وَلَاAnd notيَعْلَمُونَthey knowأَنَّthatاللَّهَAllahعِنْدَهُwith Himمَفَاتِيحُare the keysالرِّزْقِof sustenance،,وَأَنَّand thatاللَّهَAllahيَبْسُطُexpandsالرِّزْقَsustenanceلِمَنْfor whomيَشَاءُHe willsوَيَقْدِرُand restricts،,وَأَنَّand thatالنَّيْلَthe Nileيَجْرِيflowsبِأَمْرِهِby His commandوَيَفِيضُand overflowsبِأَمْرِهِby His command.
And they do not know that Allah has the keys to sustenance, and that Allah expands sustenance for whom He wills and restricts, and that the Nile flows by His command and overflows by His command.
وَأَمَرَAnd commandedاللَّهُAllahالنَّيْلَthe Nileفَغَاضَso recededمَاؤُهُits waterوَذَهَبَand wentفِيintoالْأَرْضِthe earth.
And Allah commanded the Nile, so its water receded and went into the earth.
فَمَاذَاSo whatيَرْوِيwill waterزُرُوعَthe cropsأَهْلِof the peopleمِصْرَof Egypt?
So what will water the crops of the people of Egypt?
نَقَصَتْDecreasedثَمَرَاتُهُمْtheir fruitsوَنَقَصَتْand decreasedحُبُوبُهُمْtheir grains،,وَكَانَتْand there wasمَجَاعَةٌfamineبَعْدَafterمَجَاعَةٍfamine!
Their fruits decreased and their grains decreased, and there was famine after famine!
وَعَجَزَAnd was unableفِرْعَوْنُPharaohوَعَجَزَand was unableهَامَانُHamanوَعَجَزَتْand was unableشُرْطَةُthe policeفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohعَنْfromكُلِّeveryحِيلَةٍtrick.
And Pharaoh was unable, and Haman was unable, and the police of Pharaoh were unable from every trick.
هُنَالِكَThenعَلِمَknewأَهْلُthe peopleمِصْرَof EgyptأَنَّthatفِرْعَوْنَPharaohلَيْسَis notرَبَّهُمْtheir lord،,وَأَنَّand thatالرِّزْقَsustenanceبِيَدِis in the handاللَّهِof Allah!
Then the people of Egypt knew that Pharaoh was not their lord, and that sustenance is in the hand of Allah!
وَلَكِنَّButذَلِكَthatلَمْdid notيَنْفَعْbenefitفِرْعَوْنَPharaoh،,وَلَمْand did notيَنْفَعْbenefitأَهْلَthe peopleمِصْرَof Egyptوَلَمْand did notيُنَبِّهْهُمْawaken them!
But that did not benefit Pharaoh, and did not benefit the people of Egypt, and did not awaken them!
وَحَالَAnd stood as a barrierالشَّيْطَانُSatanبَيْنَهُمْbetween themوَبَيْنَand betweenالْمَوْعِظَةِthe admonitionوَالْعِبْرَةِand the lesson.
And Satan stood as a barrier between them and between the admonition and the lesson.
قَالُواThey saidهَذِهِTheseالْمَجَاعَاتُfaminesوَهَذِهِand theseالسُّنُونُyearsمِنْare fromشُؤْمِthe ill-omenمُوسَىof Mosesوَقَوْمِهِand his people!
They said: These famines and these years are from the ill-omen of Moses and his people!
يَاOhلَلْعَجَبِwhat a wonder!!!أَلَمْWas notيَكُنْheمُوسَىMosesمِنْfromقَبْلُbefore?
Oh, what a wonder! Was not Moses from before?
أَلَمْWere notيَكُنْthereبَنُوthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelمُنْذُsinceزَمَنٍa timeبَعِيدٍfar?
Were not the children of Israel from a time far?
بَلْRatherذَلِكَthatمِنْis fromشُؤْمِthe ill-omenأَعْمَالِهِمْof their deeds!!!بَلْRatherذَلِكَthatمِنْis fromشُؤْمِthe ill-omenكُفْرِهِمْof their disbelief!
Rather, that is from the ill-omen of their deeds! Rather, that is from the ill-omen of their disbelief!
وَعَانَدَAnd was stubbornفِرْعَوْنُPharaohوَقَوْمُهُand his people،,وَقَالُواand they saidإِنَّاIndeed, weلَاdo notنَخْضَعُsubmitلِهَذَاto thisالسِّحْرِsorcery.
And Pharaoh and his people were stubborn, and they said: Indeed, we do not submit to this sorcery.
وَقَالُواAnd they saidمَهْمَاWhateverتَأْتِنَاyou bring usبِهِwith itمِنْofآيَةٍa signلِتَسْحَرَنَاto bewitch usبِهَاwith it،,فَمَاthen weنَحْنُare notلَكَto youبِمُؤْمِنِينَbelievers.
And they said: Whatever sign you bring us to bewitch us with it, then we are not believers in you.
