And they came to the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, and asked him about nine verses.

And he said to them, the Messenger of God: Do not associate anything with God, do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not kill the soul which is forbidden by right, do not walk with an innocent person to someone with authority to kill him, do not practice magic, do not eat usury, do not accuse the chaste falsely, do not turn away (flee) on the day of battle, and upon you especially the Jews to not count in the Sabbath.
قَالَHe said::فَقَبَّلَاSo they both kissedيَدَيْهِhis handsوَرِجْلَيْهِand feetوَقَالَاand said::نَشْهَدُWe bear witnessأَنَّكَthat you areنَبِيٌّa prophet
So they both kissed his hands and feet and said: We bear witness that you are a prophet.

He said: So what prevents you from following me?

They said: Indeed, David, peace be upon him, called his Lord that there would not cease from his descendants a prophet, and we fear that if we follow you, the Jews will kill us and the prophets, peace be upon them, are all purified from minor sins, major sins, disbelief, and disgraceful acts)

Meaning, before prophethood and after it, indeed there were among them slips and mistakes.

An example of slips is the eating of Adam from the tree, and an example of mistakes is the killing of a man from the people of Pharaoh by Moses, for he did not intend to kill him at all, rather he intended to strike him with his hand as a believer in the world.

For indeed Allah, Most High, does not waste it, but accepts it from him and rewards him for it. And whatever was of the evils less than the association and disbelief, and the owner of it did not repent from it until he dies a believer, then indeed he is in the will of Allah, Most High.
