ثُمَّThenإِنَّindeedعَلَيْنَاupon usحِسَابَهُمْis their reckoning.
Then indeed, upon us is their reckoning.
وَقَالَAnd He saidإِنَّindeedعَلَيْنَاupon usجَمْعَهُis its gatheringوَقُرْآنَهُand its recitation.
And He said, "Indeed, upon us is its gathering and its recitation."
وَمَاAnd notمِنْfromدَابَّةٍany creatureفِيinالْأَرْضِthe earthإِلَّاexceptعَلَىuponاللَّهِAllahرِزْقُهَاis its provision.
And there is not any creature in the earth except that upon Allah is its provision.
وَنَظَائِرُAnd similarذَلِكَto that؟?
And similar to that?
قِيلَIt was saidفِيregardingأَدَاةِthe particle«عَلَى»"upon"لَطِيفٌa subtle point,وَهُوَand it isالْإِشْعَارُthe indicationبِأَنَّthatالسَّالِكَthe travelerعَلَىuponهَذَاthisسِرٌّsecret...
It was said that regarding the particle "upon" there is a subtle point, and it is the indication that the traveler upon this secret...
الصِّرَاطَpathwayعَلَىuponهَذِهِthis.وَهُوَAnd it isحَقٌّthe truth.كَمَاAsقَالَHe saidفِيregardingحَقِّthe state ofالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers:
The pathway upon this. And it is the truth. As He said regarding the state of the believers:
أُولَئِكَThoseعَلَىare uponهُدًىguidanceمِنْfromرَبِّهِمْtheir Lord.
Those are upon guidance from their Lord.
وَقَالَAnd He saidلِرَسُولِهِto His Messengerصَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَpeace and blessings be upon him::فَتَوَكَّلْ"So relyعَلَىuponاللَّهِAllah;إِنَّكَindeed, youعَلَىare uponالْحَقِّthe truthالْمُبِينِclear."
And He said to His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him: "So rely upon Allah; indeed, you are upon the clear truth."
وَاللَّهُAnd Allahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Exalted and Majesticهُوَisالْحَقُّthe Truth,وَصِرَاطُهُand His pathwayحَقٌّis truth,وَدِينُهُand His religionحَقٌّis truth.
And Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, is the Truth, and His pathway is truth, and His religion is truth.
فَإِنْSo ifاسْتَقَامَhe is uprightعَلَىuponصِرَاطِهِHis pathway,فَهُوَthen he isعَلَىuponالْحَقِّthe truthوَالْهُدَىand guidance.
So if he is upright upon His pathway, then he is upon the truth and guidance.
فَكَانَThus, there wasفِيinأَدَاةِthe particle«عَلَى»"upon"عَلَىin thisهَذَاcontextالْمَعْنَىa meaningمَاthatلَيْسَis notفِيinأَدَاةِthe particle«إِلَى»"to".
Thus, there was in the particle "upon" in this context a meaning that is not in the particle "to".
فَتَأَمَّلْهُSo reflect upon it,فَإِنَّهُfor indeed it isسِرٌّa secretبَدِيعٌwonderful.
So reflect upon it, for indeed it is a wonderful secret.
فَإِنْSo ifقُلْتَyou say::فَمَا"What isالْفَائِدَةُthe benefitفِيinذِكْرِmentioning«عَلَى»"upon"فِيinذَلِكَthatأَيْضًاalso?
So if you say: "What is the benefit in mentioning "upon" in that also?
وَكَيْفَAnd howيَكُونُcanالْمُؤْمِنُthe believerمُسْتَعْلِيًاbe elevatedعَلَىaboveالْحَقِّthe truthوَعَلَىand aboveالْهُدَىguidance?"
And how can the believer be elevated above the truth and above guidance?"
قُلْتُI say::لِمَاDue to whatفِيهِit containsمِنْofاسْتِعْلَائِهِhis elevationوَعُلُوِّهِand loftinessبِالْحَقِّthrough the truthوَالْهُدَىand guidance,مَعَalong withثَبَاتِهِhis steadfastnessعَلَيْهِupon itوَاسْتِقَامَتِهِand his uprightnessعَلَيْهِupon it.
I say: Due to what it contains of his elevation and loftiness through the truth and guidance, along with his steadfastness upon it and his uprightness upon it.
فَكَانَThus, there wasفِيinالْإِتْيَانِbringingبِأَدَاةِthe particle«عَلَى»"upon"مَاthat whichيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىhisعُلُوِّهِloftiness,وَثُبُوتِهِhis steadfastness,وَاسْتِقَامَتِهِand his uprightness.
Thus, bringing the particle "upon" indicates his loftiness, his steadfastness, and his uprightness.
وَهَذَاAnd thisبِخِلَافِis contrary toالضَّلَالِerrorوَالرَّيْبِand doubt,فَإِنَّهُfor indeedيُؤْتَىthere is broughtفِيهِin contextبِأَدَاةِthe particle«فِي»"in"الدَّالَّةِwhich indicatesعَلَىtheانْغِمَاسِimmersionصَاحِبِهِof its owner,وَانْقِمَاعِهِhis suppression,وَتَدَسُّسِهِand his sinking within it,كَقَوْلِهِas His sayingتَعَالَىthe Exalted:
And this is contrary to error and doubt, for indeed there is brought in context the particle "in" which indicates the immersion of its owner, his suppression, and his sinking within it, as His saying the Exalted:
فَهُمْ"So theyفِيinرَيْبِهِمْtheir doubtيَتَرَدَّدُونَare wandering aimlessly,"
"So they in their doubt are wandering aimlessly,"
وَقَوْلِهِAnd His saying:وَالَّذِينَ"And those whoكَذَّبُواdeniedبِآيَاتِنَاOur versesصُمٌّare deafوَبُكْمٌand dumbفِيinظُلُمَاتٍdarkness."
And His saying: "And those who denied Our verses are deaf and dumb in darkness."
وَقَوْلِهِAnd His saying:فَذَرْهُمْ"So leave themفِيinغَمْرَتِهِمْtheir overwhelming ignoranceحَتَّىuntilحِينٍa time."
And His saying: "So leave them in their overwhelming ignorance until a time."
وَقَوْلِهِAnd His saying:وَإِنَّهُمْ"And indeed, theyلَفِيare surely inشَكٍّdoubtمِنْهُconcerning it,مُرِيبٍdisquieting."
And His saying: "And indeed, they are surely in doubt concerning it, disquieting."
وَتَأَمَّلْAnd reflect uponقَوْلَهُHis sayingتَعَالَىthe Exalted:وَإِنَّا"And indeed, weأَوْorإِيَّاكُمْyouلَعَلَىare surely uponهُدًىguidanceأَوْorفِيinضَلَالٍerrorمُبِينٍclear."
And reflect upon His saying the Exalted: "And indeed, we or you are surely upon guidance or in clear error."
