اَلْعَبْدُthe servantنَفْسَهُhimself.
The servant himself.
قَالَsaidتَعَالَىthe Exalted:ذَلِكَThatمِنْofأَنْبَاءِthe news ofالْقُرَىthe villagesنَقُصُّهُWe relate itعَلَيْكَto youمِنْهَاfrom themقَابِرٌQabeerوَحَصِيدٌand Hasid.
He the Exalted said: "That is of the news of the villages We relate it to you from them, Qabeer and Hasid."
وَمَاAnd notظَلَمْتَهُمْWe wronged themوَلَكِنbutظَلَمُواthey wrongedأَنْفُسَهُمْthemselves.فَمَاSo notأَغْنَتْhelped themعَنْهُمْfrom themوَآلِهَتُهُمْtheir deitiesالَّتِيwhichيَدْعُونَthey call uponمِنfromدُونِbesidesاللَّهِAllahمِنfromشَيْءٍanythingلَمَّاwhenجَاءَcameأَمْرُthe command ofرَبِّكَyour Lord.وَمَاAnd notزَادُوهُمْincreased themغَيْرَexceptتَنْبِيَةًwarning.
And We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves; and their deities which they invoked besides Allah did not avail them anything when came the command of your Lord, nor did they increase them except in warning.
وَقَالَAnd saidتَعَالَىthe Exalted:وَإِذْAnd whenقَالَsaidمُوسَىMosesلِقَوْمِهِto his peopleيَانَ قَوْمِيO my peopleإِنَّكُمْIndeed, youظَلَمْتُمْhave wrongedأَنفُسَكُمyourselvesبِاتِّخَاذِكُمْby takingالْعِجْلَthe calf.فَتُوبُواSo repentإِلَىtoبَارِئِكُمْyour Creator.
And the Exalted said: "And when Moses said to his people, 'O my people, indeed you have wronged yourselves by taking the calf. So repent to your Creator.'"
وَقَالَتْAnd saidبِلْقِيسٌBilqis:رَبِّO my Lord,إِنِّيIndeed, Iظَلَمْتُhave wrongedنَفْسِيmyself.وَأَسْلَمْتُAnd I have submittedمَعَwithسُلَيْمَانَSulaimanلِلَّهِto Allahرَبِّthe Lord ofالْعَالَمِينَthe worlds.
And Bilqis said: "O my Lord, indeed, I have wronged myself and I have submitted with Sulaiman to Allah, the Lord of the worlds."
وَقَالَAnd saidآدَمُAdamعَلَيْهِpeace be upon him:رَبَّنَاOur Lord,ظَلَمْنَاwe have wrongedأَنفُسَنَاourselves.وَإِنAnd ifلَّمْYou do notتَغْفِرْforgiveلَنَاfor usوَتَرْحَمْنَاand have mercy upon usلَتَكُونَنَّwe are certainlyمِنَamongالْخَاسِرِينَthe losers.
And Adam (peace be upon him) said: "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers."
ثُمَّThenقَدْmayيُقَرَّنَbe coupledبِبَعْضِwith someالذُّنُوبِsins,كَقَوْلِهِas His saying goes:وَالَّذِينَAnd those whoإِذَاifفَعَلُواthey doفَحِشَةًan immoral actأَوْorظَلَمُواthey wrongedأَنْفُسَهُمْthemselves.
Then it may be coupled with some sins, as His saying goes: 'And those who, if they do an immoral act, or they wrong themselves.'
