ٱلْمُلحِدِينَthe atheistsٱلَّذِينَwhoجَعَلُواmadeٱلْقُرْآنَthe Quranعُضَيْنَpartialفَتَرَىso you seeأَنَّthatٱلْجَعْلَthe makingهَـٰذِهِthisهُنَاhere
The atheists who made the Quran partial, so you see that the making here is for the creation.
وَقَالَAnd he said::«“وَجَعَلُواAnd they madeٱلْمَلَـٰئِكَةَthe angelsٱلَّذِينَwhoهُمْtheyعِبَادَservantsٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِof the Most Mercifulإِنَاثًاfemales
And he said: 'And they made the angels who are the servants of the Most Merciful females.'
وَقَالَAnd he said::«“وَجَعَلُواAnd they madeلَهُfor Himشُرَكَاءَpartners
And he said: 'And they made partners for Him.'
وَٱلدَّلِيلُAnd the evidenceعَلَىonمَاwhatقُلْنَاwe saidأَنَّهُthat itلَوْifجَعَلَmadeٱلْكَلَامَthe speechمُحْدَثًاnewly createdلَجَازَit would be permissibleٱلْخَرَسَthe dumbnessعَلَيْهِupon himقَبْلَbeforeإِحْدَاثِcreatingٱلْكَلَامِthe speechوَٱلْأَخْرَسُand the muteعَاجِزٌis incapableعَنْofأَنْto beيَكُونَbeingأَمِيرًاa leaderفَكَيْفَSo howيَصْلُحُcan it fitأَنْto beيَكُونَbeingإِلَهًاa god
And the evidence for what we said is that if the speech were made newly created, it would be permissible for the dumbness to be upon him before creating the speech, and the mute is incapable of being a leader, so how can it fit to be a god?
فَإِنْIfقِيلَit is saidٱلْمَكْتُوبُwhat is writtenفِيinٱلْمَصَاحِفِthe manuscriptsمَاwhatهُوَisقُلْنَاwe saidهُوَit isكَلَامٌthe speechٱللَّهُGodتَعَالَىٰExaltedوَكَذَٰلِكَAnd likewiseٱلْمَقْرُوءُthe readفِيinٱلْمَحَارِيبِthe prayer nichesوَٱلْمَحْفُوظُand the preservedفِيinٱلْحَنَاجِرِthe throatsوَلَـٰكِنَButٱلْحُرُوفَthe lettersوَٱلْهَجَآءَand the spellingوَٱلْأَكْوَانَand the creationsوَٱلصَّوْتَand the soundكُلَّهَاallمَخْلُوقَةٌcreated
If it is said, 'What is written in the manuscripts?' we say it is the speech of God, Exalted. And likewise, what is read in the prayer niches and preserved in the throats, but the letters, the spelling, the creations, and the sound are all created.
وَكَلَامُAnd the speechٱللَّهُof GodتَعَالَىٰExaltedلَاdoes notصَوْتٌsoundفِيهِin itوَلَاnorنَغْمَةٌmelodyوَلَاnorحُرُوفٌlettersوَلَاnorهَجَاءٌspellingوَعَنْAnd aboutهَـٰذَاthisاحْتَرَزَتْprotectedمَشَايِخُthe scholars(سَمَارْقَنْد)(Samarkand)فَقَالُواso they said::ٱلْقُرْآنُthe Quranكَلَامٌspeechٱللَّهُof GodتَعَالَىٰExaltedغَيْرَnotمَخْلُوقٌcreatedوَلَـٰكِنْbutلَاnotيَقَعُfoundعَلَىonٱلْحُرُوفِthe lettersوَٱلْهَجَآءَand the spellingوَٱلْكُونِand the universe
And the speech of God, Exalted, is not created, but it does not occur on the letters, the spelling, and the universe.
وَقَالَتْAnd she saidٱلْأَشْعَرِيَّةُthe Ash'aritesمَاwhatفِيinٱلْمُصْحَفِthe manuscriptلَيْسَis notبِكَلَامٍthe speechٱللَّهِof GodتَعَالَىٰExaltedوَإِنَّمَاbutهُوَit isعِبَارَةٌan expressionعَنْofكَلَامِthe speechٱللَّهِof GodتَعَالَىٰExaltedحِكَايَةٌnarrationعَنْهُabout itوَعَنْAnd aboutهَـٰذَاthisجَوَّزُواpermittedإِحْرَاقَburningمَاwhatفِيinٱلْمَصَاحِفِthe manuscriptsقَالَتْshe said::لَأَنَّbecauseٱلْكَلَامَthe speechصِفَتُهُits attributeوَٱلصِّفَةُand the attributeلَاdoes notتَزَايلُseparateعَنْfromٱلْمَوْصُوفِthe describedإِلَّاexcept
And the Ash'arites said: 'What is in the manuscript is not the speech of God, Exalted; rather, it is an expression of the speech of God, Exalted.' They permitted the burning of what is in the manuscripts, because the speech is its attribute, and the attribute does not separate from the described except.
إِلَّاexceptأَنَاweنَقُولُsayهَـٰذَاthisٱلْهَوَسُthe madnessمِنْfromنَفْسٍthe sameٱلْأَشْعَرِيَّةِthe Ash'aritesأَكْثَرُmoreمِنْfromهَوَسٍthe madnessٱلْمُعْتَزِلَةِthe Mu'tazilitesلَأَنَّbecauseٱلْمَعْدُومَthe nonexistentمَعْلُومٌknownبِعِلْمِby knowledgeٱللَّهِof GodتَعَالَىٰExaltedأَفْتَرَىIs it thoughtأَنَّthatصِفَةُthe attributeٱلْعِلْمِof knowledgeزَالَةٌis not applicableبِكَوْنِby beingٱلْمَعْدُومَthe nonexistentمَعْلُومًاknownفَكَذَٰلِكَSimilarlyٱلْكَلَامَthe speechلَاdoes not٣٥35
Except that we say this madness from the same Ash'arites is more than the madness of the Mu'tazilites, because the nonexistent is known by the knowledge of God, Exalted; is it thought that the attribute of knowledge is not applicable by being the nonexistent known? Similarly, the speech does not.
