The period one: Seventy thousand years, each day of those days is like a thousand years of what you count (1).

And about Hisham, he reported from Al-Hassan who said: "The periods, no one knows what they are? But the period one: Seventy thousand years, today of it is like a thousand years of what you count (2).

وَقَوْلُهُAnd His saying::اللَّهُGodأَعْلَمُknowsمَاwhatالأَحْقَابَthe periods،,وَلَاand notيَدْرِيknowsمَاwhatهِيَ؟it is?يَقْتَضِيimpliesأَنتَthatلَهَاit hasعَدَدًاa numberاللَّهُGodأَعْلَمُknows،,وَلَوْand ifكَانَتْit wereلَاnoعَدَدٌnumberلَهَاfor itلَعَلِمَeveryone would knowكُلُّeveryoneأَحَدٌanyoneأَنَّهَاthat itلَاnoعَدَدٌnumber"١٦/ب""16/B"لَهَاfor it

And His saying: God knows what the periods are, and no one knows what they are? It implies that they have a number, God knows, and if they had no number, everyone would know that it has no number "16/B".

وَيُؤَيِّدُAnd it supportsمَاwhatنَقَلَهُwas reportedالْحَسَنُfrom Al-Hassan,,عَنْfromعُمَرَOmarابْنِson ofالْخَطَّابِAl-Khattabكَمَاasتَقَدَّمَpreviously(٣)(3)

And it supports what was reported from Al-Hassan, from Omar ibn Al-Khattab as previously mentioned (3),

قَوْلُthe sayingالْحَسَنِof Al-Hassan:: "لَيْسَ"There is noفِيهَاin itعَدَدٌnumberإِلَّاexceptالْخُلْدَfor eternity"حَقٌّis trueأَيْضًاalso,فَإِنَّهُمْfor theyخَالِدُونَare eternalنin it,لَاdo notيَخْرُجُونَleaveمِنْهَاfrom itمَاas long asدَامَتْit remainsبَاقِيَةًremaining,فَأَقْوَالُso the sayingsالْحَسَنِof Al-Hassanتُصَدِّقُconfirmبَعْضَهَاsome of itبَعْضًاeach other.

The saying of Al-Hassan: "There is no number in it except for eternity" is true, for they are eternal in it, they do not leave it as long as it remains, so the sayings of Al-Hassan confirm each other.

وَأَمَّاAnd as forخُلْدُهُمْtheir eternityفِيinالنَّارِthe fireفَهُوَit isحَقٌّtrueكَمَاasأَخْبَرَinformedاللَّهُGod.وَعَنْAnd aboutالسُّدِّيAl-Suddi::{لَابِثِينَ{They are abidingفِيهَاin itأَحْقَابًا}for periods}"قَالَhe said: "سَبْعُمِئَةٍSeven hundredحِقْبَةٍperiods,كُلَّeachحِقْبَةٍperiodسَبْعُونَSeventyسَنَةًyears,كُلَّeachسَنَةٍyearثَلاَثُمِئَةٍthree hundredوَسِتُّونَand sixtyيَوْمًاdays,كُلَّeachيَوْمٍdayكَأَلْفِlike a thousandسَنَةٍyearsمِمَّاof whatتَعُدُّونَyou count(٤)(4).

And as for their eternity in the fire, it is true as God has informed. And about Al-Suddi: {They are abiding in it for periods} he said: "Seven hundred periods, each period is seventy years, each year is three hundred and sixty days, each day is like a thousand years of what you count (4).

وَعَنْAnd aboutعَبْدِ اللَّهِAbdullahابْنِson ofعَمْرٍوAmrقَالَhe said: "الْحَقَبَThe period: أَرْبَعُونَFortyسَنَةًyears."(٥)(5)

And about Abdullah ibn Amr, he said: "The period: Forty years." (5)

وَقَدْAnd thereتَنَازَعَwas a disputeالنَّاسُamong peopleفِيaboutالأَحْقَابِthe periods,هَلْare theyهِيَlimited?مُقَدَّرَةٌdetermined?مَحْدُودَةٌ؟limited?عَلَىOnقَوْلَيْنِtwo sayings:فَعَلَىSo onقَوْلِthe sayingالسُّدِّيof Al-Suddiوَغَيْرِهِand others:هِيَthey areمَحْدُودَةٌ،limited,مُقَدَّرَةٌ،determined,وَهُوَand it isقَوْلُthe sayingالزُّجَّاجِof Al-Zujaj

And there was a dispute among the people about the periods, are they limited? On two sayings: So on the saying of Al-Suddi and others: they are limited, determined, and it is the saying of Al-Zujaj.

لَكِنَّButقَالَhe saidالزُّجَّاجُAl-Zujaj:"الْمَعْنَى"The meaningأَنَّهُمْthat theyيَلْبَثُونَremainفِيَهَاin itأَحْقَابًا،for periods,لَاnoيَذُوقُونَthey tasteفِيهَاin itبَرْدًاcoolnessوَلَاand notشَرَابًاdrink."

But Al-Zujaj said: "The meaning is that they remain in it for periods, not tasting in it coolness or drink."
