تَاجِرًا،a trader,يَتَّجِرُhe tradesبِمَالٍwith moneyلَهُfor himوَلِغَيْرِهِ،and for others,يَضْرِبُhe travelsبِهِwith itفِيin(١)(1)الْآفَاقِ،the horizons,وَكَانَand he wasنَاسِكًاpiousوَرِعًا.and devout.
A trader, he trades with money for him and for others, traveling with it in the horizons, and he was pious and devout.
فَخَرَجَSo he went out,مَرَّةً،once,فَلَقِيَهُand he met himلَصًّاa thiefمُقَنَّعًاmaskedفِيinالسِّلَاحِ،weapons,فَقَالَ لَهُ:he said to him:ضَعْPutمَاwhatمَعَكَ،you have,قَاتَلَكَ .I will kill you.
So he went out once, and he met a masked thief in weapons, and he said to him: 'Put what you have, I will kill you.'
قَالَ:He said:مَاWhatتُرِيدُdo you wantإِلَىfromدَمِي؟my blood?شَأْنُكَYour concernبِالْمَالِ.is with the money.
He said: 'What do you want from my blood? Your concern is with the money.'
قَالَ:He said:أَمَّاAs forالْمَالُthe moneyفَلِيَ،it is mine,وَلَسْتُand I do notأُرِيدُwantإِلَّاexcept forدَمَكَ.your blood.
He said: 'As for the money, it is mine, and I do not want except for your blood.'
قَالَ (٢):He said (2):أَمَّاAs forإذَاwhen(٣)(3)أَبَيْتَ،you refuse,فَذَرْنِيlet meأُصَلِّيَprayأَرْبَعَfourرَكَعَاتٍ.units of prayer.
He said (2): 'As for when you refuse, let me pray four units of prayer.'
قَالَ،He said,صَلِّPrayمَاas much asبَدَاyou wishلَكَ.to you.
He said, 'Pray as much as you wish.'
فَتَوَضَّأَ،So he performed ablution,ثُمَّthenصَلَّىhe prayed(٤)(4)أَرْبَعَfourرَكَعَاتٍ.units of prayer.
So he performed ablution, then he prayed four units of prayer.
فَإِنِّيFor I(1)(1)فَكَانَand it was(٥)(5)آخِرَthe lastسَجْدَةٍprostrationأَنْthatقَالَ:he said:يَاOوَدُودَLovingدُعَائِيhis supplicationفِيinمَنْwho،,يَاOذَاOwner ofالْعَرْشِthe Throneالْمَجِيدِ،the Majestic,يَاOفَعَّالٍ(٧)doer (7)
For I, in the last prostration, said: 'O Loving, his supplication in who, O Owner of the Majestic Throne, O doer (7).'
أَسْأَلُكَI ask Youبِعِزِّكَby Your mightالَّذِيwhichلَاnotيُرَامُ،to be resisted,وَمُلْكِكَand Your kingshipالَّذِيwhichلَاnotيُضَامُ،to be oppressed,وَبِنُورِكَand by Your lightالَّذِيwhichمَلَأَfilledأَرْكَانَthe cornersعَرْشِكَ:of Your Throne:
I ask You by Your might which is not to be resisted, and Your kingship which is not to be oppressed, and by Your light which filled the corners of Your Throne:
أَنْthatتُكَفِّينيYou spare me(٨)(8)شَرَّthe evilهَذَاof thisاللَّصِّ.thief.
that You spare me from the evil of this thief.
يَاOمُغِيثَHelperأَغِثْنِيrescue meيَاOمُغِيثَHelperأَغِثْنِيrescue me(٩)(9)ثَلاَثَthreeمَرَّاتٍ.times.
O Helper, rescue me! O Helper, rescue me! (9) three times.
فَإِذَاAnd whenهُوَheبِفَارِسٍa knightقَدْhas come,أَقْبَلَ،approached,بِيَدِهِin his handحَرْبَةً،a spear,قَدْwhichوَضَعَهَاhe has putبَيْنَbetweenأُذُنَيْthe earsفَرَسِهِ.of his horse.
And when he saw a knight approaching, with a spear in his hand, which he has put between the ears of his horse.
فَلَمَّاWhenبَصَرَhe sawبِهَhim,اللَّصَّthe thiefأَقْبَلَapproachedنَحْوَهُtoward himفَطَعَنَهُand stabbed himفَقَتَلَهُ.and killed him.
When he saw him, the thief approached toward him and stabbed him and killed him.
ثُمَّThenأَقْبَلَhe approachedإِلَيْهِhimفَقَالَ:and said:قُمْ،'Stand up,فَقَالَ:and he said:مَنْWhoأَنتَ،are you,بِأَبِيmay I be sacrificed for youأَنتَ؟you?(١٠)(10)
Then he approached him and said: 'Stand up,' and he said: 'Who are you, may I be sacrificed for you? (10)'
فَقَدFor I haveأَغَاثَنِيbeen rescued by Youاللَّهُby Allahبِكَtoday through you.الْيَوْمَ.today.
For I have been rescued by Allah through you today.
فَقَالَ:He said:أَنَاI amمَلِكٌa kingمِنْfromأَهْلِthe people ofالسَّمَاءِthe skyالرَّابِعَةِ،the fourth,دَعَوْتُI calledبِدُعَائِكَwith your supplicationالأَوَّلِ،the first,فَسَمِعْتُand I heardلِأَبْوَابِthe doors ofالسَّمَاءِthe skyقَعْقَعَةً،a clattering,ثُمَّthen
He said: 'I am a king from the people of the fourth sky, I called with your first supplication, and I heard the doors of the sky clattering, then.
