He said: Do you feel secure from Him who is in the sky, because He is established on the Throne which is above the heavens? And everything that is above is a sky. So the Throne is the highest of the heavens. And when he said: Do you feel secure from Him who is in the sky, he does not mean all the heavens, but he intended the Throne which is the highest of the heavens. Do you not see that Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, mentioned the heavens and said: 'And He made the moon in them a light'? And He did not mean that the moon fills all of them or that it is in all of them. And we see the Muslims all raising their hands when they pray towards the sky because Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, is established on the Throne which is above the heavens. If it were not for the fact that Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, is on the Throne, they would not raise their hands towards the Throne as they do not lower them when they pray to the earth. And there are those who say from the Mu'tazilites, the Jahmiyyah, and the Haruriyyah that the saying of Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, 'The Most Gracious has established Himself on the Throne' means that He has overpowered and owned and subdued, and that Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, is in every place. And they denied that Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, would be on His Throne as the people of truth say, and they took the establishment to mean power. If this was as they mentioned, there would be no difference between the Throne and the earth. For God, the Exalted, is capable of them and of the restrooms and of everything that is in the world. If Allah were established on the Throne in the sense of overpowering, then He, the Exalted and Majestic, is overpowering everything.
