Page 54

وَٱلْقَدْرُand the destinyخَيْرُهُits goodوَشَرُّهُand its evilمِنْis fromٱللَّهِAllahتَعَالَىٰthe Most High

And the destiny, its good and evil, is from Allah the Most High.

قَالَsaidٱلْمُصنِّفُthe authorأَبُوAbuحَنِيفَةَHanifaرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedٱللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith him

The author Abu Hanifa, may Allah be pleased with him, said.

وَٱلْإِقْرَارُAnd the acknowledgmentلَاnotيَكُونُbeوَحْدَهُaloneإِيمَانًاfaithلَأَنَّهُbecause itلَوْifكَانَwereإِيمَانًاfaithلَكَانَthey would beٱلْمُنَافِقُونَthe hypocritesكُلُّهُمْall of themمُؤْمِنِينَbelievers

And the acknowledgment alone is not faith, because if it were faith, then all the hypocrites would be believers.

وَكَذَٰلِكَAnd likewiseٱلْمَعْرِفَةُthe knowledgeوَحْدَهَاaloneلَاnotتَكُونَbeإِيمَانًاfaithلَأَنَّهَاbecause itلَوْifكَانَتْwasإِيمَانًاfaithلَكَانَتْthey would beأَهْلَthe peopleٱلْكِتَابِof the Bookكُلُّهُمْall of themمُؤْمِنِينَbelievers

And likewise, the knowledge alone is not faith, because if it were faith, then all the people of the Book would be believers.

قَالَsaidٱللَّهُAllahتَعَالَىٰthe Most Highفِيinحَقِّthe right ofٱلْمُنَافِقِينَthe hypocritesوَٱللَّهُand Allahيَشْهَدُwitnessesأَنَّthatٱلْمُنَافِقِينَthe hypocritesلَكَاذِبُونَare liars

Allah the Most High said regarding the hypocrites: 'And Allah witnesses that the hypocrites are liars.'

أَقُولُI sayأَيthat isفِيمَاregarding whatأَضْمَرُوهُthey concealedمُخَالِفًاcontrary toلِمَاto whatقَالُواthey saidكَذَاthusفِيinتَفْسِيرِthe interpretationٱلْجَلَالَيْنِof Al-Jalalayn

I say, that is regarding what they concealed contrary to what they said thus in the interpretation of Al-Jalalayn.

وَفِيAnd inٱلْقَامُوسِthe dictionaryنَافَقَhypocriteفِيinٱلدِّينِthe religionأَيthat isسَتَرَconcealedكُفْرَهُhis disbeliefوَأَظْهَرَand showedإِيمَانَهُhis faithوَيَأْتِيand comesزِيَادَةٌadditionalإِيضَاحٌclarification

And in the dictionary, it says 'hypocrite in religion' means concealing his disbelief and showing his faith, and there comes additional clarification.

قَالَhe saidوَقَالَand saidٱللَّهُAllahتَعَالَىٰthe Most Highفِيinحَقِّthe right ofأَهْلُthe peopleٱلْكِتَابِof the BookٱلَّذِينَwhoآتَيْنَاهُمُWe have given themٱلْكِتَابَthe Bookيَعْرِفُونَهُthey know him

And Allah the Most High said regarding the people of the Book who We have given the Book: 'They know him.'

أَيthat isمُحَمَّدًاMuhammadكَمَاjust asيَعْرِفُونَthey knowأَبْنَاءَtheir sonsهُمْthey

That is Muhammad, as they know their sons.

أَقُولُI sayأَيthat isبِوَصْفِهِhis descriptionفِيinكِتَابِهِمtheir Bookقَالَsaidابْنُthe sonسَلَامٌSalamلَقَدْindeedعَرَفْتُهُI recognized himحِينَwhenرَأَيْتُهُI saw himكَمَاjust asأَعْرِفُI knowابْنِيmy sonمَعْرِفَتِيmy recognitionبِمُحَمَّدَof Muhammadصَلَّىpeace be upon himعَلَيْهupon himوَأَشَدُّand stronger

I say, that is regarding his description in their Book. Ibn Salam said: 'I recognized him when I saw him just as I know my son; my recognition of Muhammad, peace be upon him, is stronger.'

رَوَاهُnarratedٱلْبُخَارِيُّby Al-Bukhariكَذَاthusفِيinتَفْسِيرِthe interpretationٱلْجَلَالَيْنِof Al-Jalalayn

Narrated by Al-Bukhari, thus in the interpretation of Al-Jalalayn.

وَعَنْAnd fromابْنِthe sonعَبَّاسٍAbbasرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedٱللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith himقَالَsaidلَمَّاwhenقَدِمَcameرَسُولُthe messengerٱللَّهِof Allahصَلَّىpeace be upon himعَلَيْهِupon himٱلْمَدِينَةَthe cityقَالَsaidعُمَرُOmarابْنُthe son ofٱلْخَطَّابِAl-Khattabرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedٱللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith himلِعَبْدِto Abdullahٱللَّهِof Allahابْنِthe son ofسَلَامٍSalamقَدْindeedأَنْزَلَsent downٱللَّهُAllahعَزَّthe Mightyوَجَلَّand Majesticعَلَىuponنَبِيِّهِhis prophetمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadصَلَّىpeace be upon himعَلَيْهِupon himٱلَّذِينَthose whoآتَيْنَاهُمُWe have given themٱلْكِتَابَthe Bookيَعْرِفُونَهُthey know himكَمَاjust asيَعْرِفُونَthey knowأَبْنَاءَهُمْtheir sonsهُمْtheyفَكَيْفَSo howيَاOعَبْدَAbdٱللَّهِof Allahهَذِهِthisٱلْمَعْرِفَةُknowledge؟?

And from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: 'When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, came to the city, Omar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said to Abdullah ibn Salam: 'Indeed, Allah the Mighty and Majestic has sent down to his prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him: 'Those whom We have given the Book, they know him as they know their sons. So how, O Abdullah, is this knowledge?'
