وَحَدِيثًا،And recently,بَلْratherإِلَىtoالسَّاعَةِ،the hour,, لَمْ, notأَعْلَمْI knowأَحَدًاanyoneمِنَfromالصَّحَابَةِ،the companions,قَالَ:said:إِنَّهَاthat itلَاdoes notتَفْنَى،cease to exist,وَإِنَّمَاbut ratherالْمَنْقُولُwhat is reportedعَنْهُمْfrom themضِدُّagainstذَلِكَ،that,وَلَكِنَّbutالتَّابِعُونَthe followersنَقَلُواtransmittedعَنْهُمْ،from them,هَذَاthisوَهَذَا.and this.
And recently, I still do not know of anyone from the companions who said that it does not cease to exist, rather what is reported from them contradicts that, but the followers transmitted this and that.
وَأَمَّاAs forالْقُرْآنُ،the Qur'an,فَالَّذِيthe thing thatدَلَّindicatesعَلَيْهِon itوَلَيْسَand there is notفِيinالْقُرْآنِthe Qur'anمَاwhatيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىthatأَنَّهَاitلَاdoes notتَفْنَى،cease to exist,بَلْbutالَّذِيthat whichيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَيْهِon itظَاهِرُthe apparentالْقُرْآنِ،Qur'an,, أَنَّهُمْ, that theyخَالِدُونَare eternalفِيهَاin itأَبَدًا،forever,كَمَاasأَخْبَرَinformedاللَّهُAllah- عَزَّ وَجَلَّ -- the Exalted -(١)(1)فِيinغَيْرِother thanمَوْضِعٍ،place,وَأَخْبَرَand informedأَنَّهُمْthat theyيَطْلُبُونَask forالْمَوْتَdeath(٢), (2)،, وَالخُرُوجَand exitمِنْهَاfrom it(٣)(3)وَيَطْلُبُونَand they ask forتَخْفِيفَreliefالْعَذَابِ،the punishment(٤), (4)
As for the Qur'an, the thing that indicates it is that there is nothing in the Qur'an that indicates that it does not cease to exist, but rather the apparent indication of the Qur'an is that they are eternal in it forever, as Allah informed - the Exalted - in other places, and He informed that they ask for death, (2), and exit from it (3) and they ask for relief from the punishment (4).
فَلَاSo they do notيُجَابُونَ:respond:لَاneitherإِلَىtoهَذَاthisوَلَاnorعَلَىonهَذَا،this,وَأَخْبَرَand informedأَنَّهُمْthat theyمَاكِثُونَare abidingفِيهَاin it(٥)،(5),وَأَخْبَرَand informedأَنَّهُمْthat they{لَا{notيُقْضَىbe judgedعَلَيْهِمْupon themفَيَمُوتُواto dieوَلَاand notيُخَفَّفُbe alleviatedعَنْهُمْfrom themمِنْofعَذَابِهَا}its punishment}.(٦)(6)
So they do not respond: neither to this nor to that, and He informed that they are abiding in it (5), and He informed that they {not be judged upon them to die, and not be alleviated from them of its punishment} (6).
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَى:the Exalted:{وَهُمْ{And theyيَصْطَرِخُونَcry outفِيهَا}in it}(٧)(7),{رَبَّنَا{Our Lord,أَخْرِجْنَاtake us outمِنْهَاfrom itفَإِنْso ifعُدْنَاwe returnفَإِنَّاthen surely weظَالِمُونَare wrongdoers.قَالَHe saidاخْسَأُواBe cursed!فِيهَاin itوَلَاand do notتُكَلِّمُونِ}speak to me}.(٨)(8)
And He said the Exalted: {And they cry out in it} (7), {Our Lord, take us out from it. So if we return, then surely we are wrongdoers. He said, 'Be cursed in it and do not speak to me.'} (8).
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَى:the Exalted:{إِنَّ{Indeed,الْمُجْرِمِينَthe criminalsفِيinعَذَابِthe punishment ofجَهَنَّمَHellخَالِدُونَare eternal.لَاnotيُفَتَّرُbe easedعَنْهُمْfrom themوَهُمْand theyفِيَهِin itمُبْلِسُونَare despaired.وَمَاAnd notظَلَمْنَاهُمْwe wronged themوَلَكِنْbutكَانُواthey wereهُمُtheالظَّالِمِينَwrongdoers.وَنَادَوْاAnd they calledيَاOمَالِكُMalik,لِيَقْضِto make a judgmentعَلَيْنَاupon usرَبُّكَyour Lord.قَالَHe saidإِنَّكُمْIndeed you areمَاكِثُونَabiding.لَقَدْIndeedجِئْنَاكُمْwe have come to youبِالْحَقِّwith the truthوَلَكِنَّbutأَكْثَرَكُمْmost of youلِلْحَقِّto the truthكَارِهُونَ}are averse to it.}(٩)(9)
And He said the Exalted: {Indeed, the criminals in the punishment of Hell are eternal. They are not eased from them, and they are despaired in it. And we did not wrong them, but they were the wrongdoers. And they called, 'O Malik, make a judgment upon us, your Lord.' He said, 'Indeed you are abiding. Indeed we have come to you with the truth, but most of you are averse to it.'} (9).
