God, the Exalted, said: "And We did not send any messenger except with the language of his people to clarify for them. And God misleads whom He wills and guides whom He wills, and He is the Mighty, the Wise."

فَٱلرُّسُلُSo the messengersتُبَيِّنُclarify..وَاللَّهُAnd AllahهُوَHe isٱلَّذِيthe One whoيُضِلُّmisleadsمَنْwhomيَشَاءُHe willsوَيَهْدِيand guidesمَنْwhomيَشَاءُHe willsبِعِزَّتِهِby His mightوَحِكْمَتِهِand His wisdom.

So the messengers clarify. And Allah is the One who misleads whom He wills and guides whom He wills by His might and His wisdom.

ٱلْمَرْتَبَةُThe rankٱلسَّابِعَةُseventh:ٱلْبَيَانُThe clarificationٱلْخَاصُّspecific.وَهُوَAnd it isٱلْبَيَانُthe clarificationٱلْمُسْتَلْزِمُthat necessitatesلِلْهَدَايَةِguidanceٱلْخَاصَّةَspecific,وَهُوَand it isبَيَانٌthe clarificationتُقَارِنُهُthat is accompaniedٱلْعِنَايَةَby careوَٱلتَّوْفِيقَand successوَٱلْإِجْتِبَاءَand selectionوَقَطْعَand cutting offأَسْبَابِthe causesٱلْخَذْلَانِof failureوَمَوَادَّهَاand its meansعَنْfromٱلْقَلْبِthe heartفَلَاso that notتَتَخَلَّفَget delayedعَنْهُfrom itٱلْهَدَايَةَthe guidanceأَلْبَتَّةَin any way.

The seventh rank: the specific clarification. And it is the clarification that necessitates specific guidance, and it is a clarification that is accompanied by care, success, selection, cutting off the causes and means of failure from the heart so that the guidance does not get delayed from it at all.

قَالَHe saidتَعَالَىThe Exalted::((إِنَّIndeedتَحْرِصُyou striveعَلَىforهُدَاهُمْtheir guidanceفَإِنَّthen indeedاللَّهَAllahلَاdoes notيَهْدِيguideمَنْwhomيُضِلُّHe misleads))(٢)(2)

He, the Exalted, said: "Indeed, if you strive for their guidance, then indeed, Allah does not guide whom He misleads."

وَقَالَAnd saidإِنَّكَIndeed youلَاdo notتَهْدِيguideمَنْwhomأَحْبَبْتَyou loveوَلَكِنَّbutاللَّهَAllahيَهْدِيguidesمَنْwhomيَشَاءُHe wills.))(۳)(3)

And said: 'Indeed, you do not guide whom you love, but Allah guides whom He wills.'

فَٱلْبَيَانُSo the clarificationٱلْأَوَّلُthe firstشَرْطٌis a condition.وَهَـٰذَاAnd thisمُوجِبٌis necessary.

So the first clarification is a condition. And this is necessary.

ٱلْمَرْتَبَةُThe rankٱلثَّامِنَةُeighthمَرْتَبَةُrankٱلْإِسْمَاعِof listening.قَالَHe saidاللَّهُAllahتَعَالَىThe Exalted::﴿﴿وَلَوْAnd ifعَلِمَHe knewاللَّهُAllahفِيهِمْin themخَيْرًاgoodلَأَسْمَعَهُمْHe would have made them hearوَلَوْand ifأَسْمَعَهُمْHe made them hearلَتَوَلَّواthey would have turned awayوَهُمْwhile they areمُعْرِضُونَdisregarding. ))(٤)(4)

Allah, the Exalted, said: "And if Allah knew any good in them, He would have made them hear; but if He made them hear, they would have turned away while they are disregarding."

وَقَدْAnd indeedقَالَHe saidتَعَالَىThe Exalted::﴿﴿وَمَاAnd notيَسْتَوِيis equalٱلْأَعْمَىthe blindوَٱلْبَصِيرُand the seeing.وَلَاNorٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُthe darknessوَلَاnorٱلنُّورُthe light.وَلَاNorٱلظَّلُّthe shadowوَلَاand notٱلْحَرُّورُthe heat.وَمَاAnd notيَسْتَوِيis equalٱلْأَحْيَاءُthe livingوَلَاand notٱلْأَمْوَاتُthe dead.إِنَّIndeedاللَّهَAllahيُسْمِعُmakes hearمَنْwhomيَشَاءُHe wills.وَمَاAnd notأَنتَyouبِمُسْمِعٍare one to make hearمَنْwhomفِيinٱلْقُبُورِthe graves.إِنَّIndeedأَنتَyouإِلَّاonlyنَذِيرٌa warner.))(٥)(5)

And indeed, Allah, the Exalted, said: "And the blind and the seeing are not equal, nor are the darkness and the light. Nor are the shadow and the heat alike. And not are the living and the dead equal. Indeed, Allah makes hear whom He wills, and you are not one to make hear whom is in the graves. Indeed, you are only a warner."

هَذَاThisٱلْإِسْمَاعُlisteningأَخَصُّis more specificمِنْthanإِسْمَاعِthe listeningٱلْحُجَّةِof the proofوَٱلتَّبْلِيغِand the conveying.فَإِنَّFor indeedذَاكَthatحَاصِلٌis acquiredلَهُمfor themوَبِهِand by itقَامَتِthe proof establishedٱلْحُجَّةُthe proofعَلَيْهِمagainst them.لَكِنَّButذَاكَthat (is)إِسْمَاعٌthe listeningٱلْآذَانِof the ears,وَهَذَاand thisإِسْمَاعٌlisteningٱلْقُلُوبِof the hearts.فَإِنَّFor indeedٱلْكَلَامَspeechلَهُhasلَفْظٌa wordوَمَعْنًىand a meaning,وَلَهُand hasنِسْبَةٌa relationإِلَىtoٱلْأُذُنِthe earوَٱلْقَلْبِand the heartوَتَعَلُّقٌand dependenceبِهِمَاon both.فَسَمَاعُSo the hearingلَفْظِهِof its wordحَظٌّis a shareٱلْأُذُنِof the ear,وَسَمَاعُand the hearingحَقِيقَةٌof the realityمَعْنَاهُof its meaningوَمَقْصُودِهِand its intentحَظٌّis a shareٱلْقَلْبِof the heart.فَإِنَّهُFor indeedسُبْحَانَهُHe, Glorifiedنَفَىnegatedعَنْfromٱلْكَافِرِينَthe disbelieversسَمَاعَthe hearingٱلْمَقْصُودِof the intendedوَٱلْمُرَادِand what is intendedٱلَّذِيwhichهُوَisحَظٌّa shareٱلْقَلْبِof the heart,وَأَثْبَتَand affirmed for themسَمَاعَthe hearingٱلْأَلْفَاظِof the wordsٱلَّذِيwhichهُوَisحَظٌّa shareٱلْأُذُنِof the earفِيinقَوْلِهِHis saying :((مَاWhatيَأْتِيهِمْcomes to themمِنْfromذِكْرٍreminderمِنْfromرَبِّهِمْtheir Lordمُحْدَثٍnewإِلَّاexceptٱسْتَمَعُوهُthey listenوَهُمْand theyيَلْعَبُونَplay،,لَاهِيَةًdistractedقُلُوبُهُمْtheir hearts))(٦)(6)

This listening is more specific than the listening of the proof and the conveying. For indeed that is acquired for them and by it the proof established against them. But that is the listening of the ears, and this is the listening of the hearts. For indeed the speech has a word and a meaning, and has a relation to the ear and the heart and dependence on both. So the hearing of its word is a share of the ear, and the hearing of the reality of its meaning and its intent is a share of the heart. For indeed, He, Glorified, negated from the disbelievers the hearing of what is intended and what is meant, which is a share of the heart, and affirmed for them the hearing of the words which is a share of the ear in His saying: "What comes to them from a reminder from their Lord that is new, except that they listen while they play, distracted are their hearts."
