وَلَكِنْButمَاnotكَانَwasلِمَوْلُودٍfor a newbornفِيinبَنِيthe children ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelأَنْtoيَعِيشَliveفِيinمَمْلَكَةِthe kingdom ofفِرْعَوْنَPharaoh.
But it was not for a newborn in the children of Israel to live in the kingdom of Pharaoh.
وَذُبِحَAnd were slaughteredأُلُوفٌthousandsمِنَofالْأَطْفَالِthe childrenأَمَامَin front ofآبَائِهِمْtheir fathersوَأُمَّهَاتِهِمْand their mothers.
And thousands of children were slaughtered in front of their fathers and their mothers.
وَكَانَAnd wasالْيَوْمُthe dayالَّذِيthatيُولَدُis bornفِيهِin itمَوْلُودٌa newbornفِيinبَنِيthe children ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelيَوْمًاas a dayعَسِيرًاdifficult.
And the day a newborn was born in the children of Israel was a difficult day.
وَكَانَAnd wasيَوْمَa dayحُزْنٍof sadnessوَبُكَاءٍand weeping.
And it was a day of sadness and weeping.
وَكَانَAnd wasالْيَوْمُthe dayالَّذِيthatيُولَدُis bornفِيهِin itمَوْلُودٌa newbornفِيinبَنِيthe children ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelيَوْمَa dayتَعْزِيَةٍof consolationوَرِثَاءٍand lamentation.
And the day a newborn was born in the children of Israel was a day of consolation and lamentation.
وَكَانَAnd wereيُذْبَحُslaughteredمِئَاتٌhundredsمِنَofالْأَطْفَالِchildrenفِيinيَوْمٍa dayوَاحِدٍoneكَعِيدِlike the festival ofالْأَضْحَىAl-Adha,
And hundreds of children were slaughtered in one day like the festival of Al-Adha,
يُذْبَحُis slaughteredفِيهِin itمِئَاتٌhundredsمِنَofالْغَنَمِsheepوَالنِّعَاجِand ewesوَالْبَقَرِand cattle.
in which hundreds of sheep, ewes, and cattle are slaughtered.
إِنَّIndeed,فِرْعَوْنَPharaohعَلَاwas exaltedفِيinالْأَرْضِthe landوَجَعَلَand madeأَهْلَهَاits peopleشِيَعًاfactions,
Indeed, Pharaoh was exalted in the land and made its people factions,
يَسْتَضْعِفُoppressingطَائِفَةًa groupمِنْهُمْof them,يُذَبِّحُslaughteringأَبْنَاءَهُمْtheir sonsوَيَسْتَحْيِيand keeping aliveنِسَاءَهُمْtheir women.
oppressing a group of them, slaughtering their sons and keeping alive their women.
إِنَّهُIndeed, heكَانَwasمِنَofالْمُفْسِدِينَthe corrupters.
Indeed, he was of the corrupters.
٦6--وِلَادَةُBirthمُوسَىof Moses
6 - Birth of Moses
وَأَرَادَAnd willedاللَّهُAllahأَنْthatيَقَعَshould happenمَاwhatكَانَwasفِرْعَوْنُPharaohيَخَافُهُfearingوَيَحْذَرُهُand warning against.
And Allah willed that what Pharaoh was fearing and warning against should happen.
وُلِدَWas bornذَلِكَthatالْمَوْلُودُnewbornالَّذِيwhoقَدَّرَdecreedاللَّهُAllahأَنْthatيَذْهَبَwould goمُلْكُthe kingdom ofفِرْعَوْنَPharaohعَلَىbyيَدِهِhis hand.
Was born that newborn whom Allah decreed that the kingdom of Pharaoh would go by his hand.
وُلِدَWas bornذَلِكَthatالْمَوْلُودُnewbornالَّذِيwhoقَدَّرَdecreedاللَّهُAllahأَنْthatيَكُونَwould beخَلَاصُthe salvation ofبَنِيthe children ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelعَلَىbyيَدِهِhis hand.
Was born that newborn whom Allah decreed that the salvation of the children of Israel would be by his hand.
وُلِدَWas bornذَلِكَthatالْمَوْلُودُnewbornالَّذِيwhoقَدَّرَdecreedاللَّهُAllahأَنْthatيُخْرِجَhe would bring outالنَّاسَpeopleمِنْfromعِبَادَةِthe worship ofالنَّاسِpeopleإِلَىtoعِبَادَةِthe worship ofاللَّهِAllah.
Was born that newborn whom Allah decreed that he would bring people out from the worship of people to the worship of Allah.
