فِيInسَفَرٍ،travel,فَأَصَابَand struckرَجُلًاa manمِنَّاfrom usحَجَرٍ،a stone,فَشَجَّهُand wounded himفِيinرَأْسِهِ،his head,ثُمَّthenاحْتَلَمَ،he had a wet dream,فَسَأَلَand he askedأَصْحَابَهُhis companions

In travel, a stone struck a man from us, wounding him in the head. Then he had a wet dream, and he asked his companions.

(۱)(1)فَقَالَSo he said(۲)(2)

(1) So he said (2):

هَلIs thereتَجِدُونَanyone among you who findsلِيfor meرُخْصَةًpermissionفِيinالتَّيَمُّمِ؟the ritual dry ablution?

Is there anyone among you who finds permission for me in the ritual dry ablution?

قَالُوا:They said:مَاWe do notنَجِدُfind youلَكَfor youرُخْصَةً،a concession,وَأَنْتَand youتَقْدِرُare ableعَلَىonالْمَآءِthe waterفَاغْتَسِلْso bathe.فَمَاتَ.So he died.

They said: "We do not find you a concession, and you are able to use water, so bathe." So he died.

فَلَمَّاWhenقَدِمْنَاwe arrivedعَلَىatرَسُولِthe Messengerاللهِof Allah[١/٢][1/2](peace be upon him)أَخْبَرَhe informedبِذَٰلِكَof thatفَقَالَ:and he said:

When we arrived at the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), he was informed of that, and he said:

قَتَلُوهُ،"They killed him,قَتَلَهُمُmay Allah kill them!اللَّهُDid they notأَلَّاaskسَأَلُواwhen they did not know!إِذْFor the cure of ignorance is to ask.لَمْIndeed,يَعْلَمُواthey do not know!فَإِنَّمَاFor

"They killed him, may Allah kill them! Did they not ask when they did not know? For the cure of ignorance is to ask.

شِفَاءٌIndeed, it was sufficient for himالْعَيّto perform the ritual dry ablution.السُّؤَالُIt was enough for him to perform the ritual dry ablution and to apply cloth to his wound.إِنَّمَاHe was to apply a cloth over his woundكَانَand wash his entire body.يَكْفِيَهُHe was sufficientأَنْto perform the ritual dry ablution and protect his wound.يَتَيَمَّمَthat he perform the ritual dry ablution,وَيَعْصِرَor to apply,أَوْorيَعْصُبَto bandageعَلَىonجُرْحِهِhis woundخِرْقَةً،with a cloth,ثُمَّthenيَمْسَحَto wipeعَلَيْهَا،over it,وَيَغْسِلَand to washسَائِرَthe restجَسَدِهِ».of his body."

It was sufficient for him to perform the ritual dry ablution and draw a cloth over his wound, and to wipe over it, and wash the rest of his body."

فَأَخْبَرَAnd he informedأَنَّthatالْجَهْلَignorance isدَاءٌ،a disease,وَأَنَّand thatشِفَاءَهُits cure isالسُّؤَالُ.to ask.

And he informed that ignorance is a disease, and that its cure is to ask.

وَقَدAnd certainlyأَخْبَرَHe informedسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himعَنْaboutالْقُرْآنِthe Qur'anأَنَّهُthat it isشِفَاءٌa cure

And certainly He informed that the Qur'an is a cure,

(٣)،(3),فَقَالَHe said:تَعَالَىMost High:﴿﴿وَلَوْIfجَعَلْتَهُYou made itقُرْءَانًاour Qur'anأَعْجَمِيًّاnon-Arabic,لَقَالُواthey would say,لَوْلَاWhy notفُصِّلَتْit was made explicitوَأَيْنُهُand is not known to them,وَأَعْجَمِيٌّfor it is non-Arabicوَعَرَبِيٌّand Arabic.قُلْSay:هُوَIt isلِلَّذِينَfor those whoءَامَنُواbelievedهُدًىa guidanceوَشِفَاءٌand a cure,[فَصْلَتْ/[Fussilat/

(3), He said: Most High: "If You made it our Qur'an non-Arabic, they would say, 'Why it was not made explicit and is not known to them, and is it non-Arabic and Arabic?" Say: 'It is for those who have believed, a guidance and a cure,' [Fussilat/ 44].

وَقَالَ:And He said:﴿﴿وَنُنَزِّلُAnd we send downمِنَofالْقُرْءَانِthe Qur'anمَاthat whichهُوَisشِفَاءٌa cureوَرَحْمَةٌand a mercyلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَfor the believers﴾[الإِسْرَاءِ/[Al-Isra/

And He said: "And we send down of the Qur'an that which is a cure and a mercy for the believers." [Al-Isra/ 82].

(٤)(4)وَمِنْAnd fromهَٰهُنَاhereلِبَيَانِto indicateالْجِنْسِthe kindلَاnotلِلْتَّبْعِيضِ،for division,فَإِنَّforالْقُرْآنَthe Qur'anكُلَّهُis allشِفَاءٌ،a cure,كَمَاasقَالَHe saidفِيinالْآيَةِthe verseالْأُخْرَىٰthe other.

(4) And from here to indicate the kind not for division, for the Qur'an is all a cure, as He said in the other verse.

(٥).(5).فَهُوَIt isشِفَاءٌa cureلِلْقُلُوبِfor the heartsمِنْfromدَاءِthe diseaseالْجَهْلِof ignoranceوَالْشَّكِّand doubtوَالْرَّيْبِ،and uncertainty,

(5). It is a cure for the hearts from the disease of ignorance, doubt, and uncertainty,

فَلَمFor it has notيُنَزَّلْbeen sent downاللَّهُby AllahسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himمِنَfromالسَّمَاءِthe heavensشِفَاءًa cureقَطُّeverأَعْمُّgreaterوَلَاnorأَنْفَعَmore beneficialوَلَاnorأَعْظَمَgreaterوَلَاand norأَنْجَعَmore effectiveفِيinإِزَالَةِremovingالدَّاءِthe diseaseمِنْthanالْقُرْآنِ.the Qur'an.

For it has not been sent down by Allah, Glory be to Him, from the heavens a cure ever greater, nor more beneficial, nor greater, nor more effective in removing disease than the Qur'an.

(7) (1) "the companions."

(۱)(1)فَقَالَSo he saidسَاقِطٌdropped fromمِنْfromس.S.

(1) So he said dropped from S.

(۲)(2)

(2) "said.

(۳)(3) لَthat the Qur'an is a cure.أَنْالْقُرْآنَشِفَاءٌ".

(3) that the Qur'an is a cure.

وَقَدAnd certainlyأُشِيرَit has been pointedإِلَىtoهَذِهِthisالنُّسْخَةَversionفِيinحَاشِيَةِthe margin ofس.S.

And certainly it has been pointed to this version in the margin of S.

(٤)(4) لَForهَٰهُنَاhereالْجِنْسَthe kindلَاnotالتَّبْعِيضِ.division.

(4) For here the kind not division.

يَعْنِيreferring toالْآيَةَthe verseالسَّابِقَةَ.previous.

referring to the previous verse.

وَفِيAnd inالنُّسَخِthe printed editionsالْمَطْبُوعَةِ:it is printed:الْمُتَقَدِّمَةِthe previous.مَكَانَplace«الأُخْرَى».the other.

And in the printed editions: "the previous" in place of "the other."

(٦)(6) س:S:أَبْلَغَ".said, 'to the utmost."

(6) S: 'to the utmost."
