مَنْWhoيَعْرِفُknowsأَنَّهُthat heلَاdoes notيُزَاحِمُcompeteعَلَىfor الْكُبْرَىthe greatnessوَ يُؤْتَمَنُand is entrustedعَلَىwithالْمَالِmoney
Who knows that he does not compete for greatness and is entrusted with money.
مَنْWhoيَعْرِفُknowsأَنَّهُthat heلَيْسَis notلَهُfor himغَرَضٌa motiveفِيinأَخْذِtakingشَيْءٍanythingمِنْهُfrom it.
Who knows that he is not motivated to take anything from it.
وَإِذَاAnd ifائْتُمِنَhe is entrustedمِنْby oneفِيinنَفْسِهِhimselfخِيَانَةٌdeceitشَبَهٌsimilarبِالذِّئْبِto the wolfالْمُؤتَمَنِwho is trustedعَلَىwith الْغَنَمِthe sheep.
And if he is entrusted by someone who has deceit in himself, he is similar to a wolf who is trusted with the sheep.
فَلَاSo he cannotيَقْدِرُperformأَنْtoيُؤَدِّيَdeliver الْأَمَانَةَthe trustفِيinذَلِكَthat.
So he cannot perform the trust in that.
لَمَّاDue to whatفِيis inنَفْسِهِhis selfمِنْofالطَّلَبِdemandingلَمَّاwhatائْتُمِنَhe was entrusted with.
Due to what is in his self of demanding what he was entrusted with.
وَفِيAnd inالْحَدِيثِthe hadithالَّذِيthatرَوَاهُwas narrated byالإِمَامِthe ImamأَحْمَدَAhmadفِيinمُسْنَدِهِhis MusnadعَنْbyأَنَسٍAnasرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith him.
And in the hadith that was narrated by Imam Ahmad in his Musnad from Anas, may Allah be pleased with him.
قَالَHe saidكُنَّاWe wereيَوْمًاone dayجَالِسِينَsittingعِنْدَbyرَسُولِthe Messengerاللَّهِof Allah(صلى(peace be uponاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَ)and salutations).
He said, 'We were one day sitting by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
فَقَالَThen he saidسَيَطْلَعُa man will appearعَلَيْكُمupon you الْآنَnowمِنْfromهَذَاthis الْفَجِّvalleyرَجُلٌa manمِنْfromأَهْلِthe people ofالْجَنَّةِParadise.
Then he said, 'A man will appear upon you now from this valley, a man from the people of Paradise.'
قَالَHe saidفَطَلَعَThen a man appearedرَجُلٌa manمِنَfromالْأَنْصَارِthe Ansarتَنْطَفُwith a wetلِحْيَتِهِhis beardمِنْfromوُضُوئِهِthe ablutionقَدْhavingعُلِّقَتْhungنَعْلَاهُhis sandalsفِيinيَدِهِhis handالشِّمَالِleft.
Then a man appeared from the Ansar, with his beard wet from the ablution, having hung his sandals in his left hand.
فَسَلَّمَHe greetedفَلَمَّاAnd whenكَانَit was الْغَدِthe next dayقَالَthe Prophet saidالنَّبِيُّ(peace be upon him)مَثَلَsimilarlyذَلِكَthat.
He greeted, and when the next day came, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said similarly.
فَطَلَعَThen a man appearedذَٰلِكَthatالرَّجُلُmanعَلَىinمِثْلِthe sameحَالِهِcondition.
Then that man appeared in the same condition.
فَلَمَّاAnd whenكَانَit was الْيَوْمُthe third dayالثَّالِثُthe thirdقَالَthe Prophet saidالنَّبِيُّ(peace be upon him)
And when it was the third day, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said.
فَطَلَعَThen a man appearedذَٰلِكَthatالرَّجُلُmanعَلَىinمِثْلِthe sameحَالِهِcondition.
Then that man appeared in the same condition.
فَلَمَّاAnd whenقَامَhe got upالنَّبِيُّthe Prophet (peace be upon him)(صلى(peace be uponاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَ)and salutations).اَتَّبَعَهُhe followed him.
And when the Prophet (peace be upon him) got up, he followed him.
عَبْدُAbdاللَّهِAllahبْنُson ofعَمْرٍوAmrبْنُson ofالْعَاصِAl-As.
Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As.
رَضِيَmay (Allah) be pleasedاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith him.
may Allah be pleased with him.
فَقَالَHe saidإِنِّيIndeed, Iلَاحَيْتُwas in conflict withأَبِيmy father.فَأَقْسَمْتُAnd I sworeأَنْthat I will notلَاnotأَدْخُلَenterعَلَيْهِupon himثَلَاثًاfor three days.
He said, 'Indeed, I was in conflict with my father, and I swore that I will not enter upon him for three days.
فَإِنْSo ifرَأَيْتَyou seeأَنْthatتُؤْوِينِيyou could take me inإِلَيْكَto youحَتَّىuntilتَمْضِيit passesالثَّلَاثُthe three daysفَفَعَلْتَyou did.
So if you see that you could take me in until it passes the three days, do so.
قَالَHe saidنَعَمَYes.
He said, 'Yes.'
قَالَأَنَسٌ قالَرَضِيَmay (Allah) be pleasedاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith him.فَكَانَAnd he wasعَبْدُAbdاللَّهِAllahيُحَدِّثُnarratingأَنَّهُthat heبَاتَspent the nightعِندَهُwith himثَلَاثَةَthreeلَيَالٍnights.
Anas said: 'May Allah be pleased with him, and he was Abdullah narrating that he spent the night with him for three nights.
فَلَمْAnd he did notيَرَهُsee himيَقُومُget upمِنَfrom the nightاللَّيْلِthe nightشَيْئًاsomethingغَيْرَexceptأَنَّهُthat heإِذَاifتَعَارَhe woke upوَانْقَلَبَand turnedعَلَىto hisفِرَاشِهِbed,ذَكَرَhe would rememberاللَّهَAllahعَزَّthe Almightyوَجَلَّand glorified.وَكَبَّرَAnd he would sayحَتَّىuntilيَقُومَhe gets upإِلَىtoصَلَاةِthe prayer الْفَجْرِof Fajr.
And he did not see him get up from the night, except that if he woke up and turned to his bed, he would remember Allah, the Almighty, and glorified, and he would say until he would get up to the prayer of Fajr.
فَقَالَHe saidعَبْدُAbdullahغَيْرَexceptأَنِّيthat Iلَمْdid notأَسْمَعْهُhear himيَقُولُsayإِلَّاexceptخَيْرًاgood.
Abdullah said: 'Except that I did not hear him say except good.'
فَلَمَّاAnd whenفَرَغْنَاwe finishedمِنَfromالثَّلَاثِthe threeوَكَدتُand I almostأَنْthat Iأَحْقِرَdemeanعَمَلَهُhis deedقُلْتُI saidيَاOعَبْدَAbdullahلَمْdid notيَكُنْbeبَيْنِيbetween meوَبَيْنَandوَالِدِيmy fatherغَضَبٌangryوَلَاnorهِجْرَةٌmigration.
And when we finished the three, and I almost demeaned his deed, I said, 'O Abdullah, there was no anger between me and my father, nor migration.
وَلَكِنَّButسَمِعْتُI heardرَسُولَthe Messengerاللَّهِof Allah(صلى(peace be uponاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَ)and salutations)يَقُولُsayثَلَاثَthreeمَرَّاتٍtimes.
But I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say three times.
يَطْلَعُA man will appearعَلَيْكُمto youرَجُلٌa manمِنْfromأَهْلِthe people ofالْجَنَّةِParadise.
A man will appear to you from the people of Paradise.
فَطَلَعَتْThen you appearedأَنْتَyouالثَّلَاثُthreeمَرَّاتٍtimes.
Then you appeared three times.
فَأَرَدْتُSo I wantedأَنْtoآوِيَtake refugeإِلَيْكَwith youلِأَنْظُرَto seeمَاwhatعَمَلَكَyour deedsفَأَقْتَدِيَso that I could followبِذَٰلِكَthat.
So I wanted to take refuge with you to see your deeds, so that I could follow that.
فَلَمْBut I did notأَرَكَsee youتَعْمَلُperformكَثِيرًاmuchعَمَلٍdeed,فَمَاso whatالَّذِيis it thatبَلَغَreachedبِكَyouمَاwhatقَالَthe Messengerرَسُولِof Allah(صلى(peace be uponاللََّهِAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَ)and salutations)
But I did not see you perform much deed, so what is it that reached you what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said?
قَالَHe saidمَاWhatهُوَis itإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatرَأَيْتُI sawغَيْرَother thanأَنَّنِيthat Iلَاdo notأَجِدُfindعَلَىonأَحَدٍanyoneمِنَof الْمُسْلِمِينَthe Muslimsفِيinنَفْسِيmy selfغِشَاًdeceitوَلَاand notحَسَدًاenvyعَلَىonخَيْرٍgoodأَعْطَاهُthat Allah has granted him.
He said, 'What is it except what I saw other than that I do not find on anyone of the Muslims in my self deceit or envy on good that Allah has granted him.'
قَالَHe saidعَبْدُAbdullahهَذِهِThisالَّتِيthatبَلَغَتْyou reachedبِكَwith youوَهِيَand it isالَّتِيthatلَاnotنَطِيقُwe can bear.
Abdullah said: 'This is what you reached, and it is what we cannot bear.
فَقَوْلُAnd the sayingعَبْدَ اللهِof Abdullah bin Amrبْنِson ofالْعَاصِAl-As.لَهُto himهَذِهِthisالَّتِيthatبَلَغَتْyou reachedبِكَwith youوَهِيَand it isالَّتِيthatلَاnotنَطِيقُwe can bear.
And the saying of Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As to him, 'This is what you reached, and it is what we cannot bear.
يُشِيرُHe refersإِلَىtoخَلَاوَةِهِhis purityوَسَلَامَتِهِand safetyمِنْfromجَمِيعِallأَنْوَاعِkinds ofالْحَسَدِenvy.
He refers to his purity and safety from all kinds of envy.
وَبِهَذَاAnd with thisأَثْنَىAllah praisedتَعَالَىthe Most Highعَلَىon الْأَنْصَارِthe Ansar.
And with this, Allah, the Most High, praised the Ansar.
فَقَالَHe saidالْحَشْرُthe gatheringوَلَاand does notيَجِدُونَfind in themفِيinصُدُورِهِمْtheir chestsحَاجَةٌa needمِمَّاfrom whatأُوتُواthey were given.
He said, 'The gathering and they do not find in them a need from what they were given.
وَيُؤَثِّرُونَAnd they preferعَلَىoverأَنْفُسِهِمْthemselvesوَلَوْeven ifكَانَتْthere isبِهِمْwith themخَصَاصَةٌneed.
And they prefer over themselves, even if there is need with them.
أَيْThat isمِمَّاof whatأُوتِيَthey were givenإِخْوَانَهُمْtheir brothersالْمُهَاجِرُونَthe Muhajirun.
That is of what they were given, their brothers, the Muhajirun.
قَالَHe saidالْمُفَسِّرُونَThe interpreters say:لَاthey do notيَجِدُونَfindفِيinصُدُورِهِمْtheir chestsحَاجَةٌa needمِمَّاof envyحَسَدًاor hatredمِمَّاof whatأُوتِيَthey were given.
The interpreters say: 'They do not find in their chests a need of envy or hatred of what they were given.
ثُمَّThenقَالَsome sayبَعْضُهُمْsome of themمِنْfromمَالِthe wealthالْفَيْءِof the spoils.وَقِيلَAnd it was saidمِنْfromالْفَضْلِthe graceوَالتَّقْدِيمِand preference.
Then some say: 'Some of them from the wealth of the spoils, and it was said from grace and preference.
فَهُمْSo theyلَاdo notيَجِدُونَfindحَاجَةًa need.
So they do not find a need.
