وَماAnd notكَادَتْShe almost«أُمُّMother ofدِرْصٍ»DirseتُتِمُّCompletesآخِرَLastكَلِمَةٍWordفِيInهَذاThisالنَّشِيدِ،Song,حَتَّىUntilامْتَلأَFilledقَلْبُهاHer heartذُعْرًا.With terror.

And she almost completed the last word in this song, until her heart was filled with terror.

فَوَقَفَتِSo she stoodالْمِسْكِينَةُthe poor womanعَنِfromالْكَلامِ،speaking,وَقَفَّand her hairشَعْرُهاstood upمِنْfromفَرْطِextremeالرُّعْبِ،fear,وَجَحَظَتْand her eyes bulged,عَيْناها،her eyes,وَصاحَتْ،and she screamed,وَهِيَand sheتَرْتَجِفُ:was trembling:«رَبَّاهُ!"Oh God!ماذاWhatأَرْىَ؟do I see?"

So the poor woman stood from speaking, her hair stood up from extreme fear, her eyes bulged, and she screamed while trembling: "Oh God! What do I see?"

أَدْرِكِينِيCatch meياOأُمَّاهُMotherإِنَّهُIndeed, it isالْقِطُّthe catفَماSo whatحِيلَتِيis my wayفِيinدَفْعِهِpushing him?

Catch me, O Mother! Indeed, it is the cat. So what is my way in pushing him?

وَأَقْبَلَand approachedعَلَيْهاto itالْقِطُّthe catيُطارِدُهاis chasing itوَandيُنْشِدُis singingتائِهًاa wanderingمَزْهُوًّاproudly

And the cat approached it, chasing it, and singing proudly a wandering tune:

أَيُّهاOhالْمَغْرُورُdeceived one::أَهْلًاwelcome

Oh deceived one: welcome

بِكَwith youإِذْwhenجِئْتَyou cameوandسَهْلَاeasy

With you when you came easy.

قَدْindeedتَمَنَّيْتَyou wishedلِقائِيto meet me

Indeed, you wished to meet me.

ضَلَّةًshadowمِنْكَ،from you,وَجَهْلاand ignorance

A shadow from you, and ignorance

أَنْتَYouلِيfor meأَفْخَرُproudestزادٍprovisions

You are my proudest provisions

أَنْتَYouلِيfor meأَشْهَىthe most deliciousطَعامْfood

You are the most delicious food for me.

فَتَأَهَّبْGet readyلِلِقائِيfor my meeting

So get ready for my meeting

واغْنَمِAnd take advantage ofالْمَوْتَthe deathالزُّؤامْ.the poisonous

And take advantage of the poisonous death.

وَظَلَّتْAnd remained«أُمُّ دِرْصٍ»‘Um Durṣ’تَجْرِيrunningفِيinأَرْجاءِthe corners ofالْمَطْبَخِ،the kitchen,عَلَىwithoutغَيْرِguidance,والْقِطُّand the catيُطارِدُهاis chasing herوَandيَسُدُّblockingعَلَيْهَاher way;وَهِيَand sheتُغَوِّثُ،is crying out,طالِبَةًseekingالنَّجْدَةَ،help,فَلاbut noيُغِيثُهَاone helps her...

And ‘Um Durṣ’ remained running in the corners of the kitchen, without guidance, and the cat was chasing her and blocking her ways; and she was crying out, seeking help, but no one helps her.

وَكانَتْAnd was«أُمُّ«Mother ofدِرْصٍ»Dirs»خَفِيفَةَlightالْحَرَكَةِ،movement,سَرِيعَةَrapid,الْقَفْزِ،jumping,فَأَسْرَعَتْso she hastenedإِلَىtoجُحْرِها،her burrow,حَتَّىuntilإِذاwhenدانَتْهُ،she reached it,وَلَمْand there was notيَبْقَremainedعَلَىonبُلُوغِهِher reachingإِلاexceptقَفْزَتانِ،two jumps,أَدْرَكَcaught«أَبُو«Abuخَداشٍ»Khadash»فَوَثَبَand leaptعَلَيْهَاon her,وَثْبَةًa leapواحِدَةً،one,فَإِذاso whenهِيَsheبَيْنَbetweenمَخالِبِهِ.his claws.

And she was the 'Mother of Dirs', light in movement, quick in jumping, so she hastened to her burrow, until when she reached it, and there remained upon her reaching only two jumps, Abu Khadash caught her, and leapt upon her in one leap, and there she was between his claws.

وَهَكَذاAnd thus

And thus was the state without what you want, and its hope turned to despair, and it became between the jaws of death, after it was closer to salvation; so there was no way but to resume the struggle.

عاقِبَةُconsequenceالْغُرُورِdeception

The consequence of deception

فانْسَلَّتْslippedمِنْfromبَيْنِbetweenأَرْجُلِlegsعَدُوِّهاher enemyاللَّدُودِbitterوَأَسْرَعَتْand she hurriedتَجْرِيrunningبِكُلِّwith allسُرْعَتِهاher speedحَتَّىuntilوَجَدَتْshe foundمِكْنَسَةًa broomفِيinزاوِيَةِthe cornerالْمَطْبَخِthe kitchenفاخْتَبَأَتْand she hidخَلْفَهاbehind itوَهِيَand sheتُعَلِّلُrationalizingنَفْسَهاherselfبِكاذِباتِwith untruthsالأَمْانِيِّof wishesوَتَظُنُّand she believesأَنَّthatأَباAbuخَداشٍKhadashلَنْwill notيَراهاsee her

She slipped between her bitter enemy's legs, and hurried running with all her speed, until she found a broom in the corner of the kitchen, and she hid behind it, rationalizing herself with untruths of wishes, and thinks that 'Abu Khadash' will not see her.

وَتَقُولُAnd saysلِنَفْسِهاto herselfنادِمَةًregretfulمَحْزُونَةًsadلَيْتَنِيI wishأَصْغَيْتُI had listenedإِلَىtoنُصْحِكِyour adviceياOأُمَّاهُmy motherإِذَنْthenلَنَجَوْتُI would have been savedمِنَfromالْخَطَرِdangerالدَّاهِمِthe overwhelmingوَلَكِنَّbutغُرُورِيmy prideأَوْرَدَنِيled meمَوارِدَto places ofالْهَلاكِdestructionوَلَئِنْAnd ifنَجَوْتُI am savedفِيinهَذِهِthisالْمَرَّةِtimeلَمْI did notأُخالِفْcontradictلَكِto youقَوْلًاa statementبَعْدَafterالْيَوْمِthe day

And she says to herself regretfully and sadly: "I wish I had listened to your advice, O my mother! Then I would have been saved from the overwhelming danger, but my pride led me to places of destruction... And even if I am saved this time, I will not contradict you in anything after today!"

وَلَكِنَّButآمالَhopes«أُمِّ دِرْصٍ»"Um Diris"تَبَدَّدَتْ،have dissipated,وَذَهَبَتْand have goneأَدْراجَto the ranksالرِّياحِ،of the winds,فَقَدْSo indeedرَبَضَhas settled«أُبُو خَداشٍ»"Abu Khadash"أَمامَin front ofالْمِكْنَسَةِ،the broom,وَظَلَّAnd he remainedيَتَرَقَّبُwaitingفَرِيسَتَهُ،for his prey,بِفارِغِWith leisure,الصَّبْرِ،of patience,وَهُوَand heيَتَحَفَّزُis preparingلِلْفَتْكِto attackبِها،her,والانْقِضاضِand to pounceعَلَيْهَا،on her,وَقَدْand indeedسالَhe has drooledلُعابُهُhis salivaشَوْقًاin yearningإِلَىforازْدرادِها.to consume her.

But the hopes of 'Um Diris' have dissipated and have gone to the ranks of the winds, so indeed 'Abu Khadash' has settled in front of the broom and remained waiting for his prey, with leisure of patience, and he is preparing to attack her, and to pounce on her, and indeed he has drooled in yearning to consume her.

وَظَلَّAnd he keptيُمِرُّpassingلِسانَهُhis tongueعَلَىoverشَفَتَيْهِhis lipsمِرارًاrepeatedly،,وَهُوand heفَرْحانُhappyبِهَذاwith thisالْفَطُورِbreakfastالشَّهِيِّdeliciousالْوَشِيكِsoon!!

And he kept passing his tongue over his lips repeatedly, and he is happy with this delicious breakfast soon!
