الْعَدُوُّ،enemy,

the enemy,

وَلَوْevenلَمْifيَكُنْwas notهَذَاthisالشَّخْصُpersonالْمَوْصُوفُdescribedقَدْhasقَالَsaidشَيْئًاanythingمِنْofذَلِكَthat

even if this described person has not said any of that

أَوْorأَتَىcommittedبِعَمَلٍan actionمِنْfromهَذِهِtheseالْأَعْمَالِ.actions.

or committed an action from these actions.

أَوْOrيَقُولُونَ:they say:

Or they say:

فُلَانٌSo-and-soأَلْجَمَنِيbridled meأَوْorأَخْرَسَsilencedلِسَانِيmy tongueأَوْorنَزَعَsnatchedاللُّقْمَةَthe morselمِنْfromفَمِيmy mouth

So-and-so bridled me, or silenced my tongue, or snatched the morsel from my mouth,

وَأَمْثَالَand the likes ofهَذِهِtheseالتَّعْبِيرَاتِexpressionsالَّتِيwhichكُلُّهَاall of themمِنْare fromقَبِيلِthe category ofتَصْوِيرِdepictingالْمَعْنَىthe meaningالْمُرَادِintendedبِالصُّورَةِwith the imageالْمَحْسُوسَةِ.sensory.

and the likes of these expressions which are all from the category of depicting the intended meaning with a sensory image.

[تَعْرِيفُ[Definition ofالتَّعْرِيضِ:]Al-Ta'reed (Allusion):]

[Definition of Al-Ta'reed (Allusion):]

وَأَمَّاAnd as forالتَّعْرِيضُAl-Ta'reedفَإِنَّهُit isذِكْرُmentioningحُكْمٍa rulingعَامٍّgeneralأَوْorمُنْكَرٍdisapproved matter

And as for Al-Ta'reed, it is mentioning a general ruling or a disapproved matter

مَعَalong withالْقَصْدِthe intentionإِلَىofالْإِشَارَةِpointingوَالتَّعْرِيضِand alludingبِحَالِto the state ofشَخْصٍa personخَاصٍّspecificأَوْorالتَّنْبِيهِalertingإِلَىtoشَخْصٍa personمُعَيَّنٍ،designated,

with the intention of pointing and alluding to the state of a specific person or alerting to a designated person,

وَتَرِدُand some ofبَعْضُtheخُصُوصِيَّاتِparticulars ofذَلِكَthatالشَّخْصِpersonفِيinالْكَلَامِ،the speech,

and some particulars of that person appear in the speech,

بَحَيْثُsuch thatتَعْرِفُit is known toالْمُخَاطَبُthe addresseeبِهِtherebyوَتَكْشِفُهُand it reveals itلَهُ،to him,

such that the addressee recognizes it and it is revealed to him,

وَيَنْبَغِيand it is fittingفِيinمِثْلِlikeهَذِهِtheseالْمَوَاضِعِplacesأَنْthatيَكُونَbeقَارِئُreader ofالْقُرْآنِthe Quranالْكَرِيمِthe Nobleمُتَيَقِّظًاvigilantفَطِنًا،perceptive,

and in such places it is fitting that the reader of the Noble Quran be vigilant and perceptive,

وَيَحْتَاجُand he needsإِلَىtoالْقِصَّةِthe storyأَيْضًا.also.

and he also needs the story.

طَرِيقُMethod ofالنَّبِيِّthe Prophet- صَلَّى- peaceاللَّهُbe uponعَلَيْهِhimوَسَلَّمَ -and blessings -فِيinالتَّعْرِيضِ:allusion:

The Method of the Prophet - may peace and blessings be upon him - in Allusion:

وَقَدْAndكَانَused toالنَّبِيُّthe Prophet- صَلَّى- peaceاللَّهُbe uponعَلَيْهِhimوَسَلَّمَ -and blessings -إِذَاwhenأَرَادَhe wantedالتَّعْرِيضَto alludeبِشَخْصٍto a personوَالْإِنْكَارَand disapproveعَلَيْهِof himكَانَhe wouldيَقُولُ:say:

And the Prophet - may peace and blessings be upon him - whenever he wanted to allude to a person and disapprove of him, he would say:

"مَا"Whatبَالُis the matter withأَقْوَامٍpeopleيَفْعَلُونَwho doكَذَاsuch and suchوَكَذَا".and such?"

"What is the matter with people who do such and such?"

مِثَالٌAn exampleلِلتَّعْرِيضِof allusionمِنَfromالْقُرْآنِthe Quranالْكَرِيمِ:the Noble:

An example of allusion from the Noble Quran:

قَالَHe said- تَعَالَى -:- Exalted is He -:{وَمَا{And it is notكَانَbefittingلِمُؤْمِنٍfor a believing manوَلَاnorمُؤْمِنَةٍa believing womanإِذَاwhenقَضَىhas decreedاللَّهُAllahوَرَسُولُهُand His Messengerأَمْرًا}a matter}

He - Exalted is He - said: {And it is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter}
