From the believers who were truly tested, their sincerity appeared.

And for this, Allah condemned the hypocrites for they entered into belief, then left it by His saying: And when the hypocrites come to you, they say, 'We bear witness that you are truly a messenger of Allah,' and Allah knows that you are indeed His messenger, and Allah bears witness that the hypocrites are certainly liars.

And the saying of those who say about such verses: Indeed they disbelieved after their faith with their tongues while their disbelief initially remained in their hearts is not valid, because faith with the tongue alongside the disbelief of the heart can be associated with disbelief, so it cannot be said: 'You have disbelieved after your faith.' For they have not remained disbelievers in the essence of the matter, and if it is intended that you showed disbelief after showing your faith, they did not show to the people except to their specific group, and they remained like this with their specific group. Rather, when they hypocrited and feared that a chapter would be revealed clarifying what is in their hearts of hypocrisy.

And when they engaged in mockery, they became disbelievers after their faith, and the wording does not indicate that they did not remain hypocrites. And He said: O you Prophet, strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be stern against them; their abode is hell, and worst is the destination.

They swear by Allah they did not say, and they certainly said the word of disbelief and disbelieved after their Islam; and they intended that which they could not attain, and they found no fault except that Allah and His Messenger had made them rich from His bounty. So if they repent, it would be better for them, and if they turn away, Allah will punish them with a painful punishment.
