فَإنَّFor certainly,الَّذِيthe one whoلَمْdid notيَنْزِلْdescendيَعْلُوwill riseعَلَيْهِ،above him,وَلَاand notبِد.inevitably.
For certainly, the one who did not descend will rise above him, and it is inevitable.
وَحَكْمُAnd the rulingشَيْخِof SheikhالإِسْلامِIslamابْنِIbnتَيْمِيَّةَTaimiyyahبَيْنَbetweenالطَّائِفَتَيْنِthe two sects[١/٤٢][1/42]حُكْمًاa rulingمَقْبُولًاacceptable.
And the ruling of Sheikh Islam Ibn Taimiyyah between the two sects [1/42] was an acceptable ruling.
فَقَالَHe said:الْحَقُّThe truth isأَنَّthatمِنَsomeالتَّائِبِينَof the repentantsمَنْmayيَعُودَreturnإِلَىtoأَرْفَعَa higherمِنْthanدَرَجَتِهِ،his rank,وَمِنْهُمْand some of themمِنْmayيَعُودَreturnإِلَىtoمِثْلِthe sameدَرَجَتِهِhis rank (1),الْآخَرُونَand othersمِنْهُمْof themلَاdo notيَصِلُواreachإِلَىtoدَرَجَتِهِhis rank (2).
He said: The truth is that some of the repentants may return to a higher rank than his, and some of them may return to the same rank as his (1), and the others of them do not reach his rank (2).
قُلْتُI said:وَهَذَاand thisبِحَسَبِis according toقُوَّةِthe strengthالتَّوْبَةِof repentanceوَكَمَالِهَاand its perfectionوَمَاand whatأَحْدَثَتْهُit has causedالْمَعْصِيَةُthe sinلِلْعَبْدِto the servantمِنَofالذُّلِّhumilityوَالخُضُوعِand submissionوَالإِنَابَةِand turning to Godوَالحَذَرِand cautionوَالخَوْفِand fearمِنْofاللَّهِ،Allah,وَالبُكَاءِand cryingمِنَfromخَشْيَتِهِ؛His fear;
I said: And this is according to the strength of the repentance and its perfection and what the sin has caused the servant in terms of humility and submission and turning to God and caution and fear of Allah, and crying from His fear;
فَقَدْfor indeedتَقْوَىit strengthensهَذِهِtheseالأُمُورُmattersحَتَّىuntilيَعُودَthe repentant returnsالتَّائِبُto a higherإِلَىthanأَرْفَعَhis rank,مِنِand becomesدَرَجَتِهِ،better than him before the sin.وَيَصِيرَThis may be the sin in his case.بَعْدَfor indeed,التَّوْبَةِit has eliminatedخَيْرًاthe disease ofمِنْهُthe arrogance,قَبْلَand liberated him fromالْخَطِيئَةِ.his confidence in himself (3) and his deeds,
For indeed, these matters can strengthen until the repentant returns to a higher rank than his, and this may be the sin in his case, for indeed, it has eliminated the disease of arrogance,
فَإنَّهَاfor indeed itنَفَتْhas driven awayعَنْهُfrom himدَاءَthe disease ofالْعُجْبِ،arrogance,وَخَلَّصَتْهُand freed himمِنَfromثِقَتِهِhis confidence (3)بِنَفْسِهِin himselfوَأَعْمَالِهِ،and his works,وَوَضَعَتْand placedخَدَّthe cheek ofضِرَاعَتِهِhis humility andوَذِلَّهُhis submission,وَانْكِسَارَهُand his brokennessعَلَىonعَتَبَةِthe threshold ofبَابِthe door ofسَيِّدِهِhis masterوَمَوْلَاهُ،and lord,وَأَعْرَفَتْهُand made him realizeقَدْرَهَا،his magnitude,وَأَشْهَدَتْهُand made him witnessفَقْرَهُhis povertyوَضَرُورَتَهُand his needإِلَىforحِفْظِthe protection ofسَيِّدِهِhis masterلَهُ،for him,وَإِلَىand toعَفْوِهِforgivenessعَنْهُfrom Himوَمَغْفِرَتِهِand his pardon to him;
For indeed, it has driven away from him the disease of arrogance, and freed him from his confidence in himself and his deeds, and placed the cheek of his humility and submission and his brokenness on the threshold of his master's door, and made him realize his magnitude, and made him witness his poverty and his need for the protection of his master for him, and to His forgiveness of him and His pardon to him;
وَأَخْرَجَتْand has taken outمِنْfromقَلْبِهِhis heartصَوْلَةَthe pride ofالطَّاعَةِ،the obedience,وَكَسَرَتْand has brokenأَنْفَهُhis nose (from)مِنْfrom this pride.أَنْto be proud with it,يَشْمَخَto be arrogant with it,أَوْorيَتَكَبَّرَto be haughty with it,أَوْorيَرَىto seeنَفْسَهُhimselfبِهَاwith itخَيْرًاbetter thanمِنْfromغَيْرِهِ؛others;وَأَوْقَفَتْهُand has stopped himبَيْنَbetweenيَدَيthe hands ofرَبِّهِhis Lordمَوْقِفَthe position ofالْخَطَّائِينَthe wrongdoersالْمُذْنِبِينَthe sinnersنَاكِسَloweringالرَّأْسَthe headبَيْنَbetweenيَدَيthe hands ofرَبِّهِ،his Lord,مُسْتَخْيِيًاfeeling shyمِنْهُ،from Him,خَائِفًاafraidوَجَلًا،and anxious,مُحْتَقِرًاfeeling lowlyلِطَاعَتِهِ،for his obedience,مُسْتَعْظِمًاand feeling immenseلِمَعْصِيَتِهِ،for his sin,قَدْhe has recognizedعَرَفَhis ownنَفْسَهُselfبِالنَّقْصِ،as lacking,وَالذَّمِّand blame,وَرَبَّهُand his Lordمُنْفَرِدًاis uniqueبِالْكَمَالِin perfectionوَالْحَمْدِand praiseوَالْوَفَاءِ،and fulfillment,
And it has taken out from his heart the pride of obedience, and has broken his nose from arrogance, and has stopped him between the hands of his Lord in the position of the wrongdoers, with his head lowered between the hands of his Lord, feeling shy from Him, afraid and anxious, feeling lowly for his obedience, feeling immense for his sin, he has recognized his own self as lacking and blameworthy, while his Lord is unique in perfection, praise, and fulfillment,
كَمَاasقِيلَ:it was said:(E)(E)
as it was said: (E)
فَإنَّهَاfor indeed itنَفَتْhas driven awayعَنْهُfrom himدَاءَthe disease ofالْعُجْبِ،arrogance,وَخَلَّصَتْهُand freed himمِنَfromثِقَتِهِhis confidence (3)بِنَفْسِهِin himself
For indeed, it has driven away from him the disease of arrogance, and freed him from his confidence in himself.
