أَبْنَاءَهُمْtheir sonsوَيَسْتَحْيِيand they are shyنِسَاءَهُمْof their womenإِنَّهُindeed, itكَانَwasمِنَamongالْمُفْسِدِينَthe corruptors
Their sons, and they are shy of their women. Indeed, he was among the corruptors.
وAndقَالَsaidتَعَالَىThe Most High::مِنْOfأَجْلِthe reason forذَلِكَthatكَتَبْنَاWe decreedعَلَىuponبَنِيthe Children ofإِسْرَاءِيلَIsraelأَنَّهُthat whoeverمَنwhoeverقَتَلَkillsنَفْسًاa soulبِغَيْرِwithoutنَفْسٍanother soulأَوْorفَسَادٍcorruptionفِيinالْأَرْضِthe landفَكَأَنَّمَاit is as ifقَتَلَhe has killedالنَّاسَthe peopleجَمِيعًاaltogether
And the Most High said: 'For this reason, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul without another soul or corruption in the land, it is as if he has killed all the people.'
وAndقَتْلُthe killingالنَّفْسِof the soulالأُولَىthe firstمِنَofجُمَلَةِa totalالْفَسَادِof the corruption,,لَكِنbutالْحَقُّthe rightفِيinالْقَتْلِthe killingلِوَلِيِّto the guardianالْمَقْتُولِof the killed,,وَفِيAnd inالرِّدَّةِthe apostasyوَالْمُحَارَبَةِand fightingوَالزِّنَاand adulteryالْحَقُّthe rightفِيهَاin itلِعُمُومِto the generalالنَّاسِpeople,,وَلِهَذَاand thereforeيُقَالُit is said::هُوَit isحَقٌّthe rightاللَّهِof Allah,,وَلِهَذَاand thereforeلَاnotيُعْفَىbe excusedعَنْfromهَذَاthis,,كَمَاjust asيُعْفَىit is excusedعَنْfromالْأُولَىthe firstلِأَنَّbecauseفَسَادَهَاits corruptionعَامٌis general
And the killing of the first soul is among the total of the corruption, but the right in killing is for the guardian of the killed. And in apostasy, fighting, and adultery, the right is for the general people, and therefore it is said: 'It is the right of Allah,' and therefore it is not excused from this, just as it is excused from the first because its corruption is general.
قَالَHe saidتَعَالَىThe Most High::إِنَّمَاIndeedجَزَاؤُهُمthe punishmentالَّذِينَof those whoيُحَارِبُونَwage war againstاللَّهَAllahوَرَسُولَهُand His Messengerوَيَسْعَوْنَand striveفِيinالْأَرْضِthe landفَسَادًاcorruptionأَنْis thatيُقَتَلُواthey be killedأَوْorيُصَلَّبُواthey be crucifiedأَوْorتُقَطَّعَthey have their handsأَيْدِيهِمand legsوَأَرْجُلُهُمtheir handsمِّنْfromخِلافٍopposite sidesأَوْorيُنفَواthey be exiledمِنfromالْأَرْضِthe earth.ذَلِكَThatلَهُمْfor themخِزْيٌis disgraceفِيinالدُّنْيَاthe worldly lifeوَلَهُمْand for themفِيinالْآخِرَةِthe Hereafterعَذَابٌis punishmentعَظِيمٌgreat.
The Most High said: 'Indeed, the punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive in the land to spread corruption is that they be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off from opposite sides, or they be exiled from the land. That is for them disgrace in this worldly life, and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.
قِيلَIt was said::سَبَبُthe reasonنُزُولِfor the revelationهَذِهِof thisالْآيَةِverseالْعُرَيْنِيُّونَthe 'Urainah tribeالَّذِينَwhoارْتَدُّواapostatizedوَقَتَلُواand killedوَأَخَذُواand tookالْمَالَthe wealth.
It was said: 'The reason for the revelation of this verse is the 'Urainah tribe who apostatized and killed and took wealth.
وَقِيلَAnd it was said::سَبَبُهُits causeنَاسٌis some peopleمُعَاهَدُونَbound by a treatyنَقَضُواthey brokeالْعَهْدَthe oathوَحَارَبُواand fought.
And it was said: 'Its cause is some people who were bound by a treaty, and they broke the oath and fought.
وَقِيلَAnd it was said::الْمُشْرِكُونَthe polytheists؛,فَقَدْfor theyقُرِنُواwere groupedبِالْمُرْتَدِّينَwith the apostatesوَنَاقِضِيand the violatorsالْعَهْدِof the treatyالْمُحَارِبِينَthe fighters.
And it was said: 'The polytheists; for they were grouped with the apostates and the violators of the treaty.
وَجُمْهُورُAnd the majorityالسَّلَفِof the predecessorsوَالْخَلَفِand successorsعَلَىis onأَنَّهَاthat itتَنَاولُencompassesقَاطِعَةَthe highway robbersالطَّرِيقِof the roadمِنَfromالْمُسْلِمِينَthe Muslims.
And the majority of the predecessors and successors agree that it encompasses the highway robbers from among the Muslims.
وَالْآيَةُAnd the verseتَتَنَاوَلُencompassesذَلِكَthat all.وَلِهَذَاAnd thereforeكَانَit wasمِنَfromتَابَthose who repentedقَبْلَbeforeالْقُدْرَةِthe abilityعَلَيْهِمto act against themمِنَfromجَمِيعِallهَؤُلَاءthese,فَإِنَّهُthen itيَسْقُطُdropsعَنْهُfrom himحَقُّthe rightاللَّهِof AllahتَعَالَىThe Most High.
And the verse encompasses all that. Therefore, whoever repents before being able to act against them, then the right of Allah, the Most High, is dropped from him.
وَكَذَٰلِكَAnd similarlyقَرَنَHe pairedالصَّلَاحَrighteousnessوَالإِصْلَاحَand reformبِالْإِيمَانِwith faithفِيinمَوَاضِعَmany placesكَقَوْلِهِas His sayingتَعَالَىThe Most High::إِنَّهُIndeedالَّذِينَthose whoآمَنُواbelievedوَعَمِلُواand didالصَّالِحَاتِrighteous deeds.
And similarly, He paired righteousness and reform with faith in many places, as in the saying of the Most High: 'Indeed, those who believed and did righteous deeds.
فَمَنSo whoeverءَامَنَbelievesوَأَصْلَحَand reformsفَلَاthere is notخَوْفٌfearعَلَيْهِمupon themوَلَاand notهُمْtheyيَحْزَنُونَwill grieve.
So whoever believes and reforms, there is not fear upon them, nor will they grieve.
وَمَعْلُومٌAnd it is knownأَنَّthatالإِيمَانَthe faith isأَفْضَلُbetter thanالإِصْلَاحِthe reformوَأَفْضَلُand the bestالْعَمَلِactionالصَّالِحِrighteous,كَمَاasجَاءَcameفِيinالْحَدِيثِthe hadithالصَّحِيحِauthenticأَنَّهُthat itقِيلَwas saidيَاOرَسُولَMessengerاللَّهِof Allah::أَيُّWhichالأَعْمَالِactionsأَفْضَلُare better?قَالَHe said:: إِيمَانٌBeliefبِاللَّهِin Allah.
And it is known that faith is better than reform, and the best action is righteous actions, as it came in the authentic hadith that it was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, which actions are better?' He said: 'Belief in Allah.
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَىThe Most High::وَإِنِّيAnd indeed Iلَغَفَّارٌam indeed Forgivingلِمَنfor whoeverتَابَrepentsوَآمَنَand believesوَعَمِلَand doesصَالِحًاrighteousnessثُمَّthenاهْتَدَىhe is guided.
And the Most High said: 'And indeed I am indeed Forgiving for whoever repents and believes, and does righteousness, then he is guided.
وَقَالَAnd He saidإِلَّاExceptمَنfor whoeverتَابَrepentsوَءَامَنَand believesوَعَمِلَand doesصَالِحًاrighteousnessفَأُولَـٰئِكَthose areيَدْخُلُونَthey enterالْجَنَّةَthe Paradise.
And He said: 'Except for whoever repents and believes and does righteousness; those are the ones who will enter Paradise.
وَقَالَAnd He saidإِلَّاExceptمَنfor whoeverتَابَrepentsوَءَامَنَand believesوَعَمَلَand doesعَمَلًاan actصَالِحًاrighteous.فَأُولَـٰئِكَThen thoseيُبَدِّلُwill replaceاللَّهُAllahسَيِّئَاتِهِمtheir bad deedsحَسَنَاتٍwith good deeds.
And He said: 'Except for whoever repents and believes and does a righteous act; those are the ones whom Allah will replace their bad deeds with good deeds.
وَقَالَAnd He saidفِيinالْقَذْفِthe false accusation
And He said about false accusation: 'Except for those who repent after that and rectify; indeed, Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
وَقَالَAnd He saidفِيinالْآيَةِthe verseالْحَدِيثَةِthe recentالَّتِيthatرَوضَHe improvedالْأَسْمَاكَthe fish
And He said in the recent verse that He improved the fish.
