This Hadith is circulated among these scholars the Imams; they do not deny it. And these used to deny anyone who deviated from the Sunnah from the Kharijites, the Mu'tazilites, the Murji'ah, and the Jahmites.
وَكَانَAnd AhmadأَحْمَدُAhmadابْنَibnحَنْبَلٍHanbalيَقُولُ:would say:"أَحَادِيثُ"The Hadithsحَمَادِof HamadابْنَibnسَلَمَةَSalamahهِيَareالشَّوْكَاتُthe thornsفِيinحُلُوقِthe throatsالْمُبْتَدِعَةِ"of the innovators."
And Ahmad ibn Hanbal would say: "The Hadiths of Hamad ibn Salamah are the thorns in the throats of the innovators."
فَهَؤُلَاءِSo theseمِنْare fromأَعْظَمِthe greatestأَعْلَامِsignsالسُّنَّةِof the Sunnahالَّذِينَwhoيُنْكِرُونَdenyمِنَfromالْبِدَعِinnovationsمَاwhatهُوَisدُونَless thanهَذَاthisلَوْifكَانَit wasهَذَاthisالْقَوْلُstatementعِندَهُمْamong themمِنْofالْبِدَعِinnovationsالْمُخَالِفَةِthat contradictلِلْكِتَابِthe Bookوَالسُّنَّةِ،and the Sunnah,وَالإِجْمَاعِ،and the consensus,كَمَاasيَظُنُّهُsome thinkطَائِفَةٌa groupمِنَofالنَّاسِ.people.
So these are from the greatest signs of the Sunnah who deny innovations that are less than this, if this statement among them was of innovations that contradict the Book, the Sunnah, and the consensus, as some people think.

And Abd ibn Hamid mentioned this in the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: {They will remain in it for ages.”}
لِيُبَيِّنَTo clarifyقَوْلَthe sayingمَنْofقَالَ:who said:الأَحْقَابَthe agesلَهَاfor themأَمَدٌa termيَنْفَذُ،that ends,لَيْسَتْis notكَالرِّزْقِlike the provisionالَّذِيwhichمَا لَهُhasمِنَofنَفَاذٍ،an end,وَلَاand notرَيْبٌit is certainأَنَّهُthat itمِنْwhoقَالَsaidهَذَاthisالْقَوْلُ،statement,قَوْلُthe sayingعُمَرَ،of Umar,وَمَنْand whoeverنَقَلَهُtransmitted itعَنْهُ،from him,إِنَّمَاthey intendedأَرَادُواto indicateبِذَاكَwith thatجِنْسَthe categoryأَهْلِof the peopleالنَّارِof the Fireالَّذِينَwho areهُمْtheyأَهْلُهَا.its inhabitants.
To clarify the saying of those who said: the ages have a determined end, it is not like the provision which has no end, and surely those who said this statement, the statement of Umar, and whoever transmitted it from him, they intended with that the category of the people of the Fire who are its inhabitants.
فَأَمَّاBut as forقَوْمٌa groupأُصِيبُواwho were struckبِذُنُوبٍ،with sins,فَأُولَـٰئِكَthoseقَدْhaveعَلِمَknownهَؤُلَاءِ،these,وَغَيْرَهُمْ،and others,بِخُرُوجِهِمof their exitمِنْهُ،from it,وَأَنَّهُمْand that theyلَاdo notيَلْبَثُونَremainفِيَّهَاin itقَدْرَfor the amountرَمْلٍof sandعَالِجٍ،that moves,وَلَاnorقَرِيبًاcloseمِنْtoذَٰلِكَ.that.
But as for a group who were struck with sins, those have known these and others, of their exit from it, and that they do not remain in it for the amount of moving sand, nor close to that.

And Al-Hasan used to narrate the Hadith of intercession in the people of Tawheed, and he had mentioned it.
