اليَقِينُcertaintyوَعينٌand the eyeاليَقِينِof certaintyوَحَقٌand حقاليَقِينِof certaintyفَعَلِمَThus the knowledgeاليَقِينِof certaintyمَاwhatيَحْصُلُis obtained
Certainty, the eye of certainty, and the right of certainty. Thus the knowledge of certainty is what is obtained through mention and observation.
وَعينٌAnd the eyeاليَقِينِof certaintyمَاwhatيَحْصُلُis obtainedعَنْaboutالْعِيَانِthe observation
And the eye of certainty is what is obtained about observation.
وَحَقُّAnd the rightاليَقِينِof certaintyاجْتِمَاعُهَا،is their gathering,وَالأَوَّلُand the firstلِعَوَامِّfor the commonالعُلَمَاءِscholarsوَالثَّانِيand the secondلِلْخَوَاصِّis for the specialالعُلَمَاءِscholarsوَالأَوْلِيَاءِ،and the saints,وَالثَّالِثُand the thirdلِلْأَنْبِيَاءِfor the prophetsعَلَيْهِمُupon themالسَّلاَمُ،peace,وَالتَّوَكُّلُand relianceهُوَisالثِّقَةُthe trustبِمَاin whatعِندَis withاللَّهِGodتَعَالَىExaltedوَالْيَأْسُand despairعَمَّabout whatفِيis inأَيْدِيthe handsالنَّاسِ.(of) people.
And the right of certainty is their gathering, the first is for the common scholars, the second is for the special scholars and saints, and the third is for the prophets, peace be upon them; and reliance is the trust in what is with God, Exalted, and despair about what is in the hands of people.
وَالْمَحَبَّةُAnd loveهِيَisاللُّغَةُthe languageالْمَوَدَّةُ،of affection,وَفِيand inالإِصْطِلَاحِthe terminologyمَحَبَّةُloveالْعَبْدِof the servantاللَّهِGodتَعَالَىExaltedهِيَis
And love is the language of affection, and in the terminology, the love of the servant of God is a state found in his heart that cannot be described with a description nor defined by a limit clearer or closer to understanding than the word love.
وَقَالَAnd someبَعْضُof theالمُشَايِخِsheikhsمَحَبَّةُloveالْعَبْدِof the servantاللَّهِof GodتَعَالَىExaltedهِيَisالتَّعْظِيمُthe glorificationوَإِيثَارٌand preferenceالرِّضَاof pleasureوَقِلَّةٌand littleالصَّبْرِthe patienceعَنْaboutاللَّهِGodوَكَثْرَةٌand muchالِاسْتِئْنَاسِof seeking comfortبِذِكْرِهِwith remembering Himدَائِمًاalways.
And some of the sheikhs said: The love of the servant of God is glorification, preference for His pleasure, a little patience about God, and much seeking comfort in remembering Him always.
وَالرِّضَاAnd contentmentسُرُورٌis the happinessالْقَلْبِof the heartبِمُرِّwith the bitternessالْقَضَاءِof fateالْمَشْئُودِthat has been decreedمِنَfromالْمَصَائِبِthe calamitiesوَالْبَلَاءِand the afflictions.
And contentment is the happiness of the heart with the bitterness of the fate that has been decreed from the calamities and afflictions.
وَالخَوْفُAnd fearتَوَقُّعٌis the expectationحُلُولِيٌّof the arrivalمَكْرُوهٍof the hateأَوْorفَوَاتٌfailureمَحْبُوبٍof the beloved.
And fear is the expectation of the arrival of the disliked or the failure of the beloved.
وَالرَّجَاءُAnd hopeفِيinاللُّغَةِthe languageالأَمَلُ،is hope,وَفِيand inالإِصْطِلَاحِthe terminologyتَعَلُّقٌthe attachmentالْقَلْبِof the heartبِحُصُولِwith the obtainingمَحْبُوبٍof the belovedفِيinالْمُسْتَقْبَلِ.the future.
And hope in the language is hope, and in the terminology, it is the attachment of the heart with the obtaining of the beloved in the future.
وَاعْلَمْAnd knowأَنْthatالرَّجَاءَhopeلَاdoes notيَتَحَقَّقُrealizeإِلَّاexceptمَعَwithالخَوْفِthe fear
And know that hope does not realize except with fear.
كَمَاAsأَنْthatوَلَاand does notكَيْفِيَّةٌa mannerوَلَيْسَand is notقُرْبٌproximityاللَّهِof GodتَعَالَىExaltedوَلَاand does notبُعْدٌdistance from Himمِنْfromطَرِيقٍwayطُولِlengthالمَسَافَةِof the distanceوَقَصْرِهَاand its shortness butوَلَكِنْbutعَلَىonمَعْنَىthe meaningالْكَرَامَةِof honorوَالْهَوَانِand humiliation,وَالْمُطِيعُand obedience
As that there is no manner, nor is there proximity to God, Exalted, nor distance from Him by a way of length and shortness, but it is on the meaning of honor and humiliation, and obedience.
