بِسْمِIn the name ofاللَّهِAllahالرَّحْمَنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
وَمِمَّاAnd among that whichكَتَبَهُwas written byالشَّيْخِthe Sheikhالإِسْلَامِof Islamرَحْمَةُmay Allah have mercy on himفِيinأَمْرَاضِthe diseasesالْقُلُوبِof the heartsوَشِفَائِهَاand their healing
And among that which was written by the Sheikh of Islam, may Allah have mercy on him, in the diseases of the hearts and their healing.
الْحَمْدُAll praiseلِلَّهِis due to Allahرَبِّthe Lordالْعَالَمِينَof all the worlds
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
وَصَلَّىAnd may He blessاللَّهُAllahعَلَىuponنَبِيِّنَاour ProphetمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadوَصَحْبِهِand his companionsوَسَلَّمَand grant them peace
And may Allah bless our Prophet Muhammad and his companions and grant them peace.
قَدْIndeedذَكَرْنَاwe have mentionedفِيinغَيْرِotherمَوْضِعٍplaces
Indeed, we have mentioned in other places.
أَنَّthatصَلَاحَthe righteousnessحَالِof the stateالْإِنْسَانِof a personفِيis inالْعَدْلِjusticeكَمَاjust asأَنَّthe corruptionفَسَادُهُis inالظُّلْمِinjustice
that the righteousness of a person's state is in justice, just as the corruption is in injustice.
وَأَنَّAnd thatاللَّهَAllahسُبْحَانَهُThe ExaltedعَدْلَهُHis justiceوَخَلْقَهُand His creationلِمَاfor whatخَلَقَهُمْHe created them
And that Allah, the Exalted, and His justice and creation are for what He created them.
وَصِحَّةُAnd the healthجِسْمِهِof the bodyوَعَافِيَتُهُand its wellnessمِنْfromاعْتِدَالِthe moderationأَخْلَاطِهِof its humorsوَأَعْضَائِهِand its organsوَمَرَضِand the illnessذَلِكَof thatالِانْحِرافِdeviationوَالْمَيْلِand inclination
And the health of the body and its wellness are from the moderation of its humors and its organs and the illness of that deviation and inclination.
وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseاسْتِقَامَةُthe straightnessالْقَلْبِof the heartوَاعْتِدَالُهُand its moderationوَاقْتِصَادُهُand its economyوَصِحَّتُهُand its healthوَعَافِيَتُهُand its wellnessوَصَلَاحُهُand its righteousnessمُتَلاَزِمَةٌare interconnected
And likewise, the straightness of the heart, its moderation, its economy, its health, its wellness, and its righteousness are interconnected.
وقدAnd indeedذَكَرَAllah mentionedمَرَضَthe illnessالْقُلُوبِof the heartsوَشِفَائَهَاand their healingفِيinمَوَاضِعَplacesمِنْofكِتَابِهِHis Book
And indeed Allah mentioned the illness of the hearts and their healing in places of His Book.
وَجَاءَAnd it cameذَلِكَthatفِيinسُنَّةِthe Sunnahرَسُولِهِof His Messenger(صلى(peaceاللَّهُbe upon Allahعَلَيْهِupon Himوَسَلَّمَ)and peace)
And it came in the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace be upon Him).
كَقَوْلِهِAs His sayingتَعَالَىthe Exaltedعَنْaboutالْمُنَافِقِينَthe hypocritesالْبَقَرَةِ(the Cow)
As His saying the Exalted about the hypocrites in Surah Al-Baqarah.
فِيInقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsمَرَضٌis a diseaseفَزَادَهُمُand Allah increases themاللَّهُAllahمَرَضًاa disease
In their hearts is a disease, and Allah increases them in disease.
وَقَالَAnd He saidفَتَرَىSo you seeالَّذِينَthose whoفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsمَرَضٌis a diseaseيُسَارِعُونَthey hastenفِيهِمagainst them
And He said, "So you see those who have a disease in their hearts hasten towards them."
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَىthe Exaltedالتَّوْبَةُ(Repentance)
And He said the Exalted about Surah At-Tawbah.
وَيَشْفِيand He healsصُدُورَthe breastsقَوْمٍof a peopleمُؤْمِنِينَbelievers
And He heals the breasts of believers.
وَيَذْهَبُand He removesغَيْظَthe angerقُلُوبِهِمْof their hearts
And He removes the anger from their hearts.
وَقَالَAnd He saidيُونُسُYunus (Jonah)قَدْIndeedجَاءَتْكُمْa sermon has come to youمَوْعِظَةٌadmonitionمِنْfromرَبِّكُمْyour Lordوَشِفَاءٌand healingلِمَاfor whatفِيinالصُّدُورِthe breasts
And He said that indeed a sermon has come to you from your Lord, and healing for what is in the breasts.
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَىthe Exaltedالإِسْرَاءُ(the Night Journey)
And He said the Exalted about Surah Al-Isra.
وَنُنَزِّلُand We send downمِنَfromالْقُرْآنِthe Quranمَاwhatهُوَit isشِفَاءٌa healingوَرَحْمَةٌand mercyلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَfor the believers
And We send down from the Quran what is a healing and mercy for the believers.
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَىthe ExaltedفُصِّلَتْSurah FussilatقُلْSayهُوَIt isلِلَّذِينَfor thoseآمَنُواwho believeهُدًىguidanceوَشِفَاءٌand healing
And He said the Exalted, Surah Fussilat, "Say, it is for those who believe guidance and healing."
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَىthe Exaltedالأَحْزَابُ(the Confederates)
And He said the Exalted about Surah Al-Ahzab.
وَلَاAnd do notتَخْضَعْنَbe submissiveبِالْقَوْلِin speechفَيَطْمَعَlest the oneالَّذِيwhoفِيhasقَلْبِهِa heartمَرَضٌa diseaseوَقَالَAnd He saidالْأَحْزَابُthe Confederates
And do not be submissive in speech, lest the one who has a disease in his heart will be tempted.
لَئِنIndeed, ifلَمْthey do notيَنْتَهُواceaseالْمُنَافِقُونَthe hypocritesوَالَّذِينَand those whoفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsمَرَضٌis a diseaseوَالْمُرَجِفُونَand the ones who stir turmoilفِيinالْمَدِينَةِthe cityلَنُغْرِيَنَّكَwe will surely incite youبِهِمْagainst them
Indeed, if the hypocrites and those who have disease in their hearts and the ones who stir turmoil in the city do not cease, we will surely incite you against them.
وَقَالَAnd He saidالأَحْزَابُ(the Confederates)
And He said the Exalted the Confederates.
وَإِذَاAnd whenيَقُولُthey sayالْمُنَافِقُونَthe hypocritesوَالَّذِينَand those whoفِيinقُلُوبِهِمْtheir heartsمَرَضٌis a diseaseمَاwhatوَعَدَنَاAllah has promised usاللَّهُAllahوَرَسُولُهُand His Messengerإِلَّاexceptتَغَرُّوhe lied
And when the hypocrites and those who have a disease in their hearts say, "What Allah has promised us and His Messenger was nothing but lies."
وَقَالَAnd He saidالنَّبِيُّthe Prophet(صلى(peaceاللَّهُbe upon Allahعَلَيْهِupon Himوَسَلَّمَ)and peace)
And the Prophet (peace be upon Him) said.
هَلَاWhy notسَأَلُواaskإِذَاifلَمْthey do notيَعْلَمُواknowفَإِنَّfor indeedشِفَاءُthe healingالْعَيْof ignoranceالسُّؤَالُis to ask
Why not ask if they do not know? For indeed, the healing of ignorance is to ask.
وَقَالَAnd He saidالرَّشِيدُthe sageالْآنَnowشَفَيْتَنِيyou have healed meيَامَالِكُO Malik
And the sage said, "Now you have healed me, O Malik!"
وَفِيAnd inصَحِيحِthe authenticالْبُخَارِيِّBukhariعَنْfromإِبْنِIbnمَسْعُودَMas'ud
And in the authentic Bukhari from Ibn Mas'ud.
أَنَّthatأَحَدًاa personلَاwill notيَزَالَceaseبِخَيْرٍto be in goodnessمَاas long asاتَّقَىhe fearsاللَّهَAllahوَإِذَاand ifشَكَّhe doubtsفِيinتَفْسِيرِthe interpretationشَيْءٍof somethingسَأَلَhe should askرَجُلًاa manفَشَفَاهُand he heals him
A person will not cease to be in goodness as long as he fears Allah; and if he doubts in the interpretation of something, he should ask a man and he heals him.
وَأَوْشَكَAnd it is nearأَنْthatلَاthere will notيَجِدَfind for him.وَالَّذِيAnd the Oneلَاthere is noإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptهُوَHeوَمَاand whatذُكِرَwas mentionedاللَّهُAllahمِنَofمَرَضِthe illnessالْقُلُوبِof the heartsوَشِفَائِهَاand their healing
And it is near that he will not find for him; and the One who has no god except Him and what Allah mentioned of the illness of the hearts and their healing.
بِمَنْزِلَةٍIn the same manner asمَاwhatذُكِرَwas mentionedمِنْofمَوْتِهَاtheir deathوَحَيَاتِهَاand their lifeوَسَمْعِهَاand their hearingوَبَصَرِهَاand their sightوَعَقْلِهَاand their intellectوَصَمَمِهَاand their deafnessوَبُكْمِهَاand their mutenessوَعَمَاهَاand their blindness
In the same manner as what was mentioned of their death and their life, and their hearing, and their sight, and their intellect, and their deafness, and their muteness, and their blindness.
لَكِنButالْمَقْصُودُthe intendedمَرَضُillnessالْقَلْبِof the heartفَنَقُولُso we sayالْمَرَضُthe diseaseنَوْعَانِis of two types
But the intended illness of the heart, so we say the disease is of two types.
فَسَادُCorruptionالْحَسِّof the sensesوَفَسَادٌand corruptionالْحَرَكَةِof the natural movementالطَّبِيعِيَّةِnaturalوَمَاand whatيَتَّصِلُis connectedبِهَاto it.مِنْofالإِرَادِيَّةِthe voluntary actions.
Corruption of the senses and corruption of the natural movement and what is connected to it of the voluntary actions.
