The soldiers looked around them with pride, and they felt confident in their simple weapons.
لَقَدْIndeedكَانُواthey wereرِجَالًاmenبِحَقٍّindeed..
Indeed, they were men in truth.

رَأْيُOpinionالْجِنْرَالِof the General
The Opinion of the General
كَانَتِwasالْأَرْضُthe landالْخَلَاءُthe wildernessتُحِيطُsurroundingبِالْجُنُودِthe soldiers،,
The wilderness was surrounding the soldiers,
وَمِنْand fromبَعِيدٍafarتَعَالَتِrose upالْعَدِيدُmanyمِنَofالْأَصْوَاتِthe voices،,
and from afar many voices rose up,
لَكِنَّbutالْهُدُوءَthe calmnessعَمَّfilledذَلِكَthatالْجُزْءَpartمِنَofالْحَقْلِthe field..
but that calmness filled that part of the field.
شَعَرُواThey feltبِالْحُرِّيَّةِfreedom،,وَتَنَهَّدُواand they sighedتَنْهِيدَةَa sighارْتِيَاحٍof comfort،,
They felt freedom, and they sighed a sigh of comfort,
وَتَجَمَّعُواand they gatheredلِلْعَوْدَةِto returnإِلَىtoصَفُوفِهِمْtheir ranksحَيْثُwhereيُخَيِّمُis encampedبَقِيَّةُthe remainderالْجَيْشِof the army..
and they gathered to return to their ranks where the remainder of the army is encamped.
فِيInهَذَاthisالْجُزْءِpartالْأَخِيرِlastمِنْofرِحْلَتِهِمْtheir journey،,
In this last part of their journey,
بَدَأَتْbeganتَبْدُوto appearعَلَىonالرِّجَالِthe menانْفِعَالَاتٌreactionsغَرِيبَةٌstrange؛;
strange reactions began to appear on the men;
كَانُواthey wereيَسِيرُونَwalkingفِيinعَجَلَةٍhurryوَقَلَقٍand anxiety،,
they were walking in hurry and anxiety,
وَبَعْضُand someالْجُنُودِof the soldiersالَّذِينَwhoلَمْdid notيُظْهِرُواshowشُعُورًاfeelingsمُحَدَّدًاdefiniteفِيamidstخِضَمِّthe heatالْقِتَالِof battle،,
and some of the soldiers who did not show definite feelings amidst the heat of battle,
لَمْwere notيَسْتَطِيعُواableالْآنَnowإِخْفَاءَto hideشُعُورِهِمْtheir feelingsبِالْقَلَقِof anxiety..
were not able now to hide their feelings of anxiety.
رُبَّمَاPerhapsكَانُواthey wereيَخْشَوْنَfearingإِطْلَاقَthe firingالنِّيرَانِof shotsعَلَيْهِمُupon themالْآنَnowبَعْدَafterأَنِthatانْتَهَتِendedالْمَعْرَكَةُthe battleالرَّئِيسِيَّةُmain،,
Perhaps they were fearing the firing of shots upon them now after the main battle ended,
وَأَصْبَحُواand they becameقَابَwithin a spanقَوْسَيْنِof two bowsأَوْorأَدْنَىcloserمِنَthanالْأَمَانِsafety..
and they became within a span of two bows or closer than safety.
حِينَWhenاقْتَرَبَapproachedهِنْرِيHenryوَأَصْدِقَاؤُهُand his friendsمِنْthe ranksصُفُوفِofالْجَيْشِthe army،,
When Henry and his friends approached the ranks of the army,
سَخِرَmockedمِنْهُمْthemبَعْضُsomeالْجُنُودِof the soldiersفِيinكَتِيبَةٍbattalionأُخْرَىanotherأَثْنَاءَduringمُرُورِهِمْtheir passingبِهِمْby them..
some soldiers in another battalion mocked them during their passing by them.
صَاحَShoutedأَحَدُهُمْone of them،,أَيْنَwhereكُنْتُمْwere you?؟?
One of them shouted, "Where were you?"
وَقَالَAnd saidآخَرُanother،,لِمَاذَاwhyلَمْdid you notتَمْكُثُواstayهُنَاكَthere?؟?
And another said, "Why did you not stay there?"
وَقَالَAnd saidثَالِثٌa third،,تَعُودُونَare you returningلِلْبَيْتِto the houseالْآنَnowأَيُّهَاOالصِّغَارُyoung ones?؟?
And a third said, "Are you returning to the house now, O young ones?"
لَمْdid notيَرُدَّreplyأَحَدٌanyoneعَلَيْهِمْto themبِاسْتِثْنَاءِexceptجُنْدِيٍّa soldierوَاحِدٍoneتَحَدَّاهُمْwho challenged themلِلشِّجَارِto fightبِالْأَيْدِيwith hands،,
No one replied to them except for one soldier who challenged them to fight with hands,
لَكِنَّbutالْمُلَازِمَthe lieutenantحَالَpreventedدُونَthatذَلِكَfrom happening..
but the lieutenant prevented that from happening.
غَضِبَWas angeredهِنْرِيHenryمِنْbyتِلْكَthoseالتَّعْلِيقَاتِcomments،,
Henry was angered by those comments,
وَرَأَىand he sawأَنَّthatكَثِيرِينَmanyفِيinكَتِيبَتِهِhis battalionكَانُواwereيَسِيرُونَwalkingفِيwithتَثَاقُلٍheavinessمُفَاجِئٍsudden،,
and he saw that many in his battalion were walking with sudden heaviness,
وَكَأَنَّهُمْas if theyيَشْعُرُونَwere feelingبِالذَّنْبِguilty..
as if they were feeling guilty.
حِينَWhenوَصَلَarrivedالْجُنُودُthe soldiersإِلَىatمَوْقِعِهِمُtheir locationالْقَدِيمِold،,
When the soldiers arrived at their old location,
اسْتَدَارُواthey turnedوَأَلْقَوْاand castنَظْرَةًa glanceعَلَىatالْأَرْضِthe landالَّتِيwhereدَارَtook placeفِيهَاin itالْقِتَالُthe fighting..
they turned and cast a glance at the land where the fighting took place.
شَعَرَFeltهِنْرِيHenryبِالدَّهْشَةِamazement؛;فَالْمِسَاحَةُfor the areaكَانَتْwasصَغِيرَةًsmallلِلْغَايَةِvery..
Henry felt amazement; the area was very small.
تَعَجَّبَWonderedهِنْرِيHenryمِنْatوُقُوعِthe occurrenceكُلِّof allتِلْكَthoseالْأَحْدَاثِeventsعَلَىonمِسَاحَةٍan areaصَغِيرَةٍsmallكَهَذِهِlike this،,
Henry wondered at the occurrence of all those events on such a small area as this,
وَبَدَأَand beganيَشْعُرُto feelبِالْفَخْرِprideعَنْregardingأَدَائِهِhis performanceفِيinتِلْكَthatالْمَعْرَكَةِbattleالْأَخِيرَةِfinal..
and began to feel pride regarding his performance in that final battle.
أَثْنَاءَDuringاسْتِرَاحَةِthe restالْجُنُودِof the soldiers،,جَاءَcameالضَّابِطُthe officerالَّذِيwhoكَانَhadقَدْindeedأَطْلَقَunleashedعَلَيْهِمُupon themرَاكِبِيthe ridersالْبِغَالِof the mulesعَلَىonجَوَادِهِhis horse..
During the rest of the soldiers, the officer who had indeed unleashed upon them the riders of the mules on his horse came.
كَانَHe wasقَدْindeedفَقَدَlostقُبَّعَتَهُhis cap،,وَتَفَرَّقَand scattered wasشَعْرُهُhis hairفِيinغَيْرِwithoutنِظَامٍorder..
He had indeed lost his cap, and his hair was scattered without order.
كَانَWasوَجْهُهُhis faceمُتَجَهِّمًاfrowningمِنْwithشِدَّةِthe intensityالْغَضَبِof anger،,
His face was frowning with the intensity of anger,
وَبَدَأَand he beganعَلَىatالْفَوْرِonceيَصِيحُyellingفِيatالْجُنُودِthe soldiers..
and he began at once yelling at the soldiers.
صَرَخَHe shoutedفِيهِمْat them،,مَاwhatهَذَاis thisالَّذِيthatفَعَلْتُمُوهُyou have done?؟?
He shouted at them, "What is this that you have done?"
تَوَقَّفْتُمْYou stoppedوَأَنْتُمْwhile you areعَلَىatبُعْدِa distance ofمِائَةِone hundredقَدَمٍfeetمِنْfromتَحْقِيقِachievingانْتِصَارٍa victoryسَاحِقٍcrushing..
You stopped while you are at a distance of one hundred feet from achieving a crushing victory.
لَوْIfكُنْتُمْyouقَدْhadتَقَدَّمْتُمْadvancedمِائَةَa hundredقَدَمٍfeetفَقَطْonly،,لَكَانَit would have beenهُجُومُكُمْyour attackسَاحِقًاdevastating..
If you had advanced a hundred feet only, your attack would have been devastating.
الْتَفَتَTurnedالْجُنُودُthe soldiersإِلَىtoقَائِدِهِمُtheir leaderالَّذِيwhoكَانَwasعَلَىonوَشْكِthe vergeالرَّدِّof responding..
The soldiers turned to their leader who was on the verge of responding.
بَدَاIt seemedوَكَأَنَّas thoughالضَّابِطَthe officerأَهَانَهُhad insulted him،,لَكِنَّbutأُسْلُوبَهُhis mannerتَغَيَّرَchangedعَلَىatالْفَوْرِonce،,وَهَزَّand he shruggedكَتِيفَيْهِhis shoulders..
It seemed as though the officer had insulted him, but his manner changed at once, and he shrugged his shoulders.
