبِذَلِكَwith thatالْقَطْرَregion،, فَيُهْلِكُand destroysالْحَرْثَthe cropsوَالنَّسْلَand the offspring،, وَاللَّهُand Allahلَاdoes notيُحِبُّloveالْفَسَادَcorruption.. ثُمَّThenقَرَأَhe recited:: ظَهَرَCorruption has appearedالْفَسَادُthe corruptionفِيinالْبَرِّthe landوandالْبَحْرِthe seaبِمَاby whatكَسَبَتْthe hands have earnedأَيْدِيthe handsالنَّاسِof the peopleأ )(1),, ثُمَّThenقَالَhe said:: أَمَّاAs forوَاللَّهِby Allahمَاnotهُوَit isبَحْرَكُمْyour seaهَذَاthis،, وَلَكِنَbutكُلُّeveryقَرْيَةٍvillageعَلَىonمَاءٍwaterجَارٍflowingفَهُوَisبَحْرٌsea.. وَقَالَAnd saidعِكْرِمَةُIkrimah:: ظَهَرَCorruption has appearedالْفَسَادُthe corruptionفِيinالْبَرِّthe landوَالْبَحْرِand the sea،, أَمَّاAs forإِنِّيIلَاnotأَقُولُsay:: بَحْرَكُمْyour seaهَذَاthis،, وَلَكِنَbutكُلِّeveryقَرْيَةٍvillageعَلَىonمَاءٍwater٢2.. وَقَالَAnd saidقَتَادَةُQatadah:: أَمَّاAs forالْبَرِّthe landفَأَهْلٌthe people ofالْعَمُودِthe column،, وَأَمَّاand as forالْبَحْرُthe seaفَأَهْلٌthe people ofالْقُرَىthe villagesوَالْرِّيفِand the countryside٣3.. قُلْتُI said:: وَقَدْAnd indeedسَمَّىnamedاللَّهُAllahتَعَالَىthe Exaltedالْمَاءَthe waterالْعَذْبَsweet٥5:: فَقَالَhe saidوَandهُوَHe isالَّذِيthe One whoمَرَجَhas releasedالْبَحْرَيْنِthe two seasهَذَاthisعَذَبٌsweetفُرَاتٌand freshوَandهَذَاthisمِلْحٌsaltyأُجَاجٌand bitter))٦6]]فِيin[[الْفُرْقَانِAl-Furqan//٥٣53]]وَلَيْسَAnd there is notفِيinالْعَالَمِthe worldبَحْرٌa seaحَلْوٌsweetوَاقِفٌstanding،, وَإِنَّمَاbut ratherهِيَthey are٧7:: الْأَنْهَارُthe riversالْجَارِيَةُflowingوَالْبَحْرُand the sea
Mujahid said: If the tyrant takes charge, he strives in injustice and corruption, then Allah restrains with that region, destroying the crops and the offspring; indeed, Allah does not love corruption. Then he recited: "Corruption has appeared on land and sea, by what the hands of people have earned." (1) Then he said: As for by Allah, it is not your sea, but every village on flowing water is a sea. Ikrimah said: Corruption has appeared on land and sea; as for me, I do not mean your sea, but every village on water. Qatadah said: As for the land, it is the people of the column, and as for the sea, it is the people of the villages and the countryside. I said: And indeed, Allah, the Exalted, named the sweet water as the sea, saying: "(and He is the One who has released the two seas; this sweet and fresh, and this salty and bitter.)" [Al-Furqan/53]. And there is not in the world a sweet standing sea; but rather, they are the flowing rivers and the sea.
