وَكَانَAnd he wasيَعْرِفُknowingأَنَّthatالْأَصْنَامَthe idolsلَاnotتَتَكَلَّمُspeakوَلَاand notتَسْمَعُhear
And he knew that the idols neither speak nor hear.
وَكَانَAnd he wasيَعْرِفُknowingأَنَّthatالْأَصْنَامَthe idolsلَاnotتَضُرُّharmوَلَاand notتَنْفَعُbenefit
And he knew that the idols neither harm nor benefit.
وَكَانَAnd he wasيَرَىseeingأَنَّthatالذُّبَابَthe fliesيَجْلِسُsitعَلَىonالْأَصْنَامِthe idolsفَلَاso notتَدْفَعُrepel
And he saw that flies would sit on the idols, and they would not repel them.
وَكَانَAnd he wasيَرَىseeingالْفَأْرَthe mouseيَأْكُلُeatطَعَامَfood ofالْأَصْنَامِthe idolsفَلَاso notتَمْنَعُprevent
And he saw the mouse eating the idols' food, and they would not prevent it.
وَكَانَAnd he wasإِبْرَاهِيمُAbrahamيَقُولُsayingفِيinنَفْسِهِhimselfلِمَاذَاwhyيَسْجُدُprostrateالنَّاسُthe peopleلِلْأَصْنَامِto the idols
And Abraham would say to himself: Why do people prostrate to idols?
وَكَانَAnd he wasإِبْرَاهِيمُAbrahamيَسْأَلُaskingنَفْسَهُhimselfلِمَاذَاwhyيَسْأَلُaskالنَّاسُthe peopleالْأَصْنَامَthe idols
And Abraham would ask himself why people ask the idols.
٣3وَمَنْand fromنَصِيحَةُadvice ofإِبْرَاهِيمَAbraham
3 - Abraham's Advice
وَكَانَAnd he wasإِبْرَاهِيمُAbrahamيَقُولُsayingلِوَالِدِهِto his father
And Abraham would say to his father:
يَاOأَبِيmy fatherلِمَاذَاwhyتَعْبُدُyou worshipهَذِهِtheseالْأَصْنَامَidols
O my father, why do you worship these idols?
وَيَاAnd Oأَبِيmy fatherلِمَاذَاwhyتَسْجُدُyou prostrateلِهَذِهِto theseالْأَصْنَامِidols
And O my father, why do you prostrate to these idols?
وَيَاAnd Oأَبِيmy fatherلِمَاذَاwhyتَسْأَلُyou askهَذِهِtheseالْأَصْنَامَidols
And O my father, why do you ask these idols?
إِنَّIndeedهَذِهِtheseالْأَصْنَامَidolsلَاnotتَتَكَلَّمُspeakوَلَاand notتَسْمَعُhear
Indeed, these idols neither speak nor hear!
وَإِنَّAnd indeedهَذِهِtheseالْأَصْنَامَidolsلَاnotتَضُرُّharmوَلَاand notتَنْفَعُbenefit
And indeed, these idols neither harm nor benefit.
وَلِأَيِّAnd for whatشَيْءٍthingتَضَعُyou placeلَهَاfor themالطَّعَامَthe foodوَالشَّرَابَand the drink
And for what reason do you place food and drink for them?
وَإِنَّAnd indeedهَذِهِtheseالْأَصْنَامَidolsيَاOأَبِيmy fatherلَاnotتَأْكُلُeatوَلَاand notتَشْرَبُdrink
And indeed, these idols, O my father, neither eat nor drink.
وَكَانَAnd he wasآزَرُAzarيَغْضَبُgetting angryوَلَاand notيَفْهَمُunderstanding
And Azar would get angry and not understand.
