The prophets or among those who have not been testified by the prophets for Paradise, it is not permissible for you to say this in Paradise except with the condition that you say: If this is on faith, then he is in Paradise. Similarly, if the one referred to is among those whom the book has stated to be from the people of the Fire, then it is permissible for you to conclude that he is in the Fire; otherwise, with the condition that Abu Hanifa may Allah be pleased with him said, 'Whoever believes in all that he is commanded except that he says, 'I do not know whether Moses and Jesus, peace be upon them, are of the messengers or not,' he disbelieves.' This is because he denied the text. Abu Hanifa said, 'Whoever says, 'I do not know whether Allah is in the sky or on the earth,' he has disbelieved.' This is because he, in this way, assumes that He has a place, thus he would be a polytheist. Allah, the Most High, said: 'The Most Merciful has established upon the Throne.' If he says, 'I say by this verse, but I do not know where the Throne is; in the sky or on the earth,' then he has also disbelieved. This all returns to the first meaning in truth, for if he says, 'I do not know whether the Throne is in the sky or on the earth,' it is as if he said, 'I do not know whether Allah, the Most High, is in the sky or on the earth.' The jurist Abu Al-Layth, may Allah have mercy on him, said: The scholars differed regarding this matter. The Karamiyyah and those who resemble them say that Allah is upon the Throne in a spatial height, and that the Throne has a resting place, and they describe Him as descending, coming, and going.'
