And in the narration, indeed, I disassociate from every friend of his friendship.
وَلَوْAnd ifكُنتُI wereمُتَّخِذًاto takeمِنfromأَهْلِthe peopleالْأَرْضِof the earthخَلِيلًاa friend
And if I were to take from the people of the earth a friend.

I would have taken Abu Bakr as a friend.
وَفِيAnd inرِوَايَةٍnarrationإِنَّIndeedاللَّهَGodاَتَّخَذَنِيhas taken meخَلِيلًاa friendكَمَاasاَتَّخَذَHe tookإِبْرَاهِيمَIbrahimخَلِيلًاa friend
And in the narration, indeed, God has taken me as a friend as He took Ibrahim as a friend.
فَبَيْنَSo it is clear(صَلَّى(Peaceاللَّهُof Godعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَ)and his peace)
So it is clear (peace of God be upon him) that it is not suitable for him to take a friend from the created beings.

مَعَWithأَنَّهُalthough he(صَلَّى(Peaceاللَّهُof Godعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَ)and his peace)
Although he (peace of God be upon him) has described himself as loving people.
كَمَاAsقَالَsaidمُعَاذٌMu'adhوَاللَّهِand by Godإِنِّيindeed, Iلَأُحِبُّكَlove you.
As Mu'adh said, and by God indeed, I love you.
وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseقَوْلُهُhis sayingلِلْأَنْصَارِto the Ansar
And likewise, his saying to the Ansar.
وَكَانَAnd there wasزَيْدٌZaidابْنُson ofحَارِثَةَHarithaحُبٌّthe loveرَسُولِof the Messengerاللَّهِof God(صَلَّى(Peaceاللَّهُof Godعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَ)and his peace)
And there was Zaid bin Haritha, the love of the Messenger of God (peace of God be upon him).
وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseابْنُهُhis sonأُسَامَةُUsamaحُبُّهُhis love.
And likewise, his son Usama, his love.
وَأَمْثَالُAnd similarذَلِكَto that
And similar things to that.
وَقَالَAnd he saidلَهُto himعَمْرٌوAmrابْنُson ofالْعَاصِAl-As,أَيُّwhichالنَّاسِof the peopleأَحَبَّتَdo you loveإِلَيْكَto youقَالَHe saidعَائِشَةَAisha.

He said, 'So who of the men?' He said, 'Her father.'

And he said to Fatima, may God be pleased with her, 'Don't you love what I love?'
قَالَتْShe saidبَلَىIndeed, yes.قَالَHe saidفَأَحِبِّيThen loveعَائِشَةَAisha.
She said, 'Indeed, yes.' He then said, 'Then love Aisha.'
وَقَالَAnd he saidلِلْحَسَنِto Al-HasanاللَّهُمَّO Godإِنِّىindeed, Iأُحِبُّهُlove him.فَأَحِبُّهُSo love him.
And he said to Al-Hasan, 'O God, indeed, I love him. So love him.'
وَأَحِبَّAnd loveمَنwhoيُحِبُّهُloves him.وَأَمْثَالُAnd similarهَذَاto thisكَثِيرٌis many
And love those who love him, and similar instances of this are many.
فَوَصَفَHe describedنَفْسَهُhimselfبِمَحَبَّةٍwith loveالْأَشْخَاصِfor the people.
He described himself with love for the people.
وَقَالَAnd he saidإِنِّىIndeed, Iأَبْرَأُdisassociateإِلَىtoكُلِّeveryخَلِيلٍfriendمِنْfromخِلَّتِهِhis friendship.
And he said, 'Indeed, I disassociate from every friend of his friendship.'
وَلَوْAnd ifكُنتُI wereمُتَّخِذًاto takeمِنfromأَهْلِthe peopleالْأَرْضِof the earthخَلِيلًاa friend.
And if I were to take from the people of the earth a friend.
لَاتَّخَذْتُI would have takenأَبَاAbuبَكْرٍBakrخَلِيلًاa friend.
I would have taken Abu Bakr as a friend.
فَاعْلَمْSo knowأَنَّthatالْخِلَّةَthe friendshipأَخْصُّis more specialمِنْthanمُطْلَقِthe generalالْمَحَبَّةِlove
So know that the friendship is more special than the general love.
بِحَيْثُin such a wayهِيَthat itمِنis fromكَمَالِهَاits completenessوَتَخَلَّلَهَاand its mixingالْحُبُّwith love
In such a way that it is from its completeness and its mixing with love.
حَتَّىuntilيَكُونَit isالْمَحْبُوبُthe belovedبِهَاby itمَحْبُوبًاbelovedلِذَاتِهِfor its own sakeلَاnotلِشَيْءٍfor anythingآخَرَelse.
Until the beloved by it is beloved for its own sake, not for anything else.
إِذًاIndeedالْمَحْبُوبُthe belovedلِشَيْءٍfor somethingغَيْرِهِelseهُوَisمُؤَخَّرٌdelayedفِيinالْمَحَبَّةِloveعَنْfromذَلِكَthatالْغَيْرِelse.
Indeed, the beloved for something else is delayed in love from that else.
وَمِنْAnd fromكَمَالِهَاits completenessلَاdoes notتَقْبَلُacceptالشِّرْكَةَpartnershipوَالْمُزَاحَمَةَand competitionلِتَخَلُّلِهَاfor its mixingالْحُبُّwith love.
And from its completeness does not accept partnership and competition for its mixing with love.
فَفِيهَاSo in itكَمَالٌis the completenessالتَّوْحِيدِof monotheismوَكَمَالٌand the completenessالْحُبِّof love.
So in it is the completeness of monotheism and the completeness of love.
وَإِنَّAnd indeedالْخِلَّةَthe friendshipأَيْضًاalsoتُنَافِيcontradictsالْمُزَاحَمَةَcompetition
And indeed, the friendship also contradicts competition.
وَتَتَقَدَّمُAnd it precedesالْغَيْرَothersبِحَيْثُin such a wayيَكُونَit isالْمَحْبُوبُthe belovedمَحْبُوبًاbelovedلِذَاتِهِfor its own sakeلَاnotيُزَاحِمُهُbe competed withفِيهَاin itغَيْرٌothers.
And it precedes others in such a way that the beloved is beloved for its own sake and is not competed with in it by others.
وَهَذِهِAnd thisمَحَبَّةٌloveلَاdoes notتُصَلِحُbe suitableإِلَّاexceptلِلَّهِfor God.فَلَاSo notيَجُوزُpermittedأَنْtoيُشَارَكَbe associatedغَيْرُهُothersفِيمَاin whatيَسْتَحِقُّهُis due to him.
And this love does not be suitable except for God. So it is not permitted to be associated by others in what is due to Him.
وَهُوَAnd He isمَحْبُوبٌbelovedلِذَاتِهِfor His own sake.وَكُلُّAnd allمَاwhatيُحِبُّHe lovesغَيْرَهُothersإِذَاifكَانَwasمَحْبُوبًاbelovedبِحَقٍّtruly.
And He is beloved for His own sake. And all what He loves from others, if it was truly beloved.
فَإِنَّمَاThen trulyيُحِبُّlovesلِأَجْلِهِfor His sake.وَكُلُّAnd allمَاwhatأَحَبَّHe lovesلِغَيْرِهِfor others.فَمَحَبَّتُهُThen His loveبَاطِلَةٌis invalidفِيinالدُّنْيَاthe world.
Then truly loves for His sake. And all what He loves for others, then His love is invalid in the world.
وَالدُّنْيَاAnd the worldمَلْعُونَةٌis cursed.مَلْعُونٌCursedمَاis whatفِيهَاin itإِلَّاexceptمَاwhatكَانَwasلِلَّهِfor God.تَعَالَىthe Exalted.
And the world is cursed. Cursed is what is in it except what was for God the Exalted.
فَإِذَاSo ifكَانَتit wasالْخِلَّةُthe friendshipكَذَلِكَsuch thatفَمَنthen whoالْمَعْلُومُis knownأَنَّthatمَنْfromأَنْكَرَdeniesأَنَّthatيَكُونَthere beاللَّهُGodمَحْبُوبًاbelovedلِذَاتِهِfor His own sake.
So if the friendship is such that then who is known that he denies that there be God beloved for His own sake.
يُنْكِرُhe deniesمُخَالَطَتَهُHis friendshipوَكَذَلِكَand likewiseأَيْضًاalsoإِنَّifأَنْكَرَdeniesمَحَبَّتَهُHis loveلِأَحَدٍfor oneمِنْofعِبَادِهِHis servants.
He denies His friendship, and likewise, if he denies His love for one of His servants.
فَقَدْThen heأَنْكَرَdeniesأَنْthatيَتَّخِذَهُHe take himخَلِيلًاas a friend.بِحَيْثُin such a wayيُحِبُّthat He lovesالرَّبَّthe Lord.وَيُحِبُّهُand loves Himالْعَبْدَthe servant.عَلَىin accordance withأَكْمَلَthe most complete.مَاwhatيَصْلُحُis suitableلِلْعِبَادَةِfor worship.
Then he denies that He takes him as a friend in such a way that the Lord loves him and he loves the servant in accordance with what is most complete for worship.
وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseتَكَلُّمُهُHis speechلِمُوسَىto Musaأَنْكَرَهُthey denied it.لِإِنْكَارِهِمFor their denialأَنْthatيَقُومَHe hasبِهِwith Him.صِفَةٌa descriptionمِنْofالصِّفَاتِthe attributes.
And likewise, His speech to Musa they denied for their denial that He has a description of the attributes.
أَوorفِعْلٌan actionمِنْofالْأَفْعَالِthe actions.
Or an action from the actions.
فَكَمَاSo asيُنْكِرُونَthey denyأَنْthatيَتَّصِفَHe be describedبِحَيَاةٍwith lifeأَوorقُدْرَةٍpowerأَوorعِلْمٍknowledgeأَوorأَنْthatيَسْتَوِيَHe becomes equalأَوorأَنْthatيَجِيءَHe comes.
So as they deny that He be described with life or power or knowledge or that He becomes equal or that He comes.
فَكَذَلِكَSo likewiseيُنْكِرُونَthey denyأَنْthatيَتَكَلَّمَHe speaks.أَوorيُكَلِّمُtalks.فَهَذَاThisحَقِيقَةٌis the realityقَوْلُهُمْof their statement.
So likewise, they deny that He speaks or talks. This is the reality of their statement.
الْبَقَرَةُThe Cow.كَذَلِكَLikewiseقَالُواthey said.الَّذِينَThose whoمِنْfromقَبْلِهِمbefore themمِثْلَsimilarقَوْلِهِمto their statement.تَشَابَهَتِThey resembledقُلُوبُهُمْtheir hearts.لَكِنْButلَمَّاwhenكَانَتit wasالْإِسْلَامُIslamظَاهِرًاmanifest.
The Cow: Likewise they said. Those who were before them, similar to their statement. Their hearts resembled, but when Islam appeared.

And the Quran was recited. They cannot deny it for those who appeared Islam.
يُلْحِدُونَThey distort.فِيinأَسْمَاءِnames.اللَّهِof God.وَيُحَرِّفُونَAnd they twist.الْكَلِمَthe wordsعَنْfromمَوَاضِعِهِtheir places.فَتَأَوَّلُواSo they interpret.
They distort in the names of God and twist the words from their places. So they interpret.
مَحَبَّةُThe loveالْعِبَادِof the servantsلَهُto Him.بِمُجَرَّدِby mereمَحَبَّتِهِمtheir loveلِطَاعَتِهِfor His obedience.وَالْتَّقَرُّبِand approachإِلَيْهِto Him.
The love of the servants to Him is by mere their love for His obedience and approach to Him.
وَهَذَاAnd thisجَهْلٌis ignorance.عَظِيمٌgreat.فَإِنَّIndeedمَحَبَّةُthe loveالْمُتَقَرِّبِينَof those who draw closer.إِلَىtoالْمُتَقَرِّبِthose who draw closer.
And this is great ignorance. Indeed, the love of those who draw closer to Him.
