وَandبِسْمِin the name ofاللَّهِAllahالرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
قَالَsaidالسَّيِّدُthe gentlemanالإِمَامُthe ImamأَبُوAbuالْحَسَنِAl-HasanعَلِيٌّAliبْنُson ofإِسْمَاعِيلَIshmaelالأَشْعَرِيِّthe Ash'ariالْبَصْرِيِّthe Basriرَحِمَهُmay Allah have mercy on him
The gentleman Imam Abu Hasan Ali ibn Ishmael al-Ash'ari al-Basri, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
الْحَمْدُAll praiseلِلَّهِis due to Allahالْواحِدِthe Oneالْعَزِيزِthe Almightyالْمَاجِدِthe Majestic
All praise is due to Allah, the One, the Almighty, the Majestic.
الْمُتَفَرِّدُthe Uniqueبِالتَّوحِيدِin His Onenessوَالْمُتَمَجِّدُand the Glorifiedبِالتَّمْجِيدِin GloryالَّذِيWhoلَاnoتَبْلُغُهُcan reach Himصِفَاتُattributesالْعِبَادِof the servantsلَيْسَthere is notلَهُfor Himمُنَازِعٌany rivalوَلَاnorنَدِيدٌany equal
Who is the Unique in His Oneness and the Glorified in Glory, to Whom no attributes of His servants can reach; He has no rival nor equal.
وَهُوَand He isالْمُبْدِئُthe Originatorوَالْمُعِيدُand the Restorerالْفَعَّالُthe Doerلِمَاof whatيُرِيدُHe willsجَلَّFar aboveعَنْfromاتِّخَاذِtakingالصَّاحِبَةِpartnersوَالأَوْلَادِand offspringوَتَقَدَّسَand He is pure
And He is the Originator and the Restorer, the Doer of what He wills. Far above is He from taking partners and offspring, and He is pure from mingling with kinds and filth.
لَيْسَتْThere is noلَهُfor Himصُورَةٌimageتُقَالُto be saidوَلَاnorحَدٌّlimitيُضْرَبُcan be struckلَهُfor Himالْمَثَلُexample
There is no image that can be said for Him, nor any limit that can be struck as an example for Him.
لَمْHe has notيَزَلْceaseصِفَاتُهُHis attributesأَبَدًاeverقَدِيرًاpowerfulوَلَاnorيَزَالُHe continues to beعَالِمًاthe All-Knowingخَبِيرًاthe All-Aware
He has not ceased to be powerful in His attributes and He continues to be the All-Knowing, the All-Aware.
اسْتَوْفَىHe has encompassedالأَشْيَاءَthe thingsعِلْمَهُin His knowledgeوَنَفَذَتْand His will has reachedفِيهَاin themإِرَادَتُهُHis willوَلَمْand has notتَغِبَّbe absentعَنْهُfrom Himخَفِيَّاتُhiddenالأُمُورِmatters
He has encompassed all things in His knowledge, and His will has reached them, and nothing hidden matters have been absent from Him.
وَلَمْAnd has notتَغَيَّرْهُchange Himسَوَائِفُthe occurrencesصُرُوفِof the timesالدُّهُورِeras
And has not changed by the occurrences of the times and eras.
وَلَمْAnd has notيُلْحَقْهُbe followed byفِيinخَلْقِcreationشَيْءٍthingمِمَّاof that whichمَخْلُوقٌis created
And has not been followed in creation by anything that is created.
