وَالْمَغْرِبُand the Maghribإِلَىtoنِصْفِhalfاللَّيْلِ،the night,فَإِنَّهُfor itكَافِرٌis a disbelieverبِاللَّـهِin Godالْعَظِيمِthe Almightyيُسْتَتَابُis to be given a chance to repentثَلاثَةَthreeأَيَّامٍ،days,فَإِنْifلَمْhe does notوَقَالَand he saidتَرْكَهَاleaving itلَاnotيَكُونَbeكُفْرًا،disbelief,ضَرَبْتُI struckعُنُقَهُ،his neck,يَعْنِيmeaningتَارِكَهَاthe one who abandons itوَقَائِلٌand the one who saysذَٰلِكَ،that,
And the Maghrib, until half the night, for he who abandons it is a disbeliever in God, the Almighty, and is given a chance to repent for three days. If not, he said, leaving it does not constitute disbelief; I will strike his neck, meaning the one who abandons it and the one who says that.
يَرْجِعُHe returnsوَأَمَّاAnd as forإِذَاifصَلَّىhe prayedوَقَالَand saidذَٰلِكَ، فَهَذِهِthat, this isمَسْأَلَةٌa matterاجْتِهَادٍ،of personal judgment,قَالَhe said:وَاتَّبَعَهُمْand followed themعَلَىonمَاwhatوَصَفْنَاwe describedمِنْofبَعْدِهِمْafter themمِنْ عَصْرِنَاfrom our eraهَذَاthisأَهْلُthe peopleالْعِلْمِof knowledgeإِلَّاexceptمِنْforبَايَنَتْdiverged fromالْجَمَاعَةِ،the community,وَاتَّبَعَتْand followedالْأَهْوَاءِthe differing desiresالْمُخْتَلِفَةِ،different,فَأُو۟لَـٰئِكَso thoseقَوْمٌare a peopleلَاnotيُعْبَأُworth
He returns. And as for if he prayed and said that, this is a matter of personal judgment; he said: and they followed them in what we described of those after them from our era, the people of knowledge, except for those who diverged from the community and followed differing desires. So those are a people whom Allah does not care about, for they diverged from the community.
قَالَHe saidأَبُوAbuعُبَيْدUbaidالْقَاسِمُthe Qasimبْنُson ofسَلَامٍSalamالإِمَامُthe Imamوَلَهُand he hasكِتَابٌa bookمُصَنَّفٌcompiledفِيinالإِيمَانِ(۱)،faith,قَالَ:he said:هَذِهِthisتَسْمِيَةٌis a namingمِنْofكَانَwho wasيَقُولُ:saying:الإِيمَانُfaithقَوْلٌis a statementوَعَمَلٌand an actionيَزِيدُwhich increasesوَيَنْقُصُ.and decreases.
He said: Abu Ubaid Qasim bin Salam, the Imam, and he has a compiled book in faith, said: this is a definition of those who said: faith is a statement and an action that increases and decreases.
مِنْFromأَهْلِthe peopleمَكَّةَ:of Mecca:عُبَيْدUbaidبْنُson ofعُمَيْرٍUmar al-Laythi,عَطاءٌAtaبْنُson ofأَبِيAbuرَابِحٍ،Rabah,مُجَاهِدٍMujahidبْنُson ofجَبْرٍ،Jabr,ابْنُson ofأَبِيAbuمَلِيكَةَ،Malaikah,عَمْرٍAmrبْنُson ofدِينَارٍDinarابْنُson ofأَبِيAbuنَجِيحٍNujayhعُبَيْدُUbaidاللَّهُAllahبْنُson ofعُمَرَ،Umar,عَبْدُAbdاللَّهِAllahبْنُson ofعَمْرٍAmrابْنُson ofعُثْمَانَ،Uthman,عَبْدُAbdالْمَلِكِal-Malikبْنُson ofجُرَيْجٍ،Jurayj,نَافِعٌNafiبْنُson ofجُبَيْرٍJubairدَاوُدَDawoodبْنُson ofعَبْدِAbdالرَّحْمَـٰنِal-Rahmanالْعَطَّارِ،the perfumer,عَبْدُاللَّهِAbdullahبْنُson ofرَجَاءٍRaja,وَمِنَAnd fromأَهْلِthe peopleالْمَدِينَةِ:of Medina:مُحَمَّدٍMuhammadبْنُson ofشِهَابٍShihab al-Zuhri,رَبِيعَةَRabiahبْنُson ofأَبِيAbuعَبْدٍAbd
From the people of Mecca: Ubaid bin Umayr al-Laythi, Ata bin Abu Rabah, Mujahid bin Jabr, Ibn Abu Malaikah, Amr bin Dinar Ibn Abu Nujayh Ubaid Allah bin Umar, Abdullah bin Amr Ibn Uthman, Abdul Malik bin Jurayj, Nafi bin Jubair, Dawood bin Abd al-Rahman al-Attar, Abdullah bin Raja. From the people of Medina: Muhammad bin Shihab al-Zuhri, Rabiah bin Abu Abd.
وَمِنَAnd fromأَهْلِthe peopleاليَمَنِ: طَاوُسٌYemen: Tawus al-Yamani,الْيَمَانِيُّ،the Yemeni,وَهَبٌWahebابْنٌson ofمُنَبِّهٍMunabbih,مَعْمَرٌMa'marبْنُson ofرَاشِدٍRashidعَبْدٌAbdالرَّزَّاقِal-Razzaqبْنُson ofهَمَّامٍHammamوَمِنَAnd fromأَهْلِthe peopleمِصْرَof Egyptوَالشَّامِ:and the Levant:مَكْحُولٌ،Makhoul,الأَوزَاعِيُّ،al-Awzai,سَعِيدٌSaeedبْنُson ofعَبْدِAbdالْعَزِيزِ،al-Aziz,الْوَلِيدُal-Walidبْنُson ofمُسَلِّمٍ،Muslim,يُونُسُYounusبْنُson ofيَزِيدَYazidالأَيْلِينَ،the A'il,يَزِيدُYazidبْنُson ofأَبِيAbuحَبِيبٍ،Habib,يَزِيدُYazidبْنُson ofشَرِيحٍ،Sharh,سَعِيدٌSaeedبْنُson ofأَبِيAbuأَيُّوبَ،Ayyub.اللَّيْثُal-Laythبْنُson ofسَعِدٍ،Saad,عَبْدُاللَّهِAbdullahبْنُson ofأَبِيAbuجَعْفَرٍ،Jafar,مُعَاوِيَةُMuawiyaبْنُson ofأَبِيAbuصَالِحٍ،Saleh,حَيَوَةٌHaywaبْنُson ofشَرِيحٍ،Sharh,عَبْدُاللَّهِAbdullahبْنُson ofوَهْبٍ.Wahb.
And from the people of Yemen: Tawus al-Yamani, Waheb bin Munabbih, Ma'mar bin Rashid, Abdul Razak bin Hammam. And from the people of Egypt and the Levant: Makhoul, al-Awzai, Saeed bin Abdul Aziz, Al-Walid bin Muslim, Younus bin Yazid al-A'il, Yazid bin Abu Habib, Yazid bin Sharh, Saeed bin Abu Ayyub, al-Layth bin Saad, Abdullah bin Abu Jafar, Muawiya bin Abu Saleh, Haywa bin Sharh, Abdullah bin Wahb. From among those who inhabited the capitals and others from the island: Maymun bin Mehran, Yahya bin Abdul Karim, Muqal bin Ubaidullah, Ubaidullah bin Amr al-Raqi, Abdul Malik bin Malik, al-Mu'afa bin Imran, Muhammad bin Salama al-Harrani, Abu Ishaq al-Fazari, Mukhlad bin al-Hussein, Ali bin Bekar, Yusuf bin Asbat, Ata bin Muslim, Muhammad bin Kithir, Al-Haytham bin Jamil.
وَمِنَAnd fromأَهْلِthe peopleالْكُوفَةِ:of Kufa:عَلْقَمَةُAlaqmaالْأَسْوَدُthe Blackبْنُson ofيَزِيد،Yazid,أَبُوAbuوَائِلٍ،Wail,سَعِيدٌSaeed
And from the people of Kufa: Alaqma the Black bin Yazid, Abu Wail, Saeed.
