يَكُونُIt isعِبَارَةًan expressionعَنْofكَلِمَةٍa wordوَاحِدَةٍsingle
It is an expression of a single word
أَوْorعَنْofتَرْكِيبِa combinationكَلِمَتَيْنِ،of two words,
or a combination of two words,
أَوْorأَكْثَرَ.more.
or more.
وَهُمْAnd theyيَتَغَنَّوْنَchantبِهَاwith itكَالْقَصَائِدِ،like poems,
And they chant with it like poems,
وَيَتَمَتَّعُونَand enjoyبِهَا.it.
and enjoy it.
فَالْحَاصِلُSo the conclusion- إِذْنُ -- then -أَنَّis thatلِكُلِّfor everyقَوْمٍpeopleقَانُوناًa lawوَضَوَابِطَand controlsخَاصَّةًspecialلِكَلاَمِهِمُfor their speechالْمَنْظُومِversified
So the conclusion - then - is that for every people there is a law and special controls for their versified speech
مَعَalong withالْقَدْرِthe amountالْمُشْتَرَكِsharedالَّذِيwhichأَلْمَحْنَاwe alludedإِلَيْهِ.to it.
along with the shared amount which we alluded to.
[مُتْعَةُ[The enjoymentالنَّاسِof peopleبِالأَصْوَاتِby voicesالْمُطْرِبَةِmelodiousوَالأَنْغَامِand tunesالْحُلْوَةِ:]sweet:]
[The enjoyment of people by melodious voices and sweet tunes:]
وَعَلَىAnd uponهَذَاthisتَجِدُyou findجَمِيعَallأَصْنَافِsortsالنَّاسِof peopleوَشُعُوبِهِمْand their nations
And upon this you find all sorts of people and their nations
يَجِدُونَfindingمُتْعَةًenjoymentوَلَذَّةًand pleasureغَرِيبَةًstrangeفِيinالأَصْوَاتِthe voicesوَالأَلْحَانِ،and melodies,
finding strange enjoyment and pleasure in voices and melodies,
الْمُطْرِبَةِmelodiousالْجَمِيلَةِ،beautiful,وَالنَّغَمَاتِand tunesالْمُوسِيقِيَّةِmusicalالْفَاتِنَةِ،captivating,
the melodious beautiful, and captivating musical tunes,
لاnoاخْتِلاَفَdisagreementبَيْنَهُمْamong themفِيinذَلِكَ،that,
no disagreement among them in that,
إِلاَّexceptأَنَّthatطُرُقَwaysتَنْغِيمِهِمْof their intonationوَأَسَالِيبَand methodsتَلْحِينِهِمْ،of their composition,
except that the ways of their intonation, the methods of their composition,
وَقَوَاعِدَand rulesالْغِنَاءِof singingعِنْدَهُمْamong themتَخْتَلِفُdifferفِيمَاamongبَيْنَهُمْ.themselves.
and the rules of singing among them differ among themselves.
أَوْزَانُMetersالْيُونَانِيِّينَof the Greeksلِلأَلْحَانِ:for melodies:

وَقَدْAnd indeedوَضَعَlaid downالْيُونَانِيُّونَthe Greeksعَدَداًa numberمِنَofالأَوْزَانِmetersلِهَذِهِfor theseالأَلْحَانِmelodies
And indeed the Greeks laid down a number of meters for these melodies
وَيُسَمُّونَهَاand they call them"الْمَقَامَاتِ""Al-Maqamat"وَقَدْand indeedاسْتَنْبَطُواthey derivedمِنَfromالْمَقَامَاتِthe maqamatأَصْوَاتاً،sounds,
and they call them "Al-Maqamat" and they derived from the maqamat sounds,
وَأَقْسَاماًand sectionsوَاسْتَخْرَجُواand extractedنَغَمَاتٍtunesوَأَلْحاناًand melodies
and sections and extracted tunes and melodies
جَعَلُوهَاthey made itفَنّاًan artمَبْسُوطاًexpandedمَفَصَّلاًdetailedمُسْتَقِلاً،independent,مَعَalong withضَبْطِprecision ofالْقَوَاعِدِthe rulesوَالأُصُولِ.and principles.
they made it an expanded, detailed, independent art, along with the precision of rules and principles.
أَوْزَانُMetersالْهُنُودِof the Indiansوَأَلْحَانُهُمْ:and their melodies:
Meters of the Indians and their melodies:
كَذَلِكَLikewiseوَضَعَlaid downالْهُنُودُthe Indiansسِتَّةَsixأَلْحَانٍ،melodies,
Likewise the Indians laid down six melodies,
ثُمَّthenاسْتَخْرَجُواthey extractedمِنْهَاfrom themنَغَمَاتٍtunesوَتَلْحِينَاتٍand compositionsمُتَعَدِّدَةً،multiple,
then they extracted from them multiple tunes and compositions,
وَقَدْAnd indeedرَأَيْنَاwe sawأَهْلَthe peopleالرِّيفِof the countrysideمِنْهُمُamong themالَّذِينَwhoلاdo notيَعْرِفُونَknowهَذَيْنِthese twoالْمِصْطَلَحَيْنِ،terms,
And indeed we saw the people of the countryside among them who do not know these two terms,
اخْتَرَعُواthey inventedلَهُمْfor themselvesتَرْكِيباًa combinationخَاصّاًspecialوَلَحْناًand a melodyخَاصّاًspecialحَسَبَaccording toسَلِيقَتِهِمُtheir instinctالْفِطْرِيَّةِinnateوَذَوْقِهِمُand their tasteالْفَنِّيِّ،artistic,
they invented for themselves a special combination and a special melody according to their innate instinct and artistic taste,
وَوَضَعُواand they placedلأَنْفُسِهِمْfor themselvesأَوْزاناًmetersمِنْwithoutدُونِwithoutأَنْthatيَضْبُطُواthey controlلَهَاfor itالْقَوَاعِدَthe rulesوَالْكُلِّيَّاتِ،and generalities,وَيَسْتَقْضُواand investigate thoroughly
and they placed for themselves meters without them controlling for it the rules and generalities, and investigating thoroughly
